A brief introduction
Mid-Western University (MU) is an autonomous and public institution of higher learning with the mission to serve the people of Nepal and enrich the global learning comMUnity by extending the advantages of higher education. under the concept of MUlti-university system, Mid-Western University is a state supported institution, founded on land donated by the Government of Nepal. T

he central campus of the University and the Central Administration Office are located in Birendranagar MUnicipality, in the District of Surkhet, Nepal. Although Mid-Western University is still in the making and has a long way to go before becoming fully operative, the University gathers a tremendous political support from the existing parties and above all enjoys wide enthusiastic participation and support of the local people. The establishment of Mid-Western University represents the fulfillment of a cherished dream of the people of this area

Aware of these extraordinary and propitious circumstances, the University aims at promoting the advancement of learning and dissemination of knowledge for the overall welfare of the nation. During the years of study with a variety of dedicated lecturers and researchers, the University aims at helping students to enhance their capacity, promote holistic development of their abilities and personality and bringing them to a deeper understanding of their future role in the society. The University, in the long run, is dedicated to become a Centre of Academic Excellence in learning, teaching and research. Its primary goal is to set up a culture of learning in the country and to extend and spread the benefits of knowledge by providing access to the overall comMUnity at large. The University also aims at establishing a comMUnity of scholars, students and staff in which understanding and wisdom can expand and flourish. Responsive to the particular social and economic context of Nepal as well as the requirements of the international standards in higher education, the University tries to implement academic programs and in-service courses that cater to these needs. Guided by the view to provide quality and job oriented education to the students and link the University system with the comMUnity services, programs and courses offered by MU are designed to meet these requirements and standards in every possible area. Academic programs are developed in consultation with civic, educational and business leaders of the comMUnity, as well as the appropriate Ministries of the Nepal Government. At the inauguration of MU’s first Academic Year 2012-13, various quality programs at undergraduate and graduate level will be launched in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Technology, Management and Educational Sciences followed by Engineering programs from 2014. However, the university remains committed to commence new programs in the fields of Law, Medicine and vocational courses on various areas in upcoming years.
2. UNIVERSITY MISSION
Mid-Western University is an autonomous institution whose mission is to expand the advantages of higher education to the people of Nepal and the overall learning comMUnity, in its role as a Centre for the advancement, dissemination and use of knowledge. The Mission of Mid-Western University can be articulated into four dimensions which define the University as a:
• A Centre of Academic Excellence that promotes quality education with the highest academic standards;
• A source for creation and dissemination of knowledge through teaching, research and creative inquiry;
• A powerful engine for promoting collective transformation, meaningful enhancement of the society, economic growth and sustainable development of the nation and the global learning comMUnity;
• A resource for comMUnity service and outreach, international initiative and cooperation . In line with these principles, the University aims at becoming a Centre of Academic Excellence that promotes the production and dissemination of knowledge, as well as the implementation of research findings for the benefit of the overall comMUnity. Recognizing the international character of modern higher education, the University aims in fact at maintaining programs and standards which are fully comparable with any similar system of higher learning, thereby making it possible for promising Nepali students to obtain quality higher education without going abroad. The highest aspiration of the University is to provide quality education in a way that promotes the holistic development of the students’ abilities and personality, enhances the knowledge of the youth in a spirit of understanding, universally shared principles and dedication for best serving the common good. The University strives to educate students to become committed citizens by increasing their problem solving, leadership and teamwork abilities, and inspiring in them the value of societal commitment, ethical behavior and respect for others. As education shapes human life and the type of society we live in, improving the quality of life for everyone in the nation represents an essential commitment for Mid-Western University. Understanding that a major motivation for students to attend a university is the preparation for a future profession and career, the University aims at bridging the world of thoughts and ideas with the world of practice and action, by preparing skilled and qualified students that are able to assume responsible positions in the society and actively contribute to the national development. To enhance the educational standards, MU aims at establishing fruitful partnership and collaboration with universities and higher education institutions of international reputation, for the overall welfare of both the academic faculty members and students. The Institution encourages the active participation of its comMUnity members in exchange programs and their contribution in joint research projects. To this regards, MU intends to set up in the near future credit transfer schemes for facilitating the recognition of academic activities among its partner universities. The University strives to achieve these ends by pursuing the advantages of a culturally diverse and newly emerging academic Institution, open to the exchange of ideas where discovery, creativity, and personal and professional development can flourish.

