*BACOTHO Shines Brighter: "Light Up BACOTHO" Project Commissioned and Best Students Honoured*

Owerri, Nigeria – June 19, 2025

In a vibrant celebration of academic excellence and infrastructural development, the first phase of the “Light Up BACOTHO” Project was officially commissioned on Thursday, June 19, 2025, at the Baptist College of Theology, Obinze-Owerri, (BACOTHO). The solar lights , generously donated by Rt. Hon. Uche Onyeagucha Esq., marks a significant step in improving campus safety and night-time visibility, and was successfully installed by the college management.

The event also featured the presentation of cash prizes to the institution’s best graduating students, courtesy of philanthropist Dr. Seinye Lulu-Briggs and her friends. The recognition of academic excellence spanned across various academic levels for two academic years 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.

Award Winners for 2023/2024:

* Overall Best Graduating Student: Ogelenye Goddey Nwata

The awards were presented by the Chairman of the Board of Governors, Hon. Dr. Dawari George, who commended the students for their dedication and urged them to become torchbearers of integrity and service in their future endeavors.

The day’s events were attended by College staff, students, and community members who applauded both the infrastructural upgrade and the promotion of academic achievement.

With the commissioning of the solar project by Dr. Dawari and recognition of academic talent, BACOTHO continues to establish itself as a beacon of light and learning in the region..

*Baptist College of Theology, Obinze, Spearheads Global Academic Collaboration*

On the sidelines of the 10th Baptist International Conference on Theological Education & 2024 Annual Gathering holding at Eko Hotels & Suits in Victoria Island, Lagos, the Chairman of the Governing Council of Baptist College of Theology, Obinze, Dr. Dawari George, spearheaded a team in partnership and collaborative meetings with representatives from Warsaw Baptist Theological Seminary in Poland, Baptist Theological Seminary in Ecuador, Whitley College in Melbourne, Australia, and the European Baptist Federation.

Discussions during the meetings focused on various initiatives such as Faculty Exchange Programs, Joint Research Endeavors, Student Exchange Programs, Shared Academic Resources, and Faculty Capacity Building. The successful meetings resulted in the implementation of agreements being in progress with documentation underway.

Those part of the delegation included the Rev. Prof. John Enyinnaya, Rev. Dr. Nkem Osuigwe, and Hon. Moses Uvie-Odeghe.

These partnership efforts mark a significant step towards enhancing academic collaboration and fostering connections between Baptist College Theology, Obinze-Owerri and other institutions worldwide.

Dr. Dawari George, the chairman of the Board of Baptist College of Theology in Obinze-Owerri, Imo State, spearheaded a comprehensive inspection of the institution's ongoing projects and facilities. Leading a delegation of dignitaries and board members on a guided tour of the premises, Dr. George underscored the pivotal significance of the diverse developments underway, focusing prominently on the ambitious construction of a 5,000 capacity auditorium.

Emphasizing the multifaceted utility of the auditorium, Dr. George articulated its potential as a central hub for a wide array of academic and community events within the institution. He also underscored the facility's prospect as a valuable resource for external denominations interested in hosting seminars, conferences, and other activities, further accentuating its role as a pivotal community asset.

In a rallying cry to individuals, corporations, churches, and Conferences, Dr. George urged collective support for the college in expediting the completion of the auditorium and other slated projects including student hostels, lecturers' quarters, lecture theatres, and classrooms. This collaborative effort stands to significantly elevate the institution's infrastructure and overall educational landscape.

At the auditorium site, Rev. Dr. James Olawuyi, the Director of Students and Youth Ministries Nigerian Baptist Convention, extended profound appreciation for the Board's proactive leadership. Commending their foresighted vision for the College, he lauded the distinctive edge that such a cutting-edge facility lends to Baptist College of Theology within the broader theological landscape.

With construction progressing apace, the auditorium is poised for completion in the near future, heralding an imminent era of enhanced facilities at the institution. This milestone marks a significant stride in the ongoing evolution and prosperity of Baptist College of Theology, promising a vibrant educational environment for both students and the wider community.

*BAPTIST COLLEGE OF THEOLOGY COMMISSIONS LANDMARK PROJECTS*

The Baptist College of Theology, Obinze- Owerri, Imo State, has commissioned legacy projects within the institution. The projects, which were commissioned on Thursday, 16th May 2024, included the gigantic dual-carriage gate with a full complement of a security house and its appurtenances, as well as a massive driveway and drainage network within the College premises.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Board of the institution, Dr. Dawari George, noted the importance of the gate to the institution with scripture reference and commended the Board members, staff, and students of the College for their support to the institution.

Dr. George, a former legislator, while applauding the efforts of corporate bodies and individuals in these significant projects, called on Baptist leaders, captains of industry, top government functionaries, and the clergy across denominations to continue to support the institution in other projects of the College.

Dr. George, who is also the President of the Men’s Department of the Baptist World Alliance, BWA, stated that with the commissioning of these projects, the aesthetics of the College environment and the architecture of the institution have been enhanced. He expressed joy that the event was happening at a time when he was serving as the chairman of the board and said that more of these projects would be commissioned in the coming years.

The high points of the event were the cutting of the tape to unveil the cornerstone by Dr. Dawari George and a prayer of thanksgiving.

Dignitaries from all walks of life attended the epoch event including the Director of the Students and Youth Ministries of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Dr. James Olawuyi, the Acting Rector of the College, Prof. Reuben Chuga, Acting Registrar Hon. Moses Uvie Odeghe, Board and Faculty members, students, and visitors.
