GOVERNOR ZULUM PROVIDES PERMANENT APPOINTMENT TO BEST GRADUATING TRAINEES OF MUNA VOCATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE

In a landmark gesture to promote skills development and youth empowerment, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved the appointment of 64 outstanding graduates of the Muna Vocational Training Institute as teachers and trainers across the state’s vocational institutions.

The beneficiaries, who excelled in their qualifying examinations after undergoing intensive training in various vocational skills, were celebrated during a graduation ceremony personally attended by the Governor.

Governor Zulum, in his remarks, praised the trainees for their commitment and excellent performance. He reiterated his administration's determination to harness technical and vocational education as a sustainable pathway for youth empowerment and economic growth. “When properly nurtured, vocational skills can significantly reduce the overdependence on government jobs,” the Governor emphasized.

In line with this vision, the Governor directed the immediate screening and placement of the selected graduates into relevant vocational institutions and sectors of the state workforce.

The screening exercise, which was conducted today at the Borno State Senior Secondary Education Board (BSSSEB), was overseen by a committee led by the Executive Chairman of the Board, Alhaji Ali Kaka. Other members of the committee include:

Zulum presents working tools to 150 almajirai trained in vocational skills

Borno State Governor Engr Babagana Umara Zulum has presented working tools to 150 almajirai students trained in vocational skills by his administration.

The training covered a variety of trades, including electrical installation and repair work, solar installation and repair work, leatherwork, welding, carpentry and building construction.

The initiative also includes cash support to enable beneficiaries to start their trades and contribute to the society's development.

It seeks to enhance individual capabilities, uplift communities and provide almajirai with sustainable pathways to economic independence.

Delivering his address, Governor Zulum emphasised that his administration would continue to foster opportunities for the almajiri learners to secure a brighter future.

“By attending this training programme, you have taken a crucial step towards securing your future; equipped with new skills, you now have the power to transform your dreams into
reality.

“As the Governor of Borno State, I assure you that our Government remains fully committed to supporting the Sangaya Islamic education. We will continue investing in Sangaya educational resources to ensure every learner can access quality teaching and learning essentials," he stated.

Zulum, however, expressed concern about the rising cases of molestation of children in the guise of teaching Islamic education.

He said: “I would like to take this opportunity to address a critical concern: the safety and well-being of our Sangaya learners. I stand firm in the commitment that the Borno State Government will not tolerate any form of molestation or violence, such as caning against any Almajiri. Every one of you, regardless of your background, deserves to be treated with respect and dignity.

Bolori ll Youth Development Association BYDA And the good people of bolori ll ward have shown their warmest appreciation to the Executive Governor of Borno State Professor Babagana Umara Zulum for the construction of a befitting and ultramodern Vocational training center at 7up Ngrannam Behind COVID 19 Hospital of Bolori ll with the state of the earth facility of toiletries furnished with a borehole for enough water supply with four entrances and exit gates for free movements of people in the center.

We also appreciates the efforts of Community members for making the project happened and always forwarding the problems of the communists.

SCHOOLS SUPERVISION VISIT TO CENTRAL BORNO – DAY ONE AND TWO (MAFA, DIKWA, AND NGALA)

The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his statewide school supervision tour with visits to Mafa, Dikwa, and Ngala Local Government Areas.

Day One: Mafa and Dikwa

Mafa

Engr. Wakilbe began his tour at Ngom Primary and Junior Day Secondary School, then proceeded to Government Day Secondary School, Vocational Enterprise Institute, Central Primary, and Junior Day Secondary School, all in Mafa, before concluding at Ajiri Primary School.
During the visit, the Commissioner expressed concern over the low student turnout and high absenteeism among teachers, emphasizing the need for immediate improvement.

Dikwa

In Dikwa, the Commissioner visited Government Day Secondary School, Shehu Sanda, Central, Kalaa Garu Primary, and Junior Day Secondary School. He also inspected the completed teachers’ quarters and the ongoing construction of the Higher Islamic School, Dikwa.
Engr. Wakilbe commended the strong teacher and student turnout in Dikwa and distributed learning materials and dignity kits to adolescent girls.

Day Two: Ngala

The second day of the tour began early in Gamboru, where the Commissioner inspected Government Day Secondary School Gamboru, Gamboru Central, and Ndjamaina Primary and Junior Day Secondary School.
At Ngala, he assessed the ongoing construction of Government Secondary School Ngala, Central Primary, and Junior Day Secondary School Ngala.

On the way to Wulgo, the team stopped to inspect the Higher Islamic College Gamboru and Ladari Primary School. At Wulgo, the Commissioner examined the completed secondary school project, as well as the Primary and Junior Day Secondary School Wulgo.
The tour concluded at Logomane, where the team inspected the Primary and Junior Day Secondary School.

SCHOOLS SUPERVISION VISIT TO NORTHERN BORNO – DAY ONE & TWO

The Honourable Commissioner for Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his schools supervision tour in Northern Borno.

Day One: Magumeri and Nganzai

The Commissioner began his visit with an inspection of Tungushe Primary and Junior Secondary School in Konduga LGA. He then proceeded to Gajigana in Magumeri LGA, where he inspected the newly completed Higher Islamic College, Senior Secondary School, and Mega Primary and Junior Day School.