3. UNIVERSITY VISION
Mid-Western University strives to be a Centre of Academic Excellence in teaching and scholarship, at the service of the people of Nepal and the global learning comMUnity, by promoting a culture based on dedicated teaching, continuous learning, creativity and cutting-edge research, with the highest academic standards. This Vision reflects the Mission of the University to expand the advantages of quality higher education to the people of Mid-Western region, to the nation and the broader global learning comMUnity, in its role as a Centre for the advancement, dissemination and use of knowledge. Mid-Western University holds in fact the ambitious vision to shape the Academic Identity of the whole Mid-Western Region and the country in general. The Institution considers itself as an agent of socio-cultural transformation and powerful engine for economic growth, innovation and sustainable development of the Mid-Western region, the country and the world that the University serves.

“एआई र डिजिटल रूपान्तरण प्रवर्द्धनका लागि राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोगमा महत्वपूर्ण छलफल”

नेपालमा कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता (एआई) को प्रभावकारी प्रयोग, विश्वविद्यालयहरूमा डिजिटलाइजेसनको प्रवर्द्धन तथा कोइका सँगको सहकार्य र समन्वयमार्फत डिजिटल रूपान्तरणका कार्यक्रमहरू अगाडि बढाउने विषयमा मिति २०८३ साल वैशाख १६ गते राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोगमा महत्वपूर्ण छलफल सम्पन्न भएको छ।

उक्त अवसरमा राष्ट्रिय योजना आयोगका माननीय उपाध्यक्ष डा. गुणाकर भट्टज्यू र माननीय सदस्य प्रा. डा. सुदन झाज्यू समक्ष मध्यपश्चिम विश्वविद्यालयका उपकुलपति प्रा. डा. ध्रुवकुमार गौतमज्यू, सुदूरपश्चिम विश्वविद्यालयका उपकुलपति प्रा. डा. हेमराज पन्तज्यू र कोइका प्रतिनिधिहरूले आफ्नो धारणा तथा योजना प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको थियो ।

बैठकमा नेपाल सरकारद्वारा एआई कार्यान्वयनसम्बन्धी कार्यविधि तथा नीतिगत व्यवस्था निर्माण भएसँगै विश्वविद्यालयहरूमा आवश्यक प्राविधिक जनशक्ति उत्पादन हुने र देशमा डिजिटल प्रणालीको विकासलाई तीव्र गतिमा अघि बढाउन सकिने विषयमा समेत विस्तृत छलफल भएको थियो।

साथै, कोइकाका प्रतिनिधिहरूले दक्षिण कोरियामा एआई प्रविधिको प्रभावकारी प्रयोगमार्फत नागरिकलाई सेवा प्रवाह कसरी गरिएको छ भन्ने अनुभव साझा गर्दै सो मोडेललाई नेपालमा कार्यान्वयन गर्न सकिने उपायहरूबारे महत्वपूर्ण जानकारी प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको थियो। यस पहलले नेपालका विश्वविद्यालयहरूलाई डिजिटल युगअनुकूल रूपान्तरण गर्दै शिक्षा क्षेत्रमा नयाँ आयाम थप्ने विश्वास गरिएको छ।

“Important Discussion at the National Planning Commission to Promote AI and Digital Transformation”

A significant discussion was held at the National Planning Commission on 28 Apr. 2026, focusing on the effective use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Nepal, the promotion of digitalization in universities, and advancing digital transformation programs through collaboration and coordination with KOICA.

On the occasion, the Honorable Vice-Chairperson Dr. Gunakar Bhatta and Honorable Member Prof. Dr. Sudan Jha were presented with perspectives and plans by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam of Mid-West University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Hemraj Pant of Far Western University, along with representatives from KOICA.

Extensive discussions were also held on how the formulation of AI implementation procedures and policy frameworks by the Government of Nepal could help universities to produce the necessary technical human resources and accelerate the development of digital systems in the country.

