Welcome to the Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Tromsø, a vibrant and dynamic organization committed to creating unforgettable experiences for exchange students during their stay in Tromsø. As one of the over 500 ESN sections across Europe, our primary mission is to foster a sense of community and connection between local and international students, making their time at UiT (University of Tromsø) as enjoyable and enriching as possible. The nonprofit Rissa Citizen Science and the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA) are partnering on a research project to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of Northern Nights tourism in Tromsø, with a particular focus on campfires.

One part of this project is to engage travelers in mapping campfires and restoring nature in locations used by Northern Lights hunters.

Join us for a day trip around Kvaløya (the Whale Island), and volunteer to map and remove campfires while exploring fjords, mountains and beaches in some of the most beautiful areas around Tromsø

✨ Learn the art of Persian cuisine ✨

Join us for a hands-on cooking class hosted by our friend Mahdis where you’ll discover the flavors of herbs and spices that make Persian food so unique.

Together, we’ll prepare a delicious vegetarian dish Ashreshte - a persian dish of warmth, friendship and togetherness, and then enjoy it as a shared meal (please contact us if you want a vegan option).

Join us for a delightful evening of cultural exchange and culinary adventure at the Sámi Cultural House Árdna! 🍕🌮🥟🍙🥗🍪🧁

We invite students from all around the world to come together and showcase their diverse backgrounds through the universal language of food. Our International Potluck Dinner promises to be a memorable and delicious experience.

🌍 Culinary Exploration
Each team (maximum 5 people) will represent specific country/region/culture. To ensure a rich variety of dishes, only one team per nationality is allowed.

If you have a larger group or questions, feel free to contact us - we’ll find a solution ☺️

🤝 Cultural Exchange
While enjoying the food, you’ll have the opportunity to meet fellow students, share stories from your home countries, and learn about different cultures in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

📋 Event Rules
- Each team should bring one dish suitable for sharing with other attendees;
- Please bring a short description of the dish and its cultural significance;
- When registering, indicate your country, so we can prepare flags to place next to your dishes.

📝 How to Register
One person per team should register and specify the nationality and dish you are bringing;

One registration can include up to 5 people.

💰 Grocery Compensation
To support participants preparing dishes, we offer grocery compensation (for a team as a whole) after the event:
- 100 NOK for a team with regular participants;
- 200 NOK for a team with at least 2 ESNcard holders in the team.

‼️Compensation will be provided after the event upon participation only for teams that show up and brought a dish.

🌿🥾 Conservation Hike with Rissa Citizen Science 🏔️

Join us for a conservation hike to Fløya together with our friends from Rissa Citizen Science! 🌱
Rissa Citizen Science is partnering with researchers from UiT – The Arctic University of Norway and NINA – the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research to explore how we can balance the Norwegian allemannsretten (“right to roam”) with the need to protect vulnerable nature.
During the hike, you’ll get the chance to take part in real citizen science and help researchers collect useful data! 🔬🌿

🔎 What will we do? • Reach Fløya either by Sherpatrappa or the Fjellheisen cable car • Observe how effective different measures are at encouraging hikers to stay on the main trail • Survey hikers as part of a social science experiment • Measure trail erosion using simple indicators

🚡 Fjellheisen is helping us with the logistics and has provided a limited number of free cable car tickets for participants who will not be using Sherpatrappa.

🥾 What to bring: Snacks, water and clothing suitable for the weather.

🌧️ If heavy rain is forecast, the event may be cancelled the day before.
