My father, the Viking? 🪓🛡️ (Spoiler: He preferred science over battle-axes)
Growing up, I always knew my father, Ola Grimsby, was a towering figure—both literally at 190 cm (6'3") and as a pioneer in manual therapy. But a battle-axe-wielding, horn-helmeted Viking? That’s a new one, even for me.
Recently, one of our brilliant (and clearly highly creative!) OGI instructors, Jojo Sayson, shared this epic AI-generated image of our 'founding father.'
I love it. But as his son, and now CEO of the Ola Grimsby Institute, I have to let you in on a little secret: Ola would probably roll his eyes at this. 😉
Throughout his entire career, my father fought a relentless battle against one specific thing: dogmatic hero-worship. He never wanted blind followers or 'gurus.' Instead, he spent decades working tirelessly to replace myth with solid, evidence-based science and clinical reasoning. He wanted to build independent, critical thinkers—not a clan of loyal warriors.
Ola has been enjoying a well-deserved retirement for years now, but his legacy of relentless exploration still guides us. We Norwegians might have a reputation for being understated, preferring to let our clinical results do the talking rather than shouting from the rooftops. But don't mistake our calm nature for a lack of fire—our passion for clinical precision and cutting-edge science is as fierce as it gets.
So, while we won’t be trading our clinic scrubs for Viking armor anytime soon, we love that our OGI family has the humor to keep things fun.
Here's to the myths that inspire us, the science that guides us, and the retired Viking who started it all.
What do you think? Does the Viking look suit him, or should we stick to the textbooks? 📖👇
(PS: Speaking of the science that guides us—we are in the final stages of enrollment for our upcoming Fellowship. If you want to elevate your clinical reasoning to the highest level, check out the direct link in the comments below! 👇)
