AKCILS QUALITY ASSURANCE DIRECTORATE BEGINS COMPLIANCE MONITORING AHEAD OF NCCE FOLLOW-UP

In a renewed push to sustain the academic standards, the *Directorate of Quality Assurance* of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, (AKCILS), has launched a College-wide monitoring and evaluation exercise to ensure full compliance with directives issued by the National Commission for Colleges of Education, (NCCE), accreditation panel.

The initiative is part of Management’s strategy to swiftly address observations raised during the previous NCCE accreditation exercise and to consolidate the gains recorded by the College.

Speaking in an interview with the P&PR Directorate, the Director of Quality Assurance, Dr. Lami Shettima, said the Directorate is fully conversant with the benchmarks set up by the accreditation team and is fully committed and determined to driving compliance across all Schools concerned.

“As a key component of the accreditation process, it is our statutory responsibility and mandate to monitor, evaluate, and ensure that all Schools meet the standards prescribed by the NCCE panel. This is to complement the efforts of College Management in achieving the overall objectives of the exercise,” Dr. Shettima stated.

She explained that the monitoring will focus on critical areas including infrastructure, staffing, curriculum implementation, students’ records, and other academic requirements highlighted by the panel.

Dr. Shettima urged Deans and Heads of Departments to expedite action in addressing the identified gaps to enable the College to meet the set timelines.

“We call on all Schools concerned to treat this assignment with the urgency it deserves. Timely compliance will not only guarantee accreditation but will also elevate the quality of teaching, learning, and service delivery at AKCILS,” she said.

The College Management has reaffirmed its commitment to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure that AKCILS not only meets but also exceeds NCCE standards.

AKCILS Ag.PROVOST ATTENDS MATRICULATION CEREMONY AT YUSUF MAITAMA SULE COLLEGE OF EDUCATION GHARI

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Kano, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has attended the maiden matriculation ceremony of Yusuf Maitama Sule College of Education and Advanced Studies, Ghari, Kano, for the 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 Academic Sessions.

The ceremony, which was held at the college premises, brought together the management, staff, parents, students and other stakeholders to formally welcome the newly admitted students into the institution.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Mu’az congratulated the management of the College, parents and matriculating students for witnessing the important occasion.

The Acting Provost urged the matriculated students to utilise the opportunity provided by their admission to pursue their studies with dedication, discipline and determination. He encouraged them to study hard and remain focused on their academic goals, while avoiding social vices and other activities that could have negative consequences on their future.

Dr. Mu’az further advised the students to uphold good character, respect their lecturers and make effective use of their time and the educational opportunities available to them.

On his part, the Provost of Yusuf Maitama Sule College of Education and Advanced Studies, Prof. Abdullahi Asiru, disclosed that the matriculated students comprised learners enrolled in various academic disciplines offered by the institution.

He expressed appreciation to the parents, students and guests for their presence and support towards the development of the college.

The maiden matriculation ceremony marked an important milestone in the academic journey of Yusuf Maitama Sule College of Education and Advanced Studies, Ghari, Kano.

AKCILS SEEKS GREENHOUSE FACILITY, WATER SUPPLY SUPPORT FROM THE STATE GOVERNMENT

The Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has appealed to the Kano State Government to provide the College with a greenhouse facility to enhance agricultural production and practical training for students.

The Provost made the appeal during the flag-off ceremony of the planting of 800 trees organised by the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the College, under the headship of Malam Jazuli Hussaini Musa.

Dr. Tamasi, who was represented at the occasion by the Deputy Provost, Administration, Barrister Dijah Isa Hashim, also appealed to the Kano State Commissioner for Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, to assist the College in addressing its water supply challenges.

He explained that the College was in dire need of a reliable water supply system, particularly for its agricultural activities and other institutional needs. He therefore requested the intervention of the Ministry in providing a sustainable water source for the College.

The Provost further appealed for the provision of pesticides to help combat pest attacks that had affected some of the crops cultivated by the Department of Agricultural Sciences.
According to him, the pest infestation was adversely affecting both agricultural production and the practical training of students, stressing the need for timely intervention to protect the crops and sustain the College’s agricultural programmes.

In his response, the Commissioner, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, expressed satisfaction with the College’s efforts to complement the state government and the Ministry in addressing environmental degradation through its tree-planting initiative.

He commended the College for demonstrating commitment to environmental sustainability and promised to support its efforts.

The Commissioner pledged to provide the College with a solar-powered water borehole to address its immediate water needs. He also disclosed that arrangements were being made for the possible extension of water supply to the College from the Goron Dutse Water Reservoir in the near future.

