World Malaria Day
Utopia College of Health Science and Technology held a special program to mark World Malaria Day on 26/4/2026. The goal was to teach students more about malaria and help them grow as future public health professionals, Students, lecturers and other people came together to make it happen.
Mallam Mustafa Alkasim led the program from beginning to end.
The day started with an opening prayer by Haruna Yusuf. After that, everyone recited the Public Health and Community Health Anthem together.
Mallam Mustafa Alkasim then gave a keynote speech. He explained why World Malaria Day is important and reminded students that the program was meant to build their knowledge and capacity in public and community health field respectively, not just observe a day.
Some students gave presentations on malaria-related topics on different topics. It was a good opportunity for them to show what they have learned.
Two lectures followed — one by Dr. Adamu Ahmad Ibrahim and another by Mallama Ramlat Ibrahim. Both shared useful and practical information about malaria and leadership in public health field.
The Director, Dr. Najib Sani Aliyu also spoke briefly. He gave students two key reminders and encouraged them to apply what they learn in their daily lives and future work.
Mallam Mustafa Alkasim gave the final remarks, by thanking all the participants for being there despite the tight schedules and too much commitment which weekend embodied and still urging everyone to take malaria prevention seriously in their communities and warn on the effect of self-medication which may lead to antimicrobial resistance in malaria treatment.
The program closed with the Public Health Anthem, led by Amina Hamza from Arewa Health Promotion Initiative, followed by a closing prayer by Musbahu Muhammad as well.
The program was well-organized and straightforward. It helped students learn more about malaria and reminded them that public health and community health are something they can actively contribute to and live with in their daily lives.
