The Senate of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara,Kogi State, has approved stringent disciplinary measures against three students found culpable of various acts of misconduct, following the consideration of reports from the University’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee.

The decisions were taken at the 33rd Regular Meeting of the University Senate held on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, where the Committee’s reports on the cases were considered.

In one of the cases, Samuel Asipita David, a 300Level student of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, with Matric Number 24L1EE2964, was expelled from the University with immediate effect over his involvement in a case of fighting involving students and for providing false information to the Students’ Disciplinary Committee during his initial appearance.

According to the letter conveying the decision, Senate found him culpable of the offences and approved his expulsion in accordance with Section 7.2, Subsection 33 of the Students’ Handbook, Second Edition (as amended, 2025).

In two separate cases involving students of the Faculty of Law, Senate approved rustication for one academic session.

The first affected student, a 200 Level, Abdullahi Zeinulabideen Ozovehe, of the Department of Common Law, with Matric Number 25L1LW4928, was found culpable of tampering with a CCTV camera at the Faculty of Law.

Consequently, Senate approved his rustication for one session with immediate effect, pursuant to the relevant provisions of the Students’ Handbook and the Confluence University of Science and Technology, Osara Law, 2020

Similarly, Olumide Miracle Eniola, also 200 level student of the Department of Common Law, Faculty of Law, with Matric Number,25L1LW4927 , was rusticated for one academic session after being found culpable of an offence involving placing her legs on a male student’s lap.

The sanction was imposed in accordance with relevant provisions of the Students’ Handbook and the CUSTECH Law, 2020.
The University’s disciplinary decisions followed the established process under which the affected students appeared before the Students’ Disciplinary Committee for investigation, after which the Committee submitted its reports to Senate for consideration.

The Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Kogi Electricity Regulatory Commission (KERC), Engr. Ibrahim Sunday Abdulwaris, has paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH)Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, as part of efforts to strengthen institutional collaboration and promote knowledge sharing in the energy sector.

The visit, which took place on Wednesday, September 30th, 2026, at the Vice-Chancellor’s office in Osara, provided an avenue for both institutions to explore areas of mutual interest, particularly in energy research, regulation, policy studies, innovation and industry-academia collaboration.

Receiving the KERC delegation, the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, commended the Commission for initiating the engagement, describing it as an opportunity to deepen collaboration between the University and the electricity regulatory institution.

Prof. Asipita assured the Commission of CUSTECH’s readiness to support initiatives capable of contributing to the development of Kogi State, stressing that the University would be willing to collaborate with KERC in areas that could produce practical solutions to challenges confronting the State.

He noted that the partnership would also expose CUSTECH students and researchers to valuable industrial knowledge and practical experience from the electricity regulatory sector.

Earlier in his presentation, the Chairman and CEO of KERC, Engr. Ibrahim Sunday Abdulwaris, said the Commission was committed to promoting sanity, efficiency and improved service delivery in the electricity sector for consumers across Kogi State.

Engr. Abdulwaris expressed the Commission’s interest in collaborating with CUSTECH to advance research and knowledge development in the energy sector.

According to him, the partnership would create opportunities for joint energy research and provide a platform for CUSTECH to develop into a centre of excellence for the study of energy regulation and policy.

He emphasised the importance of bringing academia and industry together to address emerging challenges in the electricity sector, noting that such collaboration would enhance knowledge exchange and contribute to the development of practical solutions for the benefit of electricity consumers and the State.

𝐂𝐔𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐂𝐇 𝐎𝐬𝐚𝐫𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐧 ₦𝟒𝐦 𝐚𝐭 𝐊𝐨𝐠𝐢 𝐈𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐇𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐧

Students of the fastest growing university, Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, have made a strong mark at the inaugural Kogi Innovation Hackathon 2026, winning a combined ₦4 million in prize money for innovative technology solutions addressing real-world challenges.

The competition, held on Saturday, September 26th, 2026, in Lokoja, was organised by KINHUB and endorsed by the Kogi State Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology. It brought together students, innovators, entrepreneurs and technology enthusiasts from across the state.

CUSTECH students emerged among the leading performers, with their projects demonstrating practical applications of emerging technologies in agriculture, healthcare, education, Internet of Things (IoT), robotics, drones and digital communication.

Sadiq Mujidat Onize of Mechatronics Engineering Department and Alason Emmanuel Ayomide of Computer Engineering Department, won ₦2 million for their Smart Farm & Storage Anti-Theft System, an innovation designed to help farmers safeguard harvested crops and stored agricultural produce against theft.

