A historic homecoming: FUNATO welcomes its pioneer students

With hearts full of joy and gratitude, we warmly congratulate our visionary leaders, dedicated stakeholders, and compassionate well-wishers on the historic resumption of students at the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO). Over the past week, the ancient and beloved town of Okeho has come alive as students steadily arrive, and as of yesterday, the influx grew even stronger. It is truly a dream fulfilled for the entire Oke-Ogun region.

This remarkable milestone would not have been possible without the unwavering support and commitment of distinguished personalities. We express profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the highly respected Prof. Segun Gbadegesin, a proud recipient of a national award, and Distinguished Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, alongside countless supporters at home and in the diaspora whose efforts turned this vision into reality.

On the part of the University Management, Governing Council, Deans, and the Senate, tireless preparations have been made to ensure a smooth and welcoming resumption. Every effort has been devoted to receiving about 1,300 students arriving from across Nigeria and beyond.

As we celebrate this defining moment, we humbly appeal to transporters, food vendors, and service providers to show kindness and moderation in their charges. Let us embrace this historic beginning with unity, fairness, and pride, working together to nurture and grow FUNATO into a beacon of excellence. Thank you all.

🚨🚨🚨Great week: Resumption of pioneer FUNATO students

A defining hour has struck for the ancient town of Okeho and the entire region. This week unveils the true spirit of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO) as it welcomes its pioneer students. Indeed, a university without students is but a body without a soul; now, the soul is arriving.

The gates stand wide open. Lecture halls breathe in quiet anticipation. Classrooms await the sound of ideas colliding and destinies unfolding. The management team watches with hopeful hearts. Deans and the Dean of Students, Prof. Lukman Akinbile, alongside his dedicated team, are fully stationed at the hostels, prepared, organized, expectant.

Facts meet faith on this historic resumption. Over 700 iron beds have been carefully installed, each supported with a 10kVA solar inverter to guarantee stable power. Security personnel, hall wardens, and porters stand ready, embodying the timeless proverb: “Well begun is half done.” Every detail has been arranged to ensure comfort, safety, and dignity for the students who will call FUNATO home.

Friday, 6th of March, shall be etched in memory. Parents and students will throng the campus for the very first time, their hearts brimming with dreams and silent prayers. Drummers will line the gates in celebration, for this is no ordinary resumption, it is the birth of legacy.

Beyond academics, this moment signals the dawn of economic awakening. Transporters, food vendors, drink sellers, artisans, and landlords are called to participate in this new chapter. FUNATO is not only an institution; it is a catalyst. When a university rises, a community rises with it.

From Okeho to Kajola LGA, across the ten Oke-Ogun LGAs, through Oyo State and the Nigerian nation, hope now walks our streets. As philosophy reminds us, “The future belongs to those who prepare for it.” FUNATO has prepared. The future begins now.

🚨🚨As the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho prepares for the resumption of academic activities on Friday, March 6, a renewed sense of purpose and excitement is sweeping through the ancient town of Okeho. Administrators, community leaders, and private partners are working round the clock to ensure that a sizeable number of forward looking students secure comfortable, safe, and affordable accommodation across the town and its suburbs.

In a major housing boost, the University has concluded arrangements with building owners for the installation of 400 double bunks. By Wednesday next week, all fabrications will be completed, paving the way for 800 bed spaces to be deployed to carefully selected hostels in strategic locations.

Each building will feature solar-powered amenities, reinforced security presence, and controlled access portals to guarantee safety and convenience. Hostel operations will reflect the time-tested Hall Warden system, promoting discipline, order, and responsive student support.

By Sunday, March 1, the exact hostel locations will be officially published and made available to the public, giving families ample time to plan. Parents and guardians are warmly welcomed as they accompany their wards for the new session, with assurances that welfare, security, and academic focus remain top priorities.

The University and host community Okeho, is united in delivering a seamless, inspiring, and productive start to the epoch making semester.

This coordinated effort is to ensure excellence, innovation, and student-centered growth, setting the stage for a vibrant campus life and a rewarding academic journey for every matriculating scholar. Stakeholders remain dedicated to continuous improvement and transparent communication throughout the term.

Welcome to FUNATO campus, as we anticipate your arrival for resumption.

FUNATO: The matter of school fees

Good day, dear classmate. I owe you this response because you deserve a sincere and responsible explanation regarding the recent criticism of the school fees at the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO).

First, it is important to clarify that decisions concerning school fees are not arbitrary. At Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Okeho (FUNATO), every adjustment follows due process. Proposals are deliberated upon by the University Senate and subsequently reviewed and approved by the Governing Council. This ensures that decisions reflect institutional needs, regulatory standards, and the welfare of students, not personal interests.

Second, when objectively compared with other federal institutions such as University at Iragbiji, Iyin-Ekiti, Ogonni, etc, the difference in total payable charges is marginal, approximately ₦10,000 higher in our case. This slight variation does not represent an excessive burden but rather reflects specific services embedded in our structure.

Notably, FUNATO’s fees include registration for comprehensive university health services. Unlike some institutions that lack fully functional campus clinics, our university maintains an operational health facility accessible to students. If the health service component were excluded, our fees would arguably rank among the lowest within comparable federal universities.

Furthermore, universities differ in mandate and operational focus. As an agriculture and technology institution, FUNATO requires specialized laboratories, farm facilities, technical equipment, and practical training environments. These are resource-intensive but essential for delivering quality education aligned with our core mandate.
