HEALTH ALERT: Medical doctor and health educator Aproko Doctor has warned Nigerians that some cancers, particularly stomach cancer, can produce symptoms that may be mistaken for common conditions such as ulcer.
Reacting to questions following the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, he explained that appearing healthy does not always mean there is no serious illness developing internally.
He stressed that an ulcer does not simply turn into cancer, but some cancers can cause symptoms commonly described as ulcer.
“If the symptoms keep returning despite treatment, don’t just keep changing the drug. Go back and investigate what is actually causing them,” he said.
He advised people to seek medical evaluation for persistent stomach pain, unexplained weight loss, repeated vomiting, loss of appetite, difficulty swallowing or feeling unusually full quickly.
However, Aproko Doctor cautioned that such symptoms do not automatically mean cancer, noting that most stomach pain is not caused by cancer.
“Don’t spend months or years treating a diagnosis that was never properly confirmed. If something keeps coming back, find out why.”
His comments came a day after Ogogo died at 66 following a battle with stage-four cancer. The actor’s daughters had earlier revealed that doctors could no longer continue chemotherapy because of his condition.
Aproko Doctor also expressed condolences to Ogogo’s family and loved ones, praying for the repose of the veteran actor’s soul.
