Crawford University Industrial Chemistry Students Host Inspiring Maiden Student Week

The Department of Industrial Chemistry, Crawford University, through the Students Chemical Society of Nigeria (SCSN), Crawford Chapter, successfully hosted the maiden edition of the Industrial Chemistry Student Week themed “Beyond the Beaker: Research, Wellness and Opportunities.” to expose senior secondary school students, particularly those in science-related disciplines, to the numerous opportunities available beyond the laboratory and classroom environment.

The impactful program brought together students, lecturers, researchers, professionals, and invited secondary school participants for a day of learning, networking, motivation, and personal development.

One of the major highlights of the event was the insightful career talk delivered by Dr. Onome Ogundaini. In her presentation, she guided students on suitable academic and career pathways in the sciences while emphasizing the strategic importance of Chemistry in modern society. She further highlighted the vital role Industrsial Chemists play in industries and the global marketplace.

To promote wellness and social interaction, the event featured engaging games and recreational activities in line with the theme’s emphasis on healthy living and balanced growth. The atmosphere became even more exciting as 300-level Industrial Chemistry students showcased innovative products they formulated, including water-based emulsion paint, toilet wash, and dishwashing liquid. The students also shared their experiences, challenges, and the lessons gained from practical product formulation.

Participants were equally thrilled by live chemical demonstrations designed to showcase the fun and practical side of chemistry and research. Experiments such as the Elephant Toothpaste experiment, water filtration process, and redox reactions were performed to explain scientific principles and reactions in an engaging and simplified manner.

Crawford University joined LASU Radio 95.7FM in celebrating its 10th anniversary at the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall, LASU Ojo Main Campus.

The memorable event attracted several dignitaries, media professionals, academics, students, and distinguished guests from different institutions across the country.

Leading the delegation from Crawford University was Dr. Joseph Dayo Odigie, accompanied by members of staff and students of the University. The celebration provided an avenue for networking, knowledge sharing, and strengthening institutional relationships within the media and academic community.

Crawford University Celebrates African Communication Day 2026!

The Crawford University Mass Communication Department turned up the energy, as students brought Africa's rich communication heritage to life at the annual African Communication Day!

From the thunderous rhythm of the Talking Drum to greetings echoed in Yoruba, Igbo, Urhobo, and Hausa.Our 100-level students delivered a breathtaking showcase of Nigeria's cultural diversity under the supervision of Dr. Abimbola Oluyemi (the course instructor for years) . The Hausa group stole the spotlight with a powerful presentation that not only celebrated tradition but boldly advocated against early and forced marriage. The Urhobo group educated the audience on fascinating marriage and death rites, while our indigenous news presenters delivered live broadcasts in native languages, including a stunning, organic Igbo performance that left the audience in awe.

Gongs rang, dances dazzled, cuisines were displayed, and drama brought stories to life, all in one unforgettable afternoon. The occasion was graced by the Ag. Head of Department, Dr. Joseph Dayo Odigie, and dedicated faculty Lecturers like Mr. Anthony Olopha, Mr. Opeyemi Awopetu, and Mr. Omojevwe.

African Communication Day is a celebration of who we are, where we come from, and the power of indigenous voices.
