𝘿𝙖𝙮 24 | 𝙐𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙡 𝙒𝙚 𝙈𝙚𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙁𝙞𝙚𝙡𝙙 𝘼𝙜𝙖𝙞𝙣

The final field chapter of the BS Biology major in Ecology interns' OJT journey unfolded in the Municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur, where the team conducted their last soil sampling activities along the Umayam River and Ihawan River for the Environmental Vital Signs: Water, Soil, and Air Quality Assessment of the Middle Agusan River Basin (MARB), implemented by PENRO-LGU Agusan del Sur through the Research and Development Support Unit (RDSU).

Under the continued supervision of Ma'am Wilenne Jane E. Cadenas, with the guidance of Sir Jashny Deo Mojica, ADSSU BS Agroforestry Faculty Member, the interns completed their designated sampling activities and collected the final soil samples for the ongoing environmental assessment.

The team was assisted by Anthony Ampatin, MENR Officer of Loreto, whose support and coordination helped make the final field activity possible.

As the last samples were collected, the interns looked back on a journey filled with *
fieldwork, research, challenges, learning, and meaningful experiences across different municipalities of the Middle Agusan River Basin. Every river, sampling site, and field activity became part of their growth as students and future environmental professionals.

The fieldwork may have come to an end, but the lessons and memories gathered along the way will continue to guide them beyond their OJT. Until we meet the field again. 🌱💚

𝘿𝙖𝙮 23 | 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙒𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙨

The soil sampling journey continued as the BS Biology major in Ecology interns traveled to the Municipality of La Paz, Agusan del Sur, for another field activity along the Adgawan River under the Environmental Vital Signs: Water, Soil, and Air Quality Assessment of the Middle Agusan River Basin (MARB).

With the continued guidance of Ma'am Wilenne Jane E. Cadenas and Sir Jashny Deo Mojica, ADSSU BS Agroforestry Faculty Member, the interns proceeded to the designated sampling site to collect soil samples following the project's field procedures.

The team was assisted by Juanito Jumonong, Jr., MENRO Officer of La Paz, who provided a boat that allowed the interns to safely reach the sampling area. His assistance and the support of the local MENRO team made the field activity possible and more manageable.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 22 | 𝙇𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙝𝙧𝙤𝙪𝙜𝙝 𝙉𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘼𝙙𝙫𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚

Another group of OJT interns had the opportunity to visit the Veruela Eco-Park in the Municipality of Veruela, Agusan del Sur, where they experienced a day filled with learning, exploration, and adventure.

The interns were toured around the eco-park by Sir Angelito T. Rulida, MENRO Veruela, who introduced them to the proper ways of waste segregation, recycling, and repurposing. He also shared information about the different tree species planted within the eco-park, helping the interns better appreciate the site's efforts in environmental management and conservation.

Beyond the learning activities, the interns also experienced the park's various obstacle courses and recreational activities, including the zipline, which gave them an opportunity to enjoy the surroundings, challenge themselves, and strengthen their bond as a group.

The visit was made possible through Engr. Jerry Constancio T. Galicia, Environmental Management Specialist II, who provided the interns with the opportunity to experience the Veruela Eco-Park.

It was a day that showed the interns that environmental learning can happen in many ways—from understanding proper waste management and appreciating local tree species to experiencing nature through adventure and teamwork. 🌱💚

The activity was carried out with the assistance of For. Randy R. Ligsana, Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO); 𝙁𝙤𝙧. 𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙤 𝙅. 𝙃𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣𝙖, MENRO Staff; John Rey D. Segura, MENRO Staff; and Georg Hitman, MENRO Staff, whose support and guidance greatly contributed to the successful conduct of the field activities.

Following the project's standard sampling procedures, soil samples were collected from the designated sampling stations to support the assessment of environmental conditions within the Middle Agusan River Basin. Through this experience, the interns continued to strengthen their field research skills while recognizing the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and local government units in advancing environmental research and conservation.