Dr. Hashim further assured the College that his office remained open to initiatives aimed at promoting environmental development, promising to give favourable consideration to any relevant project proposals presented by the College.

In her vote of thanks, the College Registrar, Hajiya Raliya Aliyu Abubakar, appealed to the Ministry to provide the College with modern refuse disposal bins to improve waste management and ensure proper disposal of refuse within the College premises.

She expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for taking time to attend the tree-planting ceremony and for listening to the various needs presented by the College.

The flag-off ceremony marked another step by AKCILS towards promoting environmental sustainability, agricultural development and practical learning among its students through tree planting and other agricultural initiatives.

AKCILS UPGRADE PROJECT: ACTING PROVOST SEEKS INFORMATION COMMISSIONER’S SUPPORT

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has continued his wider consultation with key stakeholders as part of efforts to actualise his administration’s “AKCILS Upgrade Project.”

The Acting Provost paid a working visit to the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Wayya, where he sought the Commissioner’s support and intervention towards advancing the upgrade project of the College.

Dr. Mu’az intimated the Commissioner on the state of affairs of the College while explaining that the main purpose of the visit was to seek his support and guidance to mobilising the relevant stakeholders towards the development and advancement of AKCILS.The project his administration initiated since assumption of office.

The Acting Provost also highlighted the importance of collective efforts in addressing the challenges confronting the College and expressed confidence that the intervention and support of the key stakeholders would undoubtedly contribute significantly to the success of the upgrade project.

Responding, the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim Wayya, expressed his willingness to supporting the initiative, noting that he is always having good intention towards the development of the College, even before his appointment as Commissioner.

Comrade Wayya attributed some of the challenges facing the institution to what he described as an attitude of indifference towards the College by some students and members of the public, stressing the need for greater commitment and collective responsibility towards its development.

The Commissioner assured the Acting Provost of his readiness to contribute his quota to the development of AKCILS, declaring: “From today, I will embark on this journey to contribute my quota. I will find out and contact you. I will do all I could to fast-track the process.”

He described the initiative as a worthy engagement and assured the Acting Provost that he would explore available avenues to support the College in achieving its development objectives.

Comrade Wayya further tasked the Acting Provost to redouble his efforts and maintain the tempo of engagements with relevant stakeholders while commending the visibility his administration has continued to achieve through its various activities and stakeholder consultations.

He urged the Acting Provost to sustain the momentum and remain committed and steadfast to the ongoing efforts aimed at repositioning and upgrading the College to greater heights.

The Acting Provost expressed appreciation to the Commissioner for the warm reception and assurances of support, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to pursuing the AKCILS Upgrade Project through the sustained consultation, collaboration and strategic engagement with relevant stakeholders.

AKCILS SCHOOL OF VOCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION PAYS HOMAGE TO ACTING PROVOST

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies, (AKCILS) Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, yesterday received in audience the Dean and management team of the School of Vocational and Technical Education, (SVTE) at the *Majidadin Kauran Katsina Conference Hall*.

The visit was part of the Provost’s ongoing engagement with stakeholders to strengthen the attainment of service delivery across the College.

Dr. Mu’az underscored the strategic importance of the School of Vocational and Technical Education in equipping youths with practical skills for self-reliance and national development.

“The role of vocational and technical education in any institution cannot be overstated. It is central to shaping self-sufficient graduates. At all levels, government is formulating policies aimed at encouraging young people to acquire vocational and technical skills in order to curb the menace of unemployment after graduation,” the Acting Provost said.

He assured the Deanery that management is making concerted efforts to address the challenge of inadequate office accommodation for staff. He also commended the Head of the Department of Agriculture for dedication and commitment to departmental growth, and urged the Heads of Fine Art and Home Economics to borrow leaf and emulate the same zeal. He further pledged to reward his outstanding performance in due course.

Dr. Mu’az reiterated that the College Management is prioritizing the provision of working tools and staff welfare to enhance service delivery.

“Our commitment is to ensure that practical trainings are adequately observed across all programmes in the School,” he affirmed.

The Acting Provost further disclosed that all pre-NCE students who do not meet the admission requirements will be properly placed within the institution.

Earlier in his address, the Dean of the School Malam Kabir Ado Ahmad, expressed appreciation to the Acting Provost for his prompt intervention that enabled the Department of Business Education to conduct students’ practicals.

He appealed to management to expedite action on the provision of office accommodation for senior staff of the School. He also requested his intervention for the establishment of an Art Gallery and a Laboratory, as well as College support for the procurement of consumables required for practical training.

Malam Kabir further requested the constitution of a Committee to address the academic fate of unqualified pre-NCE students, noting that the matter requires urgent College attention.

