NO TRADITION IS WORTH A LIFE.
Trivia: Did you know that Hazing originated as far back as 387 B.C. in ancient Greece?
The first documented instances involved abusive initiation rituals at Plato’s Academy in Athens. Hazing is also Known as "pennalism" or "depositions," it was used to show superiority over new students way back. As the time passes by this act is still observed and already killed multiple people. Hazing is a form of physical abuse that can cause wounds, bruises and psychological trauma. Sometimes it includes Physical abuse, forced consumption of alcohol or substances like drugs. It is designed to humiliate or test new members, often justified as "tradition" or "bonding".
Today, hazing is illegal. It is considered a special penal law under Republic Act No. 11053, also known as the "Anti-Hazing Act of 2018". This law amends the original Republic Act No. 8049 (Anti-Hazing Law of 1995) and provides stricter penalties.
We the Gamma Omicron Delta Sigma UNO-R Chapter, promotes peace and we're strongly against hazing. We believe that brotherhood is about love and respect not violence. Respect is gained through good deeds not violence. Hazing is an abuse not a tradition, real brotherhood never hurts.
Hazing has long been hidden behind the words tradition, brotherhood, and initiation, but in reality, it is a form of violence that destroys lives. No tradition should ever require pain, fear, or humiliation. True brotherhood is built with respect, trust, and kindness not on suffering. We must choose to be better. As a leaders, it means protecting others, not hurting them. Being a brother or sister means lifting people up, not pulling them down. By saying no to hazing, we stand for dignity, humanity, and real unity.
