WHICH ADVICE WILL YOU GIVE SOMEONE WHO GRADUATED FROM SCHOOL?
This is the first time I am answering this question. My TEN (10) candid advise to someone who just graduated from institution (whichever institution) are:
1. You are done with the paper type. LOOK FOR A PLACE WHERE YOU CAN PRACTICE WHAT YOU STUDY. If you are not employed look for a place you can go for internship even if it’s twice a week. It will help you acquire more skills and be unbeatable in your field. It will also grow your CV or RESUME. If you are a computer scientist look for a computer cafe. If you are a teacher look for a school. If you are a nurse or medical practitioner look for a nearby hospital. Wherever you are look for your corresponding place to work.
2. START MAKING YOUR CV. Don't wait until result is out or until you have this and that... Just work out your CV. Use the spare time you have to write a professional CV that you can present anywhere without a fear of been rejected. Majority of us ignore this part until we are asked to present our CV then we will begin going up and down trying to make one.
3. Knowledge is significant. If you finish an institution it doesn't mean you are done. It means you are guided to the path of champions and leaders, because at least you can read and write. I ADVICE YOU TO USE YOUR AMPLE TIME AND READ in developing areas like Entrepreneurship, personal growth and development, self discipline, technology and any other beneficial book especially those in your field. Less Brown —a motivational speaker, says if you can read 3 good books in every month you will be among the top 5% in your career. You can download books for free in sites like PDF Drive, Bookboon, z-library etc.
4. FOCUS ON RELIGIOUS KNOWLEDGE AND IBADAH. The first revelation in Islam is ‘Iqra’ that's ‘read’. It didn't specify what you should read. I now say, read both the western (occupational) and Islamic literatures. Find an Islamic teacher and spare at least 5 days in a week to learn more about your religion. However between Magrib and Isha there are Majaalis where books are read daily you can become a permanent member in these places. Read Quran, Hadith, Fiqhu, Tauhid and every Knowledge beneficial in Islam. On the other hand, practice many Ibadah such as Qiyamullail, Salatud Duha, Rawatib, Sawm, Good Mu'amalat and many more.
5. FIND A BUSINESS TO RELY ON. There are many opportunities to earn a living out there. Search for a one you can get involved and do it with a lot of power and passion. Build an International Business reputation. Don't just do a business for a living, do it for a purpose to become world leader in that industry or field you selected. Many people don't understand businesses are what bring wealth easily. In my consultancy services company (NS CONSULTANCY) I can earn 1/6 of the salary I am earning in my place of work monthly in less than 24 hours. So businesses are the way to go!
6. REFLECTS ON YOUR LIFE. Look at your life goals, missions, visions and your life manifesto. Learn the mistakes you have made so far, appreciate the good destinies that happened to you. Moreover, I understand that many of us don't even have drivers for life. For me, I write my own personal goals, mission, vision and manifesto in life since 2009. If you don't have these blueprints in your life you need to get them. Sit and write what you want to do in your life, where you want to be and when you want to be there. Follow through with boldness and discipline in your actions. Here I will advise you to have the habit of writing daily to do task. Write what you want to do each morning and make sure each day you can achieve at least 75% of it.
7. THINK OF FURTHERING YOUR EDUCATION. Don't just finish and remain finished. Think of a professional course that can add value to your certificates. Think of a diploma that can bring tremendous changes in your career. Apply and acquire both the certificate and skill. Many of us don't want to go back to school, notwithstanding that it’s knowledge that build a man not food or money. Look for any certificate that can be useful to you. At most, I will advise you to obtain a certificate and skill in computer science. Because, in the near future you have to present computer literacy certificate for you to be employed —it had even started.
8. HELP YOUR PARENTS. Don't feel you are big enough not to help your parents. They sponsored your education. Even if they didn't, I believe their prayers and well wishes are always with you. They can give all they have for you to be successful. Sit with them, chat with them and help them. They missed you when you are in school. You can take the charge of buying water in your home twice a week. You can take charge of paying your electric bill every month. You can take charge of buying Maggi or salt each week. This are minor things but I assured you if you do them, they will love you more and be happy with you. They will pray for you more and you will be blessed.
9. USE YOUR HANDSET FOR PRODUCTIVE THINGS. Did you know that there are many free online courses you can attend and get certified? Did you know that Social Media can connect you with a network of people that can bring change to your life? Did you know that in YouTube you can learn almost everything today? Did you also know that some companies search for your name in Google to see who you really are? Build good reputations with your phone. Don’t destroy yourself with it. You don't have computer? Your handset is yet another version of computer in your pocket. Use it wisely. Use it in productive things.
10. While you are in school your community missed you. GIVE BACK TO YOUR COMMUNITY. The essence of education is to bring change. When you graduated it means you are now new being different from your old version. So I suggest you give back to your community. Sometimes you don't even have to use money. You only need to use your time and experience (knowledge). You can spare 2 hours of your time to a primary or secondary school near you. You can pick 2 unemployed children you trusted in your community and teach (mentor) them a skill you are perfect at so they can become self reliant. You can do more powerful things if you have open heart. Sky is not the limit but just the beginning. You shouldn't set sky as your limit when there are footprints on the moon.
Please be a solution to your community not a problem. I wish you result in flying colours. Congratulations on your graduation!
Thank you.
