FROM THE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT

COMRADE REUBEN ABATI'S VITUPERATION: AN HYPOCRITIC INTERVENTION.

Reuben Abati was the Chairman Editorial board of The Guardian newspaper and later became Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan. For years, Abati has the ears of President Jonathan and was infamous for defending the misdemeanors of his boss. During my early years of political consciousness, I so much admired Abati's Opinion on Guardian newspaper every Saturday. Abati's write-ups inspired persons like myself to contribute on national issues even on the dailies. I was so elated to hear he was appointed Media adviser to President Jonathan. To my greatest disillusionment, Abati years at the presidency was a misrepresentation of his assertions on paper.

Going through the Guardian newspaper Sunday 13th Dec, Abati lend his voice to the clamour of Great Ife students, condemning the terrific welfare condition and proffering ways forward. I must salute Comrade Abati for going the struggle, as this is commendable, however I will like to let him know that he was in the presidency for years and yet could not proffer such way forward.
Maybe I should demystify, the horrendous welfare condition did not start overnight. It is a fallout of poor underfunding which President Jonathan's government is also guilty of, since he could not divert some of the Abacha loot to the sector but conveniently divert funds to is NSA account. During this period Mr Abati did not write to publicly advise his master to take this education sector seriously.
The issue of poor welfare is not peculiar to IFE. I can say it on good note that OAU has a better welfare than most federal University but unlike their contempories, Ife students don't settle for mediocrity. The intense academic rigour could not permit us to keep mute in the face of such dilapidated and ill-capacitated infrastructure.
Every OAU student is conscious and inherently abhors oppression. This is why we are championing the cause for qualitative education in Nigeria through proper funding and enabling learning condition. This is not only commendable but is in alignment with our historical responsibility to champion pro-students causes.

We appreciate Abati's opinion, but we will appreciate him more if he can organise his paymasters to come around, donate and invest into our public tertiary institution.

OAU ILE-IFE STUDENT'S UNION VS

UNIVERSITY MANAGEMENT

...Way Forward?Nigeria! #(2)

Obafemi Awolowo University learning condition is better compared to most public Universities in Nigeria.
By record,OAU remains the best University in Nigeria for 5 consecutive times by Answer_Africa and Webometrics respective yearly rankings.
The recurrent protestation by the students of Great Ife against poor welfare condition, inadequate infrastructure among other complaints signals unhealthy state of the institutions academic environment.
One will then imagine the inadequacies that students in other public institutions are contending with."Most Nigeria Universities have become intellectual ghettos".-Audu Ogbeh during ministerial screening exercise of 2015.
Note that by United Nations Education,Scientific and Cultural Organisation(UNESCO) recommendation, at least 26% of annual Budget of all developing countries should be reserved to fund education(standard), federal government of Nigeria implemented just 10% of the annual budget to education.
Majority of Nigerians cannot afford private education fees, whereas from UNESCO report, ruling elites of Nigeria having children that school abroad spend #1.5 trillion annually;Nigeria private university fees is just infinitesimal to this.
"The problem here is not whether government can fund free education,it is about if Nigeria youth can rise, demand for free education"-ALLIANCE OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS AGAINST NEO-LIBERAL ATTACKS(ANSA).
Military rule would surely overwhelm the state of violence, maladministration, mass corruption and misappropriation of fund as experienced in Nigeria Democracy. Xup that Military regime after the support it offered to October 1960 Independence, paved way for progressive and better Nigeria retrospectively, the Military administration's achievement between January 1966 to 1999 is preferably better compared to retrogressive years under the present government, technically due to bad administrative structure put in place.
Hope of Democracy in Nigeria simply put Nigeria Democracy is not one. I define it as the government of the people, for some people and by some people.
In Nigeria there is no opportunity for youths to earnest potentials; they are voiceless in the society and unemployed, the oppressed are crying for liberty in the street, the poor people are getting poorer whereby the rich greedily 'sidon ontop' the national cake. What a shame!
The recent information from Obafemi Awolowo University's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Bamitale Omole informs the public of the lack of resources by the university to award automatic employment to first class graduates of the institution anymore due to the economic condition of the country.
The point now is,what is Nigeria wealth of resources doing for the youths?
Information from the news always portrayed economy meltdown day by day. I will emphatically state it here that Nigeria is not experiencing economy crisis but maladministration.
Former EFCC chairman, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu reveals that $60 billion is lost yearly from the federaration account. Emir of Kano and preceding CBN governor, mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi disclosed a missing $20 billion from NNPC account, he also said that #197 billion was lost to theft monthly by Goodluck Jonathan officials. Okonjo Iweala was not with clean hands, let alone Diezani Alison-Madueke as these two together with Jonathan were accused of looting #8 trillion oil funds.
The claim of bad economy by these unscrupulous and probity-lacked leaders baffles. Let's remenber that within Alison Madueke short period in office, she possessed more than 1 private jet!
The judicial system and law enforcement agents(POLICE,EFCC,SSS,NIA) are not different as one can easily predict the acquittance of corrupt officials,or detrimental magnanimous payment of bail less than the stolen money.
"Therefore, the contempt proceedings being initiated by Mr. Joseph Daudu will certainly provide an opportunity for me to join issues with the lawyers who are manipulating the criminal justice system to shield members of the ruling class from prosecution for grand corruption while indigent suspects are railroaded to jail over minor offences".-Mr Femi Falana(SAN) said in reply to Mr Joseph Daudu charge. Note: this same Joseph Daudu handled Ibori's case. Ibori was acquitted in Nigeria but later convicted and prosecuted in the UK.
I asked a friend,Adenugba OreOfe(a Philosophy student in OAU),can Nigeria Democracy save the country from imminent devastation? His reply was that only miracle can happen for a change in the system or by chance, war.
Then I highlighted his view in mind, is a war not a better alternative? A coward turns away from danger but a brave man's choice is danger. There is a wise saying that 'fortune favors the brave'.
"the spirit of resistance to government is so valuable on certain occasions, that i wish it always to be kept ".-Thomas Jefferson(3rd President of United States and founder of Democratic party).
Buttressing my view, Boko Haram day by day bombings, pro-Biafra resurfacing, unemployment rate of 60% Nigeria youth, total wreckage of economy with 30% of annual budget of the country allocated for National Assembly (NASS) only, two-third of national budget goes directly or indirectly to politicians and godfatherism. Are we joking that the worst is not happening?
This is a country where there is no food to eat,no good roads,no better equipped hospitals, epileptic power and water supply,no quality public education, cost of petroleum high; despite being a natural endowment, majority of state government are owing 3 month civil servant salary, some even as much as 5 and 6 months non-payment of salary! the average family is living on a 101 daily feeding plan.
Amidst this, there is a #25 million and set aside as monthly salary for lower and upper chamber legislators respectively!
The last couple of generations failed, and the present generation is failing. The responsibility of building the nation was lost to selfish desires, non involvement in accepting and rebuking unhealthy policies, children are forced to study courses out of line with their area of interest in higher institutions; they only want children and sibling to make their ends meet and leave the country at her ruins.
Instructively, even professional courses, example in health related courses now experience the worse, the last civil service recruitment exercise by Ekiti State Government had more than 2000 application forms by health practitioners(which included even doctor of mecine) of which100 of them were considered for employment.
At her present state,Nigeria is heading for a doom with needed attention as the few individuals who are at the mercy of the populace are getting old. My utmost respect is directed to Prof.Tam David-West, Wole Soyinka, Femi Falana, Fmr President Gowon as these honoured individuals always stand for the masses and offer support to them.
Late Chinua Achebe also offered his wealth of wisdom to the advantage of the Nigerian common man till he gave up the ghost.
"We demand immediate payment of living allowance, equivalent to the minimum wage, for unemployed Nigerians".-ANSA

