At cross River State campus assembly 2026 ideas met experience, leadership met purpose, and student voices came together as one.

The Cross River Campus Assembly 2026 was a remarkable gathering of student leaders from across Cross River State, bringing together ideas, experience, leadership and a renewed commitment to the advancement of the student community.

One of the major highlights was the Campus Leadership Training Seminar, which provided an invaluable platform for student leaders to learn from experienced personalities and individuals who have distinguished themselves through service and leadership. The sessions featured insightful contributions from Dr. Henry Egbe Ayuk, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, Pastor Ekpenyong Cobham, Chief Dr. Kingsley Ita Ikpeme, ASP Sunday Etokpah, Dr. John Inaku, Comr. Emmanuel Olayi, Engr Offiong Ikpeme, Dr Victor Ndifon and Dr. Mrs. Abasiofiok Akpabio.

The training reinforced an important message: effective student leadership requires knowledge, integrity, accountability and a genuine commitment to service. It also demonstrated the commitment of the NANS JCC Cross River State to equipping student leaders with the capacity to properly represent their constituents and effectively address the challenges confronting students. Issues bordering management-student disputes, campus security and student substance abuse were discussed in detail.

The Assembly continued with the 14th NANS JCC Cross River State Senate Sitting and the State of the Union Press Conference, providing a platform for SUG Presidents and other student leaders to deliberate on pressing student issues, review the progress and achievements of the Council and other student leaders, and strengthen the collective voice of students across the state.
The points raised at the press conference include students accommodation on campus, transportation and inclusion of students in the governance of the state.

Beyond the activities, the Assembly was a celebration of unity, collaboration and purposeful leadership. NANS JCC Cross River State remains committed to fostering strong relationships among student leaders, supporting responsible representation, and building a united student movement where every leader has the capacity and support to serve effectively.

We wish to express our most sincere gratitude to the administration of her excellency Prof. Francisca Bassey for bringing together union leaders for an epoch making ceremony at the repositioned University of Cross River State.

NANS JCC remains committed to excellence in leadership and promoting the interests of Nigerian students in the state.

CROSS RIVER CAMPUS ASSEMBLY 2026

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council, Cross River State Axis, invites student leaders, stakeholders, and delegates to the Cross River Campus Assembly 2026, holding from August 25th–27th, 2026, at the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Calabar.

The assembly is aimed at strengthening student unity and addressing key issues affecting students across the state.

Key Activities:
- 14th NANS JCC Cross River State Senate Sitting
- Campus Leadership Training Seminar
- State of the Union Press Conference.

These activities will provide opportunities for dialogue, leadership development, policy engagement, and collective decision-making on matters affecting the student community.

The event will feature Prof. Francisca Bassey as Chief Host, Comr. Favour Johobe Ogar as Host, Dr. Afufu Anthony Ogabor as Coordinator, and Comr. Victor Antigha Asuquo as Convener. NANS JCC CRS KICKS AGAINST FORCED REVERSION OF 214 UNICAL LAW STUDENTS

The National Association of Nigerian Students, Joint Campus Council, Cross River State Axis, has rejected the University of Calabar’s directive asking 214 Law students to return to their original departments and restart from Year One.

In a press statement signed by JCC Chairman, Comrade Victor Antigha Asuquo and dated August 10, 2026, NANS said the affected students gained admission into the Faculty of Law through an internal departmental transfer process approved by the university and spent two years there.

The Council described the decision as a “drastic and disproportionate response to an administrative failure” and insisted that students should not be made to suffer for an irregularity they did not cause.

While acknowledging UNICAL’s concerns about institutional risk, NANS urged management to first explore regularisation of the students’ admission with the National Universities Commission, NUC, and the Council of Legal Education before enforcing any reversion.

*NANS is demanding:*
1. Full disclosure of officers who approved the transfers
2. Proof that UNICAL has engaged NUC and the Council of Legal Education
3. Preservation of academic credits and CGPA if reversion is unavoidable
4. Guaranteed priority readmission into Law for affected students
5. Meaningful compensation beyond tuition refunds for lost time and career delay

NANS said it has briefed the national leadership and will escalate the matter if it is not resolved, but remains open to dialogue with the university management.

The statement was copied to the UNICAL Vice Chancellor, Dean of Law, Cross River State Commissioner for Education, and NANS National Leadership.