Similarly, Raji Ezekiel Onimise of Mechatronics Engineering Department, won ₦1.5 million for a drone-based medical equipment delivery solution aimed at improving the transportation of essential medical supplies.

Another CUSTECH team, led by Musa Mariam Ize of Software Engineering Department, showcased Study Rout, an application designed to support students in their academic activities.

Other innovations presented by CUSTECH students included CUSTECH AirWave, a campus micro-broadcasting and information system developed by Yahaya John Sufyan of Information Technology, and Smart Lecture, an IoT-enabled lecture timetable display and automated lecturer notification system developed by Abubakar Biliqies Oyiza and her team.

Speaking at the event, the CUSTECH representative and mentor, Mr Abdulrahman Raji, an AI and Robotics Engineer, commended the students for their outstanding performance, noting that they had undergone only about two weeks of intensive preparation for the competition.

He also appreciated the Vice-Chancellor, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, for approving the students’ participation, as well as the Director of Academic Planning, Pharm. Muhammed A. Asuku, for supporting and encouraging the initiative.

The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has announced an adjustment to the resumption dates for fresh and returning students for the 2026/2027 academic session.

In a circular dated September 25th, 2026, and signed by the Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Glory Ojochogu Yakubu, the University explained that the adjustment was necessitated by unforeseen technical glitches and logistical challenges and is aimed at ensuring seamless administrative preparations for the new academic session.

Under the new arrangement, fresh students comprising 100 Level and Direct Entry students will now resume on Monday, October 12th, 2026, instead of the earlier date of September 28th, 2026.

Similarly, returning students from 200 Level and above will resume on Monday, October 19th, 2026, representing a three-week extension from the original resumption date.

The University further announced that the regular registration deadline has been extended to Friday, November 13th, 2026, while late registration will run from Saturday, November 14thto Monday, November 23rd, 2026, with the statutory late registration fee of ₦10,000.

CUSTECH advised fresh students to commence screening, physical documentation and online course registration immediately upon resumption, while returning students may continue with fee payment and course registration through the online portal before their physical return to campus.

The University said a supplementary academic calendar containing the new date for the matriculation ceremony and revised academic workload would be issued by the Academic Planning Unit.

Management expressed regret over any inconvenience the adjustment may cause and wished students safe journeys back to campus.

The Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, has held a two-day maiden strategic retreat for members of its Governing Council and principal officers, aimed at strengthening institutional governance, accountability and effective administration of the young university.

The retreat, held from Monday, September 21 to Tuesday, September 22, 2026, at Hawthorn Suites, Abuja, was themed “The Governing Council of State-Owned Universities: Whither?”

Declaring the retreat open, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, CUSTECH, Emeritus Professor Olu Obafemi, NNOM, said the retreat was designed to equip members of the pioneer Governing Council with the requisite knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities and complexities of university governance.

He noted that as a young and rapidly developing institution, CUSTECH required a Governing Council that was adequately prepared to provide strategic direction and effective oversight for the university's growth and development.

The retreat featured presentations by distinguished scholars and professionals on critical issues relating to university governance, quality assurance, accountability and stakeholder relations.

The first resource person, Emeritus Professor Atubokiki Ajienka, former 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, delivered a paper titled “The Role of Governing Council in the Effective Governance of Universities.”

The second speaker, Emeritus Professor Funmi Bickersteth, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, delivered a virtual presentation on “Essential Elements for Harmonious Working Relationships Between Council and Various Stakeholders.”

Also speaking at the retreat, Mrs Efe F. Ehioghae, representing the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), presented a paper on “NUC Regulatory Framework and Quality Assurance in University Administration.”

On the second day of the retreat, members of the Governing Council received two additional lectures focused on funding, oversight, transparency and accountability in the university system.

The North-Central Zonal Coordinator of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Kor Leticia Kpenbeen, presented a paper titled “Quo Vadis: TETFund Interventions and Council Oversight.”

The second presentation was delivered by Mr. Demola Bakare, FSI, Director, Education Department, Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), who spoke on “Promoting Transparency, Accountability and Ethical Governance in the University System.”

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, commended the resource persons for their insightful and enlightening presentations, noting that the retreat had further broadened the understanding of Council members on the roles, responsibilities and working relationships required for effective governance of state-owned universities.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the Executive Governor of Kogi State and Visitor to CUSTECH, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo, for his continued support for the development of the university.

Prof. Salawu also led members of the retreat in observing a minute's silence in honour of the late former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who died recently.

Speaking during the retreat, members of the Governing Council commended the university management for organising the capacity-building programme, describing the quality of the resource persons and the breadth of issues discussed as valuable to the effective discharge of the Council's responsibilities.

