[UNITY STATEMENT]
Sara Duterte, hindi edukador! Titser dapat ang DepEd Secretary!

Hindi pa man nahahalal, noong Mayo 11 ay inanunsyo ng magnanakaw at sinungaling na si Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr. ang planong italaga bilang sekretarya ng Department of Education (DepEd) ang running mate na si Sara Duterte. Sa panahong nasasadlak ang bansa sa sistematikong disimpormasyon at pagbabaluktot ng kasaysayan na dulot ng makinarya ng mga Marcos, isa itong tahasan at tuluyang pagsira sa kasalukuyan nang nabubulok na sistema ng edukasyon.

Noon pa man ay may kasalatan na ang pinatutupad na kurikulum sa pagmumulat ng mga estudyante sa tunay na kalagayan at danas ng lipunang kanilang ginagalawan. May mataas na pagpapahalaga sa mga asignatura gaya ng Math, Science, at English, habang naisasantabi ang mga subject na gaya ng Filipino at Araling Panlipunan. Sa pagbabago rin ng sistema ng edukasyon patungong K-12, inalis ang kasaysayan ng Pilipinas bilang isa sa mga paksang itinuturo sa sekondarya. Bukod pa rito, kinahaharap din ng sektor ng edukasyon ang malawakang kakulangan sa mga g**o, klasrum, pasilidad, at iba pang kagamitang kinakailangan sa ikauunlad ng pagkatuto ng lahat ng mag-aaral. Lahat ng suliraning ito ay lalo pang pinatindi ng pandemya at labis na kapabayaan ng gobyerno.

Sa nakaraang dalawang taon, napilitang mag-shift sa remote learning setup ang buong mundo sa pagkalat ng COVID-19 virus. Maraming kabataan ang nahirapang sumabay sa pagbabagong ito sanhi ng kakulangan sa gadget at maayos na internet connection. Tumaas ang dropout rates. Marami sa ating kaguruan ay apektado rin dahil sa tambak na workload. Sa kasagsagan ng mga suliraning ito ay kawalan ng karampatang ayuda at pagresponde mula sa gobyerno. Ang nire-report na tagumpay ng DepEd ay pawang pagbubulag-bulagan sa dinaranas na paghihirap ng sektor nito.

Sa isang panayam, sinabi ni Atty. Vic Rodriguez, na hindi kasalanan ni Sara Duterte ang nakapanlulumong lagay ng ating edukasyon. Ngunit ang kakulangan niya ng kaalaman at praktika sa larangan ng edukasyon, gayoon na rin ang kaniyang “peace and discipline” vision at pagnanais na ibalik ang Mandatory ROTC, ay mga patunay na hindi siya kwalipikado at karapatdapat sa naturang posisyon. Hindi naiiba ang pananaw at pamamalakad ni Sara Duterte sa kaniyang ama na kasalukuyang pangulo ng Pilipinas. Matatandaan ang kali-kaliwang panre-redtag ni Rodrigo Duterte sa mga state universities, ang banta ng pambobomba sa Lumad schools, ang sapilitang pagpapasara nito, at iba pang pamamasismo sa mga estudyante’t kaguruan.

Ang planong pagtatalaga kay Sara bilang DepEd secretary ng Marcos-Duterte tandem ay manipestasyon ng patuloy nilang pambabalahura sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas. Noon pa man, aktibo nang binabaluktot ng mga makinarya ng pamilyang Marcos ang malagim na kasaysayan ng Martial Law. Isang diktadurang nag-ibang anyo at mas tumindi sa panahon ni Duterte. Ang kanilang inaasahang “pagkapanalo” sa nagdaang eleksyon ay bunga ng higit isang dekadang panloloko at pagpapakalat ng kasinungalingan. Nagawa nila ito sa pamamagitan ng kanilang mga makinarya’t huwad na propaganda, at nais paigtingin sa pamamagitan ng panghihimasok sa pormal at impormal na moda ng pag-aaral. Nararapat nating tutulan ang tahasang pangyuyurak na ito sa ating karapatan sa isang de-kalidad at aksesibleng edukasyon.

Tutulan ang panunumbalik ng mga Marcos at pagpapatuloy ng mga Duterte sa kapangyarihan! Protektahan at ipaglaban ang ating karapatan sa edukasyon at makiisa sa malawak na hanay ng masa na lumaban at patuloy na lumalaban sa diktadurya nila Marcos at Duterte!

[UNITY STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF OUR HEALTHCARE WORKERS]

The Philippine Medical Students’ Association (PMSA), together with various student councils, organizations, alliances and other multisectoral formations, express our utmost support for our healthcare workers’ call for an evidence-based, humane and scientific government response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

We call for those in power to hear the demands of their constituency. The government need to act now to bring honor to the lives of those that have fallen, and to preserve the lives of those who are still here.

EDUKASYON SA GITNA NG PANDEMYA
Ilang buwan na ang lumipas simula nang dumating ang COVID19 sa ating isla, ilang buwan na rin nagdurusa ang mamayanang Pilipino sa mga sosyo-ekonomikong problema na nilantad ng pandemya. Hangga't hindi pinapakinggan ang kampanya para sa kalusugan, kabuhayan, at karapatan - ito ay manganganak pa ng mas malalaking problema na ibabaon sa hirap ang sambayanan.

Ngayong Agosto, habang lumalaki ang numero ng mga positibo sa virus, habang lumulobo ang presyo ng mga bilihin at ang bilang ng mamayanan na nawalan ng trabaho, habang patuloy ang pagsiil sa demokratikong karapatan ng mamayanan - itutuloy rin nila ang balik klase sa paraan na hindi kaya ng Pamilyang Pilipino.

Sa darating na Linggo, August 2, 2020, 3 PM - Tara na't pagusapan ang mga suliranin na haharapin sa usapin ng edukasyon. Handa na ba talaga ang gobyerno at mamayanan sa online classes o blended mode of learning, kaya ba tustusan ng mga Pamilya ang bayad sa load pang araw-araw? Ano ba ang dapat na gawin ng pamahalaan para masolusyunan ang mga problema? Ano ba ang magagawa natin?

Hi AMAers!

Let us participate in the efforts of the national government with regards to the COVID-19 response. Hope you can answer this survey conducted by the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA).

"The survey will serve as a basis for the TWG to assess the impact of COVID-19 and Enhanced Community Quarantine, and draft appropriate policy recommendations that will help stimulate the economy, and adapt to the "new normal" of economic activity."

May this translate to tangible solutions that will trickle down to everyone who needs to put food on their tables.