NANS JCC CRS DIRECTS MASS MOBILISATION OVER ALLEGED ASSAULT ON STUDENTS BY EFCC OPERATIVES

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Cross River State Axis, under the Chairmanship of Comr. Victor Antigha Asuquo, expresses grave concern over reports of the alleged invasion of students' hostels by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in parts of Cross River State, as well as the reported assault on students during the operations.

Particularly disturbing is the reported assault on the Assistant General Secretary of NANS Zone B (South-South) during one of the operations, allegedly carried out without the presentation of a valid search warrant or lawful authorization. Reports of intimidation, panic, and fear among innocent students have also raised serious concerns within the student community.

NANS remains committed to supporting every lawful effort aimed at combating economic and financial crimes. However, such efforts must be carried out within the confines of the law and with full respect for the constitutional rights and dignity of Nigerian students. Students' hostels are places of residence and learning and must never become targets of unlawful harassment or intimidation.

In compliance with the directive of the Coordinator of NANS Zone B (South-South), the leadership of NANS JCC Cross River State Axis has commenced consultations and mobilisation across tertiary institutions in the state ahead of a peaceful demonstration to demand accountability and justice over the reported incidents.

We call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to provide a clear explanation regarding these operations and the circumstances surrounding the alleged assault on the Assistant General Secretary of NANS Zone B. Where any individual is suspected of criminal activity, due process must be followed in accordance with the Constitution and the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The leadership of NANS JCC Cross River State Axis urges all students to remain calm, peaceful, and law-abiding throughout this process. We remain committed to protecting the welfare, dignity, and fundamental rights of every Nigerian student while ensuring that justice is pursued through lawful and constructive engagement.

Together, we shall continue to stand for justice, accountability, and the protection of students' rights.

NANS JCC CROSS RIVER STATE RECEIVES NATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT (SPECIAL DUTIES), OTHER INSTITUTION PRESIDENTS, PAYS COURTESY VISIT TO POLICE COMMAND, OBSERVES COLLEGE OF NURSING SCIENCES CALABAR SUG ELECTION

The leadership of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Joint Campus Council (JCC), Cross River State, on Friday, 3rd July, 2026, received the NANS National Vice President (Special Duties), Comr. Dominic Ernest (Aluta Junior), alongside the Students' Union Government Presidents of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), and the College of Health Sciences and Management Technology (COHSMAT), Calabar. The delegation was led by the Chairman of NANS JCC Cross River State, Comr. Victor Antigha Asuquo, and included the Vice Chairman, Sen. Obassesam Caleb Arikpo, and the NANS Zone B Assistant Secretary General, Sen. Emmanuel Ekpo.

The delegation subsequently paid a courtesy visit to the Cross River State Police Command Headquarters, where they were received by the Deputy Commissioner of Police. Discussions centered on strengthening collaboration between student leaders and the Police in promoting campus security, student welfare, and peaceful coexistence across tertiary institutions in the state.

Thereafter, the Chairman of NANS JCC Cross River State, alongside the Vice Chairman and the NANS Zone B Assistant Secretary General, proceeded to observe the Students' Union Government election at the College of Nursing Sciences (CONS), Calabar. The election was conducted peacefully and transparently, producing Comrade Godwin Ushie as the duly elected SUG President.

NANS JCC CRS PARTICIPATES IN THE 2026 UN DAY ON DRUG ABUSE COMMEMORATION

Today, we highlight the active role of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Joint Campus Council, Cross River State Axis, in the successful commemoration of the *2026 United Nations Day on Drug Abuse*.

As a key stakeholder in the fight against substance abuse, NANS JCC CRS was fully represented through our Chairman, _Comr. Victor Antigha Asuquo_, who served as a *member of the Planning Committee* for the event. His involvement ensured that the voices, concerns, and energy of students were captured in the design and ex*****on of the sensitization rally.

Under his leadership, NANS JCC CRS mobilized students across tertiary institutions in the state to join the road walk from *Efio Ette Roundabout to Millennium Park, 11:11*. The Council’s contribution strengthened the campaign against drug abuse by amplifying the anti-drug message on campuses, educating students on prevention, and encouraging them to be agents of change in their schools, homes, and communities.

NANS JCC CRS remains committed to partnering with government agencies, the *NDLEA*, and other relevant agencies to promote a drug-free, healthy, and productive student population in Cross River State.
