Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe Matriculation Ceremony

Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, in affiliation with the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, held its 29th and 45th Matriculation Ceremony on Friday, 15th May 2026.

The ceremony commenced with the opening prayer offered by Reverend Fr. Dr. Henry Eke.

The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe, Prof. Ndirika, delivered a welcome address. He congratulated the newly admitted students and urged them to shun cultism and all forms of social vices, while making optimal use of the learning facilities in the College.

Thereafter, Prof. G.C. Nji, Dean of Education, University of Nigeria Nsukka, read the Vice-Chancellor’s address. The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the matriculants and charged them to uphold discipline, reject all forms of misconduct, and take full advantage of the academic opportunities available to them.

Mrs. Nkem Mgbemene, who represented the Registrar of the University of Nigeria Nsukka, administered the Oath of Allegiance on the Degree matriculants. Afterwards, Prof. K.O. Usman, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), University of Nigeria Nsukka, who represented the Vice-Chancellor, formally admitted the Degree students into the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Similarly, the Acting Registrar of NOCEN, Mrs. Edith Nwoye, administered the Oath of Allegiance on the NCE matriculants. The Provost, Prof. Ndirika, then formally admitted the NCE students into Nwafor Orizu College of Education Nsugbe.

The occasion was further enriched with a special musical rendition by the Music Department and a beautiful cultural dance performance by the Igbo Department.

The ceremony concluded with the closing prayer offered by Revd. Canon Christian Chidiebele Ifeonu.

This significant milestone officially welcomed the fresh students into the academic communities of both institutions. The College and the University extend heartfelt congratulations to all the 29th and 45th matriculants. We wish them a disciplined, productive, and successful academic journey filled with excellence and outstanding accomplishments.

*FINAL OPPORTUNITY TO REGISTER FOR THE 2026 TRCN PQEI EXAMINATION*

The Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN) Unit, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, hereby informs all eligible candidates that the registration period for the 2026 TRCN Professional Qualifying Examination Integrated (PQEI) has been extended.

All prospective candidates are advised to visit the College TRCN Unit for registration with their National Identification Number (NIN) and two recent passport photographs.

The examination date will be communicated in due course.

PROFESSOR NDIRIKA ENGAGES NOCEN STAFF

On Wednesday, 6th May, 2026, the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Professor Victor Ifeanyi Obiora Ndirika, held an interactive session with members of staff of the College.

The session was engaging and deeply meaningful. The Provost and staff had an insightful conversation centred on college growth, staff welfare, capacity building, and student education.

In his remarks, Professor Ndirika extended heartfelt gratitude to the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for giving him the privilege to serve the institution. He stated in his address that his vision is for NOCEN to become an international centre of excellence in education and one of the best colleges of education in the world, through high-quality training and research programmes that will produce highly skilled manpower for national educational development within the next three years.

He outlined key strategies, including:

- Transitioning the college into a full-fledged degree-awarding institution
- Reviewing and modernizing academic curricula to meet global standards
- Strengthening staff capacity through continuous professional development
- Upgrading infrastructure and promoting ICT-driven teaching and learning
- Enhancing research, collaborations, and global visibility
- Establishing strong quality assurance systems
- Promoting transparency, accountability, and zero tolerance for corruption

There was robust interactive dialogue during the question-and-answer session, which helped bridge the gap between the Provost’s vision and staff understanding. The interaction also highlighted complex administrative and bureaucratic bottlenecks, paving the way for greater inclusion, transparency, and trust-building.

In her vote of thanks, Dr. Ifeoma Orakwe commended Professor Ndirika for his passion and commitment to repositioning the College. She expressed confidence that, with the support of staff, he would successfully drive the conversion of NOCEN to a full-fledged university.

On Tuesday, 5th May 2026, the Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Professor Victor Ifeanyi Ndirika, met with the Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ndu Azubuike, and the Executive of the Students Union Government (SUG).

Dr. Azubuike, in his address, congratulated the Provost on his appointment and stated that the visit was to enable the SUG Executive to air their views on pressing issues.

The SUG President, Comrade Victor Chibuike Ebozue, highlighted issues such as the Union’s financial challenges, the need to enhance hostel facilities, securing the campuses, the provision of a bus, and improved strategic communication between the student body and College management.

Professor Ndirika, in his remarks, recognized Dr. Azubuike collegial leadership, and dedication.

He commended the student union leaders for demonstrating maturity and purposeful student unionism.

Professor Ndirika further stated that students are important stakeholders in the College system and that the Institution’s Management appreciates this fact. He promised to attend to their requests.

Handover Tour at NOCEN

Today, the outgoing Provost, Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, warmly received and conducted the new Provost, Prof. Ifeanyi Obiora Ndirika, on a comprehensive tour of the College.

