MTU Nursing Science Programme Achieves Full Accreditation Status

Mountain Top University has recorded another academic milestone as its Department of Nursing Science secured full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC), the regulatory body for university education in Nigeria.

The Department of Nursing Science, established in 2024 as one of the departments in the College of Allied Health Sciences has, within a remarkably short period, demonstrated outstanding compliance with national academic standards and professional requirements.

As part of the accreditation assessment process, a high-powered evaluation team from the NUC visited the University in January 2026 to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the programme. The team meticulously reviewed critical components of the department, including the adequacy of teaching and learning resources, laboratory facilities, library holdings, curriculum content, and classroom infrastructure. The exercise was designed to ascertain the department’s readiness to deliver quality education and produce competent healthcare professionals capable of meeting Nigeria’s healthcare needs and global standards.

The outcome of the rigorous evaluation was formally released in May 2026, with the Department of Nursing Science earning full accreditation status, an endorsement that affirms the programme’s academic integrity, institutional capacity, and commitment to excellence in all ramifications.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Elijah Ayolabi, described the achievement as a testament to the University’s unwavering pursuit of excellence. He expressed deep appreciation to the Chancellor, Dr D. K. Olukoya, a Professor of Biotechnology and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries Worldwide, for his visionary leadership and steadfast support.

Professor Ayolabi also commended the Governing Council, management, faculty, and the entire university community for their collective dedication, resilience, and commitment to maintaining high academic and moral standards.

With this national affirmation, Mountain Top University continues to strengthen its reputation as a rapidly emerging centre of excellence, committed to producing highly skilled, ethically grounded, and industry-ready graduates who can contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare sector and the global community.

Mountain Top University Participates in 2026 AAPG Imperial Barrel Award Competition, Emerges Second in Africa

At the semi-final of the 2026 American Association of Petroleum Geologists Imperial Barrel Award Competition, on 22 April 2026, the Department of Geology, Mountain Top University, emerged second among twelve universities that contested across Africa.

The global competition, organised by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists, is one of the world’s foremost geoscience contests designed to expose emerging geologists and geoscience students to real-life petroleum exploration challenges. The competition brought together universities from different continents, creating an avenue for students to demonstrate technical expertise, exchange innovative ideas, and compete within a highly professional and intellectually demanding environment.

This year’s African regional contest featured twelve universities that qualified for the semi-final stage. The institutions included Makerere University, Uganda; Mansoura University, Egypt; University of Lagos, Nigeria; University of Ibadan, Nigeria; Mountain Top University, Nigeria; Yakubu Gowon University, Nigeria; Cairo University, Egypt; Alexandria University, Egypt; Tanta University, Egypt; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Obafemi Awolowo University, Nigeria; and Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria.

During the competition, participating universities presented detailed geological and exploration analyses before an international panel of industry experts and academics. Representing Mountain Top University were Abosi Ikenna and Odoemela Adesuwa, both Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) students, alongside Keku Oluwatimilehun and Oluwadamilola Emmanuel, who are 400-level students of the institution.

The Mountain Top University team delivered an impressive presentation that showcased strong depth of knowledge, technical expertise, teamwork, and outstanding communication skills. Their performance attracted commendation from the global panel.

At the conclusion of the assessment process, judges carefully evaluated participating institutions based on technical competence, interpretation of geological data, creativity, presentation quality, teamwork, and overall understanding of petroleum exploration concepts. Mountain Top University once again distinguished itself among the competing institutions by securing second place in Africa.

Reacting to the achievement, the Head of the Department of Geophysics at Mountain Top University, Dr M. O. Okunubi, described the competition as a valuable academic and professional exposure for students and staff alike.

According to him, the Imperial Barrel Award Competition provides participants with first-hand insight into the real-life challenges faced by professionals in the oil and gas industry and helps bridge the gap between classroom learning and industry practice.

“The competition enables students to assess themselves, build confidence in their knowledge of geosciences, and develop practical problem-solving skills relevant to the global energy sector,” he said, while commending the organisers for sustaining an initiative that promotes innovation and excellence among young geoscientists.

Also speaking, Dr N. O. Ayinde, a seasoned lecturer who prepared the university’s team for the competition, noted that the exercise closely mirrors real-world petroleum exploration projects.

He explained that participating teams were tasked with analysing basin data, identifying prospects, and presenting exploration strategies to experts within a strict timeline of approximately eight weeks.

The outstanding performance of Mountain Top University at the 2026 AAPG Imperial Barrel Award Competition further indicates the trajectory and fulfilment of the institution’s ethos of producing globally competitive graduates equipped with the knowledge, competence, and character required to excel in their respective professions.

As the university continues to expand its footprint in research, innovation, and professional development, this is another testament to the kind of products manufactured by Mountain Top University as it furthers its holistic education agenda.

Mountain Top University Unveils Advanced Virtual Pipe Organ for Music Education

Mountain Top University has taken a significant step towards advancing music education by acquiring a highly sophisticated Altus virtual pipe organ, supplied by Altus Klass and funded by Dr Daniel Kolawole Olukoya - chancellor of Mountain Top University and General Overseer of Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries, worldwide.

Speaking during an interview session, the project consultant, Dr Ayo Oluranti, described the instrument as one of the most advanced developments in digital organ technology. He noted that it represents the closest available replication of the sound and performance characteristics of traditional pipe organs.

According to the expert, the innovation is rooted in virtual pipe organ technology pioneered by Martin Dyer, an English developer who identified key limitations in earlier organ systems, particularly inadequate computing power and storage capacity. By leveraging advancements in modern computing, developed by companies such as Microsoft and Apple, the technology employs powerful software to reproduce authentic pipe organ sounds on platforms such as Windows and macOS.

Although the technology was first introduced in Nigeria in 2014 at a church on Banana Island, its adoption remained limited due to concerns about reliability and resistance to touchscreen-based systems. However, recent technological advancements have successfully addressed these challenges.

This newly acquired organ by Mountain Top University is a unique hybrid organ that integrates traditional tactile controls with modern touchscreen interfaces. This fusion of classical and contemporary design elements makes the system the first of its kind in Nigeria.
Beyond its design, the instrument stands out for its exceptional versatility. Despite being a single physical system, it functions as multiple organs in one, enabling users to switch seamlessly between different organ types and sound traditions including T.C. Lewis (English Symphonic), Edmund Schulze (German Neo-Classical), Cavaillé-Coll (French Symphonic), Mascioni (Italian Neo-Baroque), Wurlitzer theatre organ, Harmonium, and Kenneth Tickell (Anglo-French Symphonic), among others.

Dr Oluranti further confirmed that the primary purpose of the organ is educational. It is designed as a pedagogical tool to expose students to diverse global organ traditions, including American, French, German, Dutch, and English styles, as well as historical variations spanning the Baroque and Romantic periods to modern symphonic developments.

“This instrument effectively transports students into diverse musical environments around the world,” the expert explained, adding that it creates an immersive learning experience without the need for international travel. Despite its sophistication, the system is designed to be user-friendly. According to the expert, its computer-based interface is intuitive, enabling students to quickly learn its operation with proper guidance.

The instrument will primarily serve students in the Department of Music. However, access will also be extended to participants in the Every Student a Musician (ESM) programme who are interested in learning how to use the organ. Every Student a Musician is a special initiative developed by Mountain Top University to ensure that every student, regardless of discipline, acquires proficiency in at least one musical instrument before graduation.