SUGGESTED WAY FORWARD
(VISION 2020).

As long as I like editorials in newspaper and likewise other publications,I beseech readers to not view this as one. The problem of Nigeria is far worse than writing articles daily ONLY whereas, nothing meaningful is forthcoming. I hope Ugoke Obi-Chukwe, Abimbola Adelakun, Henry boyo among other editorial expert gets to read this as it will prove beneficial.
What Nigeria need is administrative structural change,an evolution.
Democracy is not practised in Nigeria presently. Political position has become a do or die affair because of the government lackadaisical attitude to change for many years in count.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo,I say thank you for the agony in your heart concerning Nigeria condition now that you are at post-president era.
The predicament of Nigeria is not caused by you alone but the present generation will require an assistance from you.
The highlight of reckless spending by the federal government of Nigeria is made from the legislative arm of government.
Let us take a brief view of the salary structure:
The remuneration of a Senator in Nigeria goes thus: the allowances apart from basic salary are
(1)Hardship Allowance (2)Constituency Allowance (3) Newspapers Allowance (4) Ward rope Allowance (5) Recess Allowance (6) Accommodation Allowance (7) Utilities (8) Domestic Staff (9) Entertainment (10) Personal Assistants (11) Vehicle Maintenance Allowance (12) Leave Allowance (13) Severance Gratuity (14)Car Allowance.

Total Monthly Salary= #29,479,749.00($181,974.00)
Yearly= ×12. = #353,756,988.00($2,183,685.00)
Using Rate: $1=162.
Note that US President annual salary is $400,000. While a US Lawmaker earns $8,606( #1.3 million) monthly.
Please note that with workers(civil servant) #18,000 minimum wage, over 20,000 workers salary can be paid by just 1 Nigeria Senator!

LEGISLATORS PAY BY CONTINENT(Per All um).
Africa: Ghana: $46,500.00. Kenya: $74,500.00
Asia: India: $11,200.00. Pakistan: $3,500.00
Europe: Spain: $43,900.00. Sweden: $99,300.00
North America: U.S:$174,000.00 Canada:$154,000.00
South America: Brazil: $157,600.00 France: $85,900.00.
(Nigeria:$2,183,685.00).

