Demonstrating its commitment to elevating national academic standards, Saint Louis University (SLU) actively participated in the Teacher Education-Centers of Excellence (TEd-COEs) Onboarding Sessions facilitated by TEC Executive Director Jennie V. Jocson, held from 1 to 2 July 2026 at the Golden Phoenix Hotel, Manila.

Representing the university were Executive Assistant to the SLU President Joselito C. Gutierrez, PhD and SLU School of Advanced Studies (SAS) Graduate Program Coordinator for Teacher Education and former School of Teacher Education and Liberal Arts (STELA) Professional Education Department Head Dorothy Silva, PhD. They joined delegates from across the country for the two-day high-level gathering.

The session heavily focused on strengthening institutional alignment with the Teacher Education Roadmap 2035 and identifying strategic high-priority intervention areas where the university can actively contribute to resolving the country’s ongoing learning crisis.

The intensive onboarding program empowered the TEd-COEs to step forward as vanguard leaders in reshaping the Philippine educational landscape. Through a series of collaborative discussions, participants dissected contemporary teacher education challenges, explored national priority programs, and aligned with Teacher Education Council (TEC) support mechanisms. By fostering synergistic partnerships and driving pedagogical innovation, the session sought to equip SLU and its fellow designated centers with the tools necessary to champion institutional excellence.

Ultimately, the engagement solidifies SLU’s mission to spearhead quality teacher education, ensuring future educators are highly capable of raising the benchmark of scholastic achievement across the Philippines. This objective coincides with SLU’s strategic directions and mandate of the University President, Rev. Fr. Gilbert B. Sales, to even strengthen promotion of excellence and quality education. As it can be recalled, SLU’s School of Teacher Education stands proud as being one of only 13 newly designated Regional COE in Teacher Education.

This active involvement of SLU is directly aligned with the University’s Core Value of Social involvement, CICM Advocacy of Justice, and SDG 4 Quality Education.