The handover tour provided the new Provost with firsthand insight into the various departments, facilities, and ongoing projects across the institution. It was a significant moment marked by smooth transition, shared vision, and commitment to the continued growth and development of Nwafor Orizu College of Education.

NOCEN HOSTS TRANSFORMATIVE AI EDUCATORS’ TRAINING FOR FUTURE-READY TEACHING

On Monday,27th April,2026,Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), took a significant step toward digital transformation as staff and educators participated in the AI Teachers’ Training organized in collaboration with Mind the Gap Skill Development and Youth Foundation.

Representing the Provost, Dr. Justina C. Anyadiegwu, Dr. Uche Achebe delivered the opening remarks. She charged participants to embrace Artificial Intelligence as a vital tool shaping the future of work and education. She emphasized that AI is no longer optional but essential for educators who desire to remain relevant in today’s rapidly evolving digital world.

The training exposed participants to practical knowledge on Artificial Intelligence, its applications in teaching and learning, and how educators can leverage AI tools to improve classroom delivery, productivity, creativity, and problem-solving.

Discussions also highlighted the responsible use of AI, its opportunities, and emerging challenges in education.

Participants described the session as enlightening, timely, and impactful, reaffirming NOCEN’s commitment under the leadership of the Provost, Dr. Justina C. Anyadiegwu, to producing digitally competent and future-ready educators.

The training marks another bold step in positioning NOCEN at the forefront of innovation-driven teacher education in Nigeria.

*GOVERNOR SOLUDO APPOINTS PROFESSOR IFEANYI OBIORA NDIRIKA AS PROVOST OF NWAFOR ORIZU COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, NSUGBE*

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has appointed Professor Victor Ifeanyi Obiora Ndirika, a renowned Agricultural Engineer and eminent scholar, as the new Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe.

Before his new appointment as provost, Professor Ndirika was a professor in the Department of Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

As a top-grade engineer, lecturer, administrator, and researcher who has authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and publications in reputable journals, Professor Ndirika brings much experience to his new role.

Professor Ndirika is expected to lead Nwafor Orizu College of Education to a whole new era of all-round excellence in producing world-class, modern teachers for Anambra State and beyond.

ADVANCING DIGITAL EXCELLENCE AT NOCEN

The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, has reaffirmed her commitment to positioning the College to produce digitally competent, future-ready teachers in Nigeria.

This commitment was made during the completion of the E-Don Sim Pro Software and QR Interactive Board training held on Thursday, April 23, 2026. The training was sponsored by the TETFund 2025 Zonal Intervention.

In her remarks, Dr. Anyadiegwu emphasized the need to leverage technology to enhance teaching and learning. She stated:

“We need to upscale our knowledge and skills to remain relevant and become better teachers. Technology helps teachers spend less time on paperwork and more time on learning for professional development, while students engage in critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy.”

The programme, which took place at the College’s Smart Teaching and Learning Laboratory, hosted academic staff from all departments, ICT personnel, and students. Participants engaged in hands-on simulations, mastering real-time digital annotation and strategic learning modules.

Dr. Amaka Okafor, the Coordinator, acknowledged Dr. Anyadiegwu’s efforts in aligning NOCEN fully with the Anambra State Government’s Smart Education Reform under the visionary leadership of Governor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR.

She further stated:

“By equipping our staff with these 21st-century tools, we are ensuring that our pedagogical standards remain at the global forefront. A huge thank you to the College Management and TETFund for making this vision reality!”

PRESS STATEMENT

GOVERNOR SOLUDO APPOINTS DR. JUSTINA ANYADIEGWU AS CHAIRMAN, ANAMBRA STATE UNIVERSAL BASIC EDUCATION BOARD (ASUBEB)

The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has appointed Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu as the Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB).

Currently the Provost, Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe, Dr. Anyadiegwu is a foremost English Language lecturer with over 30 years experience, having taught at the primary, secondary and tertiary education levels in Nigeria. Holding requisite qualifications such as B.Ed. LANGUAGES Arts/English from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, M.A. English Language and Ph.D. English Language and Literature from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka. She is an Applied Linguist with emphasis on active learning strategies and inclusive language education.

She was a consultant trainer for the British Council between 2012 and 2014 on Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) and Teaching Knowledge Test. She is also a Master Trainer for the British Council’s Strengthening Teachers’ English Proficiency (STEP) aimed at inculcating the mastery of classroom English to Basic Education teachers in Nigeria.

A vastly experienced academician, Dr. Nwadiegwu consulted for teacher development programmes organised by the Universal Basic Education Commission, Anambra State, Nigeria in 2012 during which she facilitated the Oral English aspect of teaching phonics and phonemic awareness to Basic Education teachers. This greatly helped in equipping them with skills in teaching word recognition, pronunciation and reading fluency.

Dr. Justina Chinyere Anyadiegwu is expected to leverage her extensive experience as a renowned teacher, linguist, and administrator to help transform the universal basic education system in Anambra State.