The Secretary to Council and Registrar of the University, Mrs Glory Ojochogu Yakubu, expressed appreciation to the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, as well as all members of the Governing Council, for their commitment towards the successful hosting of the maiden retreat.

CUSTECH MOURNS FORMER KOGI STATE GOVERNOR, ALHAJI IBRAHIM IDRIS

The Vice-Chancellor of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, has expressed profound grief over the death of the former Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, describing his passing as a painful loss to Kogi State and Nigeria.

The Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the Governing Council, Management, Staff and Students of CUSTECH, extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late former Governor, the Government and people of Kogi State, and all those who mourn his passing.

Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, who served as Governor of Kogi State from 2003 to 2011, was a prominent public servant whose years of service contributed to the political and developmental history of the State.

Prof. Abdulrahman, said the news of the former Governor’s death came with a deep sense of sadness, noting that the departure of a former leader who devoted part of his life to the service of his people leaves behind a profound sense of loss.

He prayed that the Almighty Allah would forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, reward his good deeds and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.

The Vice-Chancellor also prayed for divine comfort, strength and fortitude for the Idris family, particularly at this difficult moment, and for the people of Kogi State who mourn the loss of one of their former leaders.

“The death of Alhaji Ibrahim Idris is a painful reminder of the transient nature of life and the enduring impact of public service. While we mourn his departure, we are consoled by the legacy he leaves behind and the lives he touched during his years of service to our dear State and nation.”

Mining Engineers to Honour CUSTECH VC With Fellowship Award

The Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers (NSME) has announced plans to confer its highest professional honour, Fellowship of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, on the Vice-Chancellor of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE.

The announcement was made on Teusday,15th September, 2026, when a delegation of the Society, led by Engr. Anthony Ojile, paid a courtesy visit to the Vice-Chancellor at his office in Osara.

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Ojile said the delegation was at CUSTECH to commend Prof. Salawu for the remarkable developments and achievements recorded under his leadership as Vice-Chancellor.

He disclosed that the Society had resolved to confer its prestigious Fellowship on the Vice-Chancellor in recognition of his contributions and achievements. According to him, the conferment ceremony is scheduled to take place in October, during the Society's Annual General Meeting (AGM), to be held at the Federal University, Lokoja.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor expressed appreciation to the delegation for the visit and the recognition accorded him by the professional body.

Prof. Salawu said he would remain committed to doing his best for the advancement of the Nigerian Society of Mining Engineers, especially the members in CUSTECH, Osara and the broader development of the mining engineering profession.

He also congratulated the Society on its forthcoming AGM and wished the members a successful and fruitful gathering.

The meeting was attended by the Dean of Student Affairs, CUSTECH, Engr. Dr. Shehu Shaib.

Nigerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Gamji, to Build Guest House for CUSTECH Osara

The Nigerian Ambassador to Kuwait, Alhaji Abubakar Sanusi Gamji, is set to construct a guest house for the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, in Kogi State.

The development was disclosed on Tuesday in Osara by the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Engr. Prof. Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, FNSE, when he received a delegation representing the Ambassador, led by the Chairman of Gamji Political Networks, Alhaji Abdulhamid Lawa Vital, alongside the Ambassador’s team of engineers.

The delegation visited the University to inspect and formally identify a suitable site for the proposed guest house, with officials of the Directorate of Physical Planning and Development led by its Director, Bldr. Ismail Adoke, facilitating the site allocation.

Expressing his appreciation, the Vice-Chancellor commended Alhaji Gamji, an Ebira-born philanthropist, for his commitment to the development of CUSTECH and for choosing to contribute meaningfully to the growth of the young institution.

Prof. Salawu described the proposed project as a significant gesture of support for the University, noting that interventions from individuals and organisations would complement the efforts of the University’s Management and government in providing critical infrastructure.

He therefore called on other well-meaning individuals, corporate organisations and philanthropists to emulate the Ambassador’s gesture by supporting the continued development of CUSTECH, Osara.

Speaking on behalf of Alhaji Gamji, Alhaji Abdulhamid Lawa Vital said the Ambassador remained committed to supporting CUSTECH and would continue to identify with projects capable of advancing the University.

He assured the University Management that the proposed guest house would not be the end of Alhaji Gamji’s intervention, stressing that “after this Guest House, more projects will still come.”

He said the Ambassador considered support for education and institutional development a worthy investment in the future of the society.

The site allocation exercise was conducted by the Director of Physical Planning and Development, Bldr. Ismail Adoke, and his team, who accompanied the delegation to the designated location for the proposed project.