The meeting was attended by Heads of Departments, senior lecturers, and principal officers of the School.

AKCILS RECEIVES DONATION OF CLASSROOM FURNITURE FROM AN ALUMNA

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Kano, Dr Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has received a donation of ten 50-seater classroom furniture from an alumna of the College’s 1988 Law class, who is a Senior Magistrate in Kano and philanthropist.

The donation was formally received by the Acting Provost in the company of members of the College Management at a colourful ceremony held at the Majidadin Kauran Katsina Conference Hall of the College.

Speaking at the occasion, Dr. Tamasi commended the donor for remembering her alma mater and responding to the College’s infrastructural needs at a time when such intervention is greatly needed.

He described the gesture as inspirational, saying it demonstrated a deep sense of appreciation and gratitude to the institution that contributed to the donor’s academic and professional development.

“It is highly inspirational for a son or daughter to consider coming to the aid of his or her mother and leaving behind a legacy that will stand the test of time,” the Acting Provost said.

Dr. Tamasi explained that, due to the nomenclature of the College, AKCILS does not currently benefit from interventions provided by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to eligible tertiary institutions.

He therefore expressed appreciation for the growing contributions of the College’s alumni, noting that previous alumni interventions had included the renovation of female students’ toilets, provision of whiteboards, construction of boreholes and installation of solar power facilities in parts of the College.

“You are the first alumna to assist the College specifically with classroom infrastructure,” the Acting Provost stated.

Dr. Tamasi also recalled with appreciation the contributions of the Kano State Government to the development of the College, including the construction of the perimeter fence, renovation of the main theatre and completion of the Students’ Centre, among other interventions.

He further disclosed the College’s determination to develop the vast parcel of land allocated to the College Alumni Directorate and appealed to the donor to support efforts towards realising the project.

Responding, the donor, whose name was withheld, pledged her continued commitment to supporting the development of her alma mater. She also expressed readiness to seek the support of non-governmental organisations and relevant agencies for major developmental and infrastructural projects that could accelerate the growth of the College.

In her vote of thanks, the College Registrar, Hajiya Raliya Aliyu Abubakar, expressed appreciation to the donor for the gesture and wished her a safe return to her destination.

AKCILS ACTING PROVOST VISITS KHAIRUN VC, SEEKS STRONGER INSTITUTIONAL TIES

The Acting Provost of Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies (AKCILS), Kano, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az, has paid an official working visit to the Vice-Chancellor of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN), Professor Abdurrashid Garba, as part of his efforts to strengthen the cordial relationship and promote academic collaboration between the two neighbouring institutions.

Speaking during the visit, the Acting Provost said he was at the university to formally introduce himself to the leadership of KHAIRUN following his appointment as Acting Provost of AKCILS.

Dr. Mu’az noted that, being a neighbouring institution, it was important for him to pay the visit and establish a closer working relationship with the university Community.

“I am here to formally introduce myself to the leadership of the university. Being a neighbour, I have to come to visit you and formally introduce myself to you,” he said.

The Acting Provost also traced the history of the establishment of KHAIRUN, recalling the contributions of some important personalities, including himself, towards the actualisation of the university.

He explained that his personal relationship with the Vice-Chancellor also contributed to his decision to pay the visit, noting that Professor Abdurrashid Garba was his teacher during his university education.

“You were my teacher at the university. That is why I am here, to formally pay you homag and to ensure my respect to your humble personality as my teacher,” Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’az stated.

He further expressed his desire to strengthen the relationship between AKCILS and KHAIRUN, particularly through academic cooperation and exchange of ideas that would benefit the two institutions.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor of KHAIRUN, Professor Abdurrashid Garba, expressed appreciation to the Acting Provost for the visit and commended him for the various initiatives and programmes he introduced since assuming office.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the initiatives being introduced by the Acting Provost would contribute significantly to the development of the College, adding that such achievements would also position him for greater responsibilities when eventually confirmed as Provost.

Professor Garba particularly commended the Acting Provost for initiating and promoting new academic programmes at AKCILS, including the Professional Diploma in Hisbah and Imama, describing such initiatives as important steps towards expanding the academic profile and relevance of the College.

The Vice-Chancellor also expressed the readiness of KHAIRUN management to strengthen its cordial relationship with AKCILS and explore areas of academic collaboration between the two institutions.

He specifically expressed interest in collaboration in the area of Qur’anic Studies, noting its potentiality for both institutions to work together in advancing scholarship, research and knowledge in the field.

The visit ended on a positive note, with both institutions expressing their commitment to maintaining the established cordial relationship and exploring practical areas of academic collaboration for mutual benefit.