The interns would also like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to 𝙁𝙤𝙧. 𝙍𝙚𝙢𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙨𝙤 𝙅. 𝙃𝙖𝙮𝙖𝙣𝙖 for his exceptional hospitality and generosity in providing comfortable accommodation throughout their stay in Esperanza. The fieldwork continued as the BS Biology major in Ecology interns participated in another day of 𝙨𝙤𝙞𝙡 𝙨𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙨𝙨𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩
for the research project ᴇɴᴠɪʀᴏɴᴍᴇɴᴛᴀʟ ᴠɪᴛᴀʟ ꜱɪɢɴꜱ: ᴡᴀᴛᴇʀ, ꜱᴏɪʟ, ᴀɴᴅ ᴀɪʀ Qᴜᴀʟɪᴛʏ ᴀꜱꜱᴇꜱꜱᴍᴇɴᴛ ᴏꜰ ᴛʜᴇ ᴍɪᴅᴅʟᴇ ᴀɢᴜꜱᴀɴ ʀɪᴠᴇʀ ʙᴀꜱɪɴ (ᴍᴀʀʙ), implemented by PENRO-LGU Agusan del Sur through its Research and Development Support Unit (RDSU). The study aims to assess the environmental quality of the river basin and generate scientific data to support its sustainable management and protection.

Under the supervision of ma'am Wilenne Cadenas and Jenevib Salas , with the guidance of Sir Jashny Deo Mojica, ADSSU BS Agroforestry Faculty Member; Sir Decson Montil, Technical Personnel of MENRO Rosario; and the Bantay Gubat, the interns conducted soil sampling along the Hibong River at the designated sampling stations: Rosario (downstream), San Francisco (midstream), and Patin-ay (upstream). Following the project's standard sampling procedures, the team collected soil samples that will contribute to the assessment of environmental conditions within the Middle Agusan River Basin.💚

𝘿𝙖𝙮 19 | 𝙎𝙚𝙩𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙎𝙩𝙖𝙜𝙚

Preparations for the upcoming OJT Culmination Program took center stage as the BS Biology major in Ecology interns gathered for a planning meeting led by 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙮𝙢𝙞𝙚 𝙏. 𝙈𝙖𝙝𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙡, 𝙊𝙅𝙏 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣.

During the meeting, the interns discussed the program flow, assigned roles and responsibilities, and finalized the necessary preparations to ensure a well-organized and meaningful culmination. The session also provided an opportunity for everyone to share ideas, coordinate tasks, and strengthen teamwork as they worked toward a common goal.

Although different from their usual field and research activities, the meeting highlighted the importance of communication, collaboration, and leadership in achieving a successful event. As the culmination program draws near, the interns continue to work together with dedication, reflecting on the journey they have shared and preparing to celebrate the knowledge, experiences, and friendships they have gained throughout their OJT.

𝘿𝙖𝙮 18 | 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙃𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙩 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙣

The interns visited 𝙎𝙪𝙜𝙬𝙖𝙠 𝙩𝙪 𝙉𝙖𝙡𝙮𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙣: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙫𝙞𝙣𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙈𝙪𝙨𝙚𝙪𝙢 𝙤𝙛 𝘼𝙜𝙪𝙨𝙖𝙣 𝙙𝙚𝙡 𝙎𝙪𝙧, and listened an informative lecture delivered by 𝘼𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙡 𝘾. 𝙋𝙖𝙨𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙣, 𝙏𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙢 𝙊𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙊𝙛𝙛𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙧, who shared fascinating insights about the Agusan Marsh Wildlife Sanctuary, its unique flora and fauna, and the ecological importance of its diverse ecosystems. The discussion also featured interesting trivia and historical facts about the different municipalities of Agusan del Sur, allowing the interns to better understand the province's biodiversity, culture, and identity.

The museum visit provided the interns with a broader perspective on how environmental conservation, history, and local communities are interconnected. Beyond showcasing artifacts and exhibits, the experience emphasized the importance of preserving both the natural and cultural heritage of Agusan del Sur for future generations.
