“it's revolutionary (to me) to see this outside the patriarchal gaze..." A.Tabak
I say it umpteen times to the girls 'get to know your cycle' so I better practise what I preach right? I've been practising Menstrual Cycle Awareness for ten years now and this is where I'm at, at the moment.....
I can tell the day i change to Autumn (luteal phase), that drop in progesterone when my multi tasking is just that wee bit harder and it's almost like the glow from the edges of my vision grow more stark and harsh......
I know it's Autumn too when Im in my hospitality job and tune into my customer more acutely; their convo or relationship or vibe.....this is a sensitivity I've come to realise! Not just the emotional grumpiness we've been taught - That societal eye roll at PMS.
Yes it's something to attune and tune into for sure!
I know it's two days before my period when I get a night of insomnia (more now with peri). I use to loathe this and toss and turn but now I realise I actually receive on these nights a massive download of info in my brain! Realisations and creativity! Now I keep a journal by my bed and pour it all down, this beautiful yin energy!
And don't even get me started on the power of "Summer" (ovulation) and how Shakti energy has been thwarted & slandered into flirtation and it's negative connotations. I love this time and again it's learning how to use this, not abuse this.
The "traditional"** menstrual story is a brainwashing into such a limited and unhealthy perspective of our menstrual cycle. It's revolutionary to see this outside the patriarchal gaze. Historically men haven't experienced or don't want us to experience the positive or powerful parts of the Cycle.
Learning to tune in is paramount to start shifting the narrative & experience for yourself and in time create experienced guides to support this in the next generation.
** traditional refers here to the European narrative.
