A great decision towards integration of international students in Maastricht!

"Language policy approved:
The UM Executive Board has approved the language policy advocating an integrated approach to student and staff language proficiency. Several proposals will be implemented in the course of the 2013/14 academic year. The existing Dutch courses will sharpen their focus on Dutch culture, new students will receive a welcome pack with a range of relevant services to help familiarise them in Maastricht, and all first-year students will be given the opportunity to follow the B@sic Dutch course free of charge."

It is astonishing, that already an entire year passed by since the last election at Maastricht University. This week, from Tuesday (today) until Friday, UM students have again the opportunity to express their beliefs by voting. Although I am not running myself this year, I would ask all students to vote (Faculty Council & University Council). I am very pleased that DOPE and NovUM Maastricht integrated free Dutch courses in their programs (what was one of our main goals). I am still active in bringing the city and university together and UM can need some strong students who stand up for the students.

Make an informed vote. Do not just simply support the vote chasing students. Vote for the students, you trust in expressing your viewpoints best.

Now you have to chance to give power to the students by voting for their representatives.
Show the university that you matter!

Hello U.
It was an exciting year and I am really thankful for all the support and opportunities I had. However, I will not candidate for Faculty or University Council this year.
This does not mean that I will leave student representation. I am now work together with the city Maastricht, the University and the Province Limburg on how to get student input at these levels.
UMatter was a great experience! I will keep the website www.UMatter.eu running and will wait until the next group is interested in taking over UMatter.

Good news for everyone bothered by the super-crowded libraries before exams! 181 new study spaces in the SSC and 72 in Randwyck are on its way!

Voor het einde van het jaar zullen er 181 nieuwe studieplekken in het studentenservicecentrum (Bonnefantenklooster) worden ingericht. Een half jaar later komen er nog 72 plaatsen bij in de universiteitsbibliotheek Randwijck. Daarmee, zo zegt de directeur van de universiteitsbibliotheek Ingrid Wijk, ...

This year we didn't get a seat in the councils (more detailed information I just requested). Anyhow, I am proud that we took the step to built something up in what we belief in.
During the campaign we kept "Inform, not Impose" and we decided already in advance that it is for us more important to do it from the beginning in a way we think it should be rather than to chaise some seats armed with laptops.
It were exciting 83 until today. I hope that the elected candidates will do their best and I personally will stay active ;)
