Light and Shade: Shaping the Experience of a Home
Natural light is fundamental to good architecture, shaping how spaces connect and how a home is experienced. But good design is not simply about bringing in more light. Shade is equally important, offering respite from the sun and creating moments of calm, contrast and intimacy.
At Jejawi House in Kuala Lumpur, a central light well and triple-height courtyard bring natural light and ventilation deep into a long, narrow terrace house, connecting multiple floors through light, space and movement.
The interplay of light and shadow, together with the courtyard and open staircase, creates a sense of openness and visual depth while bringing landscape into the heart of the home.