In Gajiram, Nganzai LGA, Engr. Wakilbe assessed the completed Higher Islamic College, Senior Secondary School, and Government Secondary School Gajiram, where he engaged with staff and distributed dignity kits to adolescent girls. Additionally, he inspected the Primary and Junior Day Secondary School operated by Guzamala LEA at the SDG Housing Estate, Gajiram, before visiting Gajiram Central and Mega Junior Day Secondary School, where he interacted with staff and distributed learning materials and dignity kits.

Day Two: Kukawa

The Commissioner and his team visited Cross Kauwa Primary and Junior Day School, where he directed the immediate rehabilitation of the secondary section and distributed learning materials and dignity kits to students. The team then proceeded to Aji Masta School in Kukawa, where Lt. Col. F. U. Umar, the Commanding Officer, received them and guided the Commissioner around the school. Engr. Wakilbe assured the community that the school had been earmarked for complete rehabilitation and distributed learning materials, recreational items, and dignity kits to students.

The visit continued to Baga Central and Doron Baga Primary and Junior Day Secondary Schools, where the Commissioner engaged with staff and distributed essential items. SCHOOLS SUPERVISION VISIT – DAY ONE & TWO

The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, embarked on a week-long tour of schools across the state to assess ongoing rehabilitation projects and educational facilities.

Day One

The Commissioner began his tour with an inspection of the ongoing rehabilitation works at Government Secondary School, Konduga, followed by a visit to Bama, where he assessed the construction progress of the Higher Islamic College.

He then proceeded to Gwoza, where he inspected the rehabilitated Vocational Training Centre, the ongoing Higher Islamic College project, and the proposed Second Chance School, Gwoza.

Day Two

The second day commenced with visits to two schools recently rehabilitated following flood damage: Government Technical College, Damboa, and Government Secondary School, Damboa, where the Commissioner interacted with staff and students.

His tour continued with inspections of Garjan Primary and Junior Day School, Wovi Primary and Junior Day School, and Government Day Secondary School, Gumsuri.

The team then proceeded to Chibok, where the Commissioner inspected the rehabilitated Government Secondary School, Chibok, Chibok Central Primary and Junior Day School, Government Technical College, Mbalala, and the site of the ongoing Higher Islamic College, Chibok.

The final leg of the day’s tour took place in Askira Uba, where he visited Government Secondary School, Askira, Government Junior Day School, Askira, and Government Secondary School, Uba. There, he engaged with staff and students before distributing dignity kits to female students. The day concluded with an inspection of the ongoing Mega School project in Uvu and the Higher Islamic College, Uba.

SCHOOLS SUPERVISION VISIT: DAY FIVE AND SIX

The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his school supervision tour across Biu, Bayo, and Kwaya Kusar.

Day Five

The visit began at the Vocational Training Center in Biu, followed by inspections at Government Senior Science Secondary School Biu and Command Girls Secondary School Biu before proceeding to Kwaya Kusar.

In Kwaya Kusar, the team visited Government Day Secondary School Wandali, Government Secondary School, Mega Primary and Junior Day Secondary School Kwaya Kusar

The visit then extended to Bayo Local Government Area, where the team inspected Government Day Secondary School, Government Junior Day Secondary School Balbaya, Government Technical College Wuyo, and Government Secondary School Briyel.

Day Six

The day’s activities began with an inspection of Filinjirgi Government Day Secondary School, Primary and Junior Day Secondary School, followed by a visit to Government Secondary School Waka in Waka Biu. The team then stopped at the College of Education Waka Biu, where they engaged with teachers undergoing Phase Five of the Teacher Training Program.

The team proceeded to Miringa to inspect the ongoing Mega School construction project before moving to Buratai, where they assessed Government Day Secondary School Buratai and Junior Day and Primary School Buratai.

Upon returning to Maiduguri, the Honourable Commissioner attended the closing ceremony of the week-long training for Vice Principals of Government Secondary Schools across the state at Arabic Village, Maiduguri.

The Honourable Commissioner of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation, Engr. Lawan Abba Wakilbe, continued his school supervision tour of Southern Borno on Tuesday, 11th, and Wednesday, 12th February 2025.

Day Three – Hawul & Biu

The Commissioner and his team commenced their tour with an inspection of Government Girls’ Secondary School, Shaffa, where he announced that an intervention was underway to restore the boarding facility.

They proceeded to Government Secondary School, Sakwa, where plans were outlined to upgrade the school into a Centre of Excellence.

The day’s tour concluded with visits to Government Junior Day School, Gwanza, and Government Girls’ Senior Science Secondary School, Biu, where the Commissioner interacted with teachers and students and distributed dignity kits to adolescent girls.

Day Four – Biu & Shani

The Commissioner began Day Four with a visit to the Old Vocational Centre, Biu, where he announced that His Excellency, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, mni, FNSE, Executive Governor of Borno State, had directed its conversion into the Second Chance Women/Girls’ Skills Acquisition Centre, Biu.

He then proceeded to Shani, starting at the dilapidated Government Girls’ Secondary School, Shani, where he announced that His Excellency had directed an immediate intervention to address the school’s challenges.

The tour continued with visits to Government Secondary School, the Vocational Enterprise Institute, and the Central Primary and Junior Day School, where the Commissioner engaged with students and distributed dignity kits to adolescent girls.

The team then proceeded to Government Day Secondary School, Bargu, Government Day Secondary School, Kubo, and concluded the tour at Government Day Secondary School, Bilala Kutuki.
