I’m doing some research to flesh out a theory. I’m thinking you are around my age. I’m thinking that you have been “aware” of the overshoot problems of continuous industrial growth since the 1980s. I’m thinking that you have continued in your awareness and concern and that this has influenced choices and efforts in your life. You have made some or even major contributions in some way toward making things better and restoring balance between technology benefit, social wellbeing and thriving nature.

Here is what I’m thinking - you and I are not alone, but we are a diaspora and this means that the effectiveness of all the individuals who hold the awareness is neutralised.

If this theory is correct, then spending any more time trying to raise awareness is futile. The awareness is sufficient. If this theory is correct, then the transformation is most likely to occur through convergence, confluence, nucleation and crystallisation of the transdisciplinary contributions into a discipline.

The AEMSLab has moved to Heriot-Watt University in Scotland. It was a long road during the COVID. The research is starting to come together with interesting results. Florian Ahrens, Paolo Cherubini and Jack Boulton presented 5 papers and 2 workshops at the recent Transdisciplinary Engineering Conference TE2024 in London. In fact, the work was so well received that the team went away with the best paper award.

28 July 2024 Isabel Andrade Beltran successfully passed her PhD exam and today she has completed the submission of minor amendments.
Isabel’s thesis title is: A High-Granularity, Non-Invasive, and Low-Cost Method for Quantifying Panel Radiator Operation (Occupant Heating Behaviour) in Single-Occupant Office Spaces.
Supervisor Sid Becker (Dept of Mechanical Engineering, University of Canterbury)
Isabel ‘s other supervisory team members are Prof. Susan Krumdieck (now at Heriot Watt University) and Dr. Daniel Bishop (now in our partners in Architectural Engineering)
Congratulations to you Isabel! We are very proud of you!!

On one hand, this is an AI generated song and video, where the AI was fed a 1 hour conversation to use as "inspiration". So I find it creepy.
On the other hand, it is probably the first time "Transition Engineering" has been used in the lyrics of a song. So I am having a right LOL over here.

Rise From The Ashes: A Symphony for Earth is our first TLLish song that was inspired on a Friday while letting the creative flow inspire us on what to post o...

This year Script to Screen received 60 applications. Three experienced independent practitioners underwent a rigorous process, compiling a shortlist of 20 and ultimately selecting the nine projects to be developed at Story Camp in November. We would like to thank all the filmmakers who applied.

Story Camp Aotearoa is a residential feature film lab that fosters craft, voice and vision.

The programme is crafted to meet the development needs of each writer and project. Over the week, participating writers and their collaborators workshop their feature film projects with exceptional local and international advisors.

You can read more about the programme and participating team members on our website

Story Camp is made possible thanks to funding from the NZ Film Commission.

Did you know about a new kind of continuing professional education offering from Canterbury University? The first Engineering Micro-Credential on-line is now open for enrolment.

Help build a sustainable future

Global warming, resource constraints, pollution, environmental destruction, and now Covid-19 mean a rapidly changing understanding of engineers' roles.

In times of uncertainty, transition engineers from all fields are needed to help with massive transformational changes required.

Check out these transition engineering online courses, offered by the University of Canterbury.