Additionally, during the meeting, representatives from KOICA shared their experiences on how AI technology has been effectively used in South Korea to deliver public services, along with important insights on how such models could be implemented in Nepal. This initiative is expected to support Nepalese universities in adapting to the digital era and contributing a new dimension to the education sector. “स्वयंसेवक र अन्तरराष्ट्रिय सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन टीम सम्मानित”

मिति २०८३ साल बैशाख १३ गते मध्यपश्चिम विश्वविद्यालयमा आयोजित अन्तरराष्ट्रिय सम्मेलन–२०२६ सफल बनाउन अहोरात्र खटिएका सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन समितिका सदस्य, कर्मचारी तथा स्वयंसेवक विद्यार्थीहरूलाई खादा ओढाई प्रशंसापत्र र मायाको चिनो प्रदान गर्दै सम्मान गरिएको छ। सो अवसरमा डा. विष्णुकुमार खड्काद्वारा प्रकाशित “म बनाउँछु मेरो देश” कविता संग्रह स्वयंसेवकहरूलाई उपहारस्वरूप प्रदान गरिएको थियो।

तीन दिनसम्म सञ्चालन भएको सम्मेलनमा स्वदेश तथा विदेशबाट सहभागी विज्ञ तथा पाहुनाहरूको स्वागत, सत्कार र सम्मानका लागि महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निर्वाह गर्ने टोलीलाई उपकुलपति प्रा. डा. ध्रुवकुमार गौतमज्यू, रजिष्ट्रार प्रा. डा. शोभाखर कँडेलज्यू, सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन समितिका संयोजक डा. यदुप्रसाद ज्ञवालीज्यू तथा स्वयंसेवक परिचालन उपसमिति संयोजक डा. लक्ष्मीप्रसाद आचार्यज्यू लगायतले सम्मान गर्नुभएको थियो।

उपकुलपति गौतमज्यूले स्वयंसेवकहरूले गरेको उदाहरणीय कार्यप्रति गौरव व्यक्त गर्दै पछिल्ला दुई वर्षयता विश्वविद्यालयले उल्लेखनीय प्रगति गरेको र सहयोगी तथा शुभेच्छुकहरूको सकारात्मक भावनाले थप काम गर्ने प्रेरणा मिलेको बताउनुभयो। त्यसैगरी रजिष्ट्रार कँडेलज्यूले नकारात्मकताको प्रभावलाई चिर्दै सम्मेलन सफल बनाउन समर्पित भएर खटिएकोमा स्वयंसेवकहरूको उच्च प्रशंसा गर्नुभयो। कार्यक्रमको सञ्चालन योजना विकास तथा अनुगमन निर्देशनालयका कार्यकारी निर्देशक एवं सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन समितिका सदस्य सचिव डा. विष्णुकुमार खड्काज्यूले गर्नुभएको थियो।

“Volunteers and International Conference Management Team Honored”

On April 26, 2026, at Mid-West University, the members of the conference management committee, staff, and student volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the International Conference–2026 a success were honored with ceremonial khada scarves, certificates of appreciation, and tokens of love. On the occasion, copies of the poetry collection “Ma Banaunchu Mero Desh” authored by Asst. Prof. Dr. Bishnu Kumar Khadka were presented as gifts to the volunteers.

During the three-day conference, the team played a vital role in welcoming, hosting, and honoring distinguished experts and guests from both Nepal and abroad. The volunteers and team members were honored by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, Registrar Prof. Dr. Shobhakhar Kandel, Conference Management Committee Coordinator Dr. Yadu Prasad Gyawali, and Volunteer Mobilization Subcommittee Coordinator Dr. Laxmi Prasad Acharya, among others.

Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam expressed pride in the exemplary contributions of the volunteers, noting that the university has made remarkable progress over the past two years and that the positive support from well-wishers has been a strong source of motivation for further achievements. Similarly, Registrar Prof. Dr. Shobhakhar Kandel highly appreciated the dedication of the volunteers, who remained committed to ensuring the success of the conference despite challenges and negativity. The program was facilitated by Dr. Bishnu Kumar Khadka, Executive Director of the Planning, Development and Monitoring Directorate and member secretary of conference organizing committee.

“अन्तरराष्ट्रिय सम्मेलन–२०२६ सफलतापुर्वक सम्पन्न”

मिति २०८३ साल बैशाख १३ गते मध्यपश्चिम विश्वविद्यालयमा “अन्तर्विषयगत सहकार्यद्वारा कृत्रिम बुद्धिमत्ता र डिजिटल रूपान्तरणको युगमा दीगो भविष्य निर्माण” भन्ने मूल नारासहित मध्यपश्चिम विश्वविद्यालय नेपाल र विरला ग्लोबल विश्वविद्यालय भारतको सहकार्यमा आयोजित बहुविषयक अन्तरराष्ट्रिय सम्मेलन–२०२६ आइतवार सफलतापूर्वक सम्पन्न भएको छ ।