Excuse me,even if a religious leader is exposed to this,we would probably be praying for him for forgiveness of sin after about 8 years if care is not taken. This amount is too inimical to only 1 person that it can turn the heart of men incautiously, becoming a do or die affair. Never blame Mr David Mark, Bukola Saraki turning the Senate seat into a hereditarian arena.
Meanwhile the executives are not left out of this. Rumors say monthly looting of millions of dollars gathered from pipeline vandalism daily are perpetrated and sponsored by these avaricious beings!
Now,do we feel like failures? No we are not! as Nigeria is making waves outside the country and the continent.
Not many people know Engr. Emeagwali 'the father of internet', internet connections could have took many more decades to be discovered if not for this Nigerian in US.
Mind you, millions of Emeagwali and even greater are tirelessly looking for where to get ends meet, wasting potentials daily.
History behooves me to mention some heroes. Jubo Jubogba a.k.a Jaja of Opobo(1821-1975)who was a slave turned king, fought for National interest even till death.of notes also are Gani Fawehinmi, Dele Giwa, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, Shehu Shagari, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, fmr. President Musa Yaradua, Tai Solarin, might Ken Saro Wiwa. These patriotic Nigerians died directly or indirectly due to the struggle against wicked leaders at the top from suffering masses (note that these people have the wealth and also had opportunity to join hands to share the national cake).
OAU, LASU, EKSU,UNIPORT and many other universities in Africa and beyond always demonstrate whenever their demand is not met at the stipulated time.
Dear youth, this is not to provoke an headache but rather a reflection to action. The first capital needed for the course is the brain.
The present situation of the country demands intellectualism, strategic planning and physicality in terms of confrontation as our heroes did to salvage the future.
This surely is a logical step to revolution as the present President Buhari government have prosecuted criminals, the Youth are better informed about Nigeria politics anyway, we wish him a successful term there.
I commend the songs by Nigerian rapper;Olamide 'boys are not smiling','shakiti-bobo' and 'Nigeria jagajaga' by Idris Abdulkareem. All hands must be on deck so as to obtain a new Nigeria. The youth, who are the future of a place should not continue to fold arms and expect miracle to happen.

'The University,Polytechnics,College and other tertiary Institutions are churning out graduates in hundreds of thousands every year without job, thereby indirectly grooming them into future armies of revolution'.-Dr M.M Wokili, a senior lecturer at UNIPORT.
'ORA ET LABORA' is a latin word meaning Work and Pray is what I believe in from my primary school days at St Joseph. Tell that religious leader never to preach 24/7 prayer session henceforth for Nigeria as we are ready to submerge the present situation.
Brother,sister
do you still complain unemployment whereas the major job as a youth is revolution?
Do you want to be continually seen as blacks, unproductive, unreasoning and mentally derailed set of individuals by western world?
Ultimate question is do you think any of these political parties in Nigeria can save the country from collapse, unemployment, crime,violence,rich-richer,poor-poorer? capital NO! Predictably.
Now we are on course.
Nigeria and Africa might not have had many people among world's greatest philosophers, inventors, scientists,Nobel laureate but I believe there is a spirit of champion intrinsic in us which we have been known for in other countries, but Now! Even in this country Nigeria,we shall make history!

A Priest was being honoured at his retirement dinner after 25 years in the parish. The leading local politician was chosen to make the presentation and to give a little speech at the dinner. However, he was late,so the Priest decided to say his own few words while they waited.

He commenced with: “Thank Goodness we Catholics have a wonderful sense of humour! I got my first impression of this parish from the very first confession I ever heard here. I thought I had been assigned to a terrible place. The very first person who entered my confessional told me he had stolen a television set and, when questioned by the police, was able to lie his way out of it.He had stolen money from his parents, embezzled from his employer, had an affair with his boss’s wife, had s*x with his boss’s 17 year old daughter on numerous occasions, taken illegal drugs, had several homos*xual affairs, was arrested several times for public nudity.

I was appalled that one person could do so many awful things. But as the days went on, I learned that my people were not all like that and I had, indeed, come to a fine parish full of good and loving people.

Just as the Priest finished his talk, the politician arrived full of apologies at being late.

He immediately began to make thepresentation and gave his talk:“I’ll never forget the first day our parish Priest arrived,” said the politician. “In fact, I had the singular honour of being the first person to go to him for confession !”

Moral: Never, Never, Never Be Late.

ON THE DEATH OF MY MOTHER

At the dawn of Tuesday 8th December ,death came calling in my family. It took in its wake my dearest mum:MRS VICTORIA DARAMOLA.Dearest not just for sake of semantics.

Since then, I have been left in shock and disbelief. After spending a little more than three score and a decade on this planet, you would ordinarily think that she is old enough for this journey. But for me, it is too early and premature for her to proceed to the great beyond.

There are still accounts to settle between us .Our accounts are still in deficit at both ends.Actually, the deficits are not financial but roles and statuses.

Between the two of us ,there are roles yet to be played and statuses left unconferred.

I had hoped she will be at my call to bar.I had wanted her to answer MAMA LAWYER.But with this, graduation and call to bar ceremonies are both needless. The star figure is no more and none can ever attempt to replace her.

The one who clears the field and covers my track as needed is no more.

Let me stop to cry my fill and come back later.