वीरेन्द्रनगर, सुर्खेतमा तीन दिनसम्म सञ्चालन भएको सम्मेलनमा स्वदेश तथा विदेशका विज्ञ, विभिन्न विश्वविद्यालयका उपकुलपति, सरकारी तथा गैरसरकारी निकाय एवम् अन्य साझेदार संघ, संस्थाका प्रमुख तथा प्रतिनिधिहरूको उल्लेख्य सहभागितामा सम्मेलन सम्पन्न भएको हो । सम्मेलनका क्रममा विषयगत सत्र, अनुसन्धानपत्र प्रस्तुति, प्यानल छलफल तथा अन्तरक्रिया मार्फत डिजिटल रूपान्तरणका अवसर र चुनौती लगायत विविध विषयबारे गहन छलफल भएको थियो।

सम्मेलनले बहुविषयगत सहकार्य, ज्ञान आदानप्रदान र अनुसन्धानको स्तर अभिवृद्धि गर्दै शैक्षिक तथा प्राविधिक क्षेत्रमा नयाँ सम्भावना उजागर गरेको निष्कर्ष निकालिएको छ । समापन समारोहलाई सम्बोधन गर्दै प्रमुख अतिथि उपकुलपति प्रा. डा. ध्रुवकुमार गौतमज्यूले सम्मेलनमा छलफल भएका कुरा कार्यान्वयन गर्न सरोकारवाला सबैलाई आग्रह गर्नुभयो ।

उपकुलपति गौतमज्यूले सम्मेलन सफल तुल्याउन मन, वचन र कर्मले समर्पित हुने सम्पूर्णलाई धन्यवाद व्यक्त गर्दै आगामी दिनमा यसैगरी सक्रियतापूर्वक टीमवर्क गर्ने विश्वास व्यक्त गर्नुभयो । समारोहका अध्यक्ष रजिष्ट्रार प्रा. डा. शोभाखर कँडेलज्यूले अन्तरराष्ट्रिय सम्मेलनले विश्वविद्यालयको उचाई बढाएको बताउनुभयो ।

उक्त अवसरमा सम्मेलनको समग्र प्रगति प्रतिवेदन सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन समितिका संयोजक डा. यदुप्रसाद ज्ञवालीले प्रस्तुत गर्नुभएको थियो भने प्रमुख वक्ताका रुपमा निम्त्याइएका बेलायतका प्रा. डा. जोनाथन रिक्स र साझेदार निकाय स्याक नेपालका टिकाराम आचार्यले समापन मन्तव्यका क्रममा सम्मेलन ऐतिहासिक बनेको धारणा व्यक्त गर्नुभएको थियो । कार्यक्रमको संचालन योजना विकास तथा अनुगमन निर्देशनालयका कार्यकारी निर्देशक एवं सम्मेलन व्यवस्थापन समितिका सदस्य सचिव डा. विष्णुकुमार खड्काले गर्नुभएको थियो ।

“International Conference–2026 Concludes Successfully”

On April 26, 2026, the Multidisciplinary International Conference–2026, organized under the main theme “Interdisciplinary Synergies for Sustainable Future in the Age of AI and Digital Transformation” successfully concluded at Mid-West University, Nepal. The conference was jointly organized in collaboration with Birla Global University, India.

The three-day conference, held in Birendranagar, Surkhet, witnessed significant participation from national and international experts, vice-chancellors of various universities, representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations, and other partner institutions.

During the conference, in-depth discussions were conducted on various topics including opportunities and challenges of digital transformation through thematic sessions, research paper presentations, panel discussions, and interactive engagements.
The conference concluded that it has enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the quality of research, while also opening new possibilities in academic and technological fields.

Addressing the closing ceremony, the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, urged all stakeholders to implement the ideas discussed during the conference. He expressed gratitude to everyone who contributed with dedication in making the conference a success and shared confidence in continued teamwork in the future.
Chairing the ceremony, the Registrar, Prof. Dr. Shobhakhar Kandel, stated that the international conference has elevated the stature of the university.

On the occasion, the overall progress report of the conference was presented by Dr. Yadu Prasad Gyawali, Coordinator of the Conference Management Committee. Keynote speakers Prof. Dr. Jonathan Rix (UK) and Tikaram Acharya from SAC Nepal remarked during their closing speeches that the conference had been historic. The program was conducted by Dr. Bishnu Kumar Khadka, Executive Director of the Planning, Development and Monitoring Directorate and member secretary of conference organizing committee.
