𝐕𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐲𝐛𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐧'𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐔-𝐃𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐆𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫

Men's Volleyball games tipped off with a high-octane action as the College of Nursing (CoN) and College of Teacher Education (CTE) clashed and showed intensity in the court.

CoN slammed the opening set, taking control of the match with a 25-21 victory over CTE. The latter carried the momentum and got an early 1-0 lead.

CTE regrouped and fought back in the second set, clinching it 25–20 to tie the match at 1–1.

As the games got heated, CTE maintained its composure in the final set and got away with a score of 15-10, securing the latter's victory.

It was a thrilling opener for this year’s U-Days Advance Games, as both teams showcased sportsmanship, teamwork, and the spirit of a true Urian.

CBS GROUNDS — Motivated by a sense of pride and confidence, the College of Nursing (CoN) Women's Volleyball Team kicked off their first match in the advance round of University Days on August 22, 2026 with a dominant 2-0 win (25-11, 25-7) over the College of Information, Technology, Entertainment and Computing (CITEC).

They gained the upper hand right from the start by scoring the first point of the game and then maintained control through strong teamwork, winning the first set. Each serve and each spike made a difference as the team moved across the court like a tight flock, staying in complete control of the court throughout the match. The momentum carried over into the second set, in which CoN took the first point and put the match beyond recovery.

They didn't hold back and thus managed to achieve a clean sweep victory. It is a good beginning for the team, and since there are still a great many games on the schedule, this side is only just getting started.

After a year of mastering your basics in Anatomy and Physiology to Theoretical Foundations of Nursing, from Fundamentals of Nursing to Health Assessment and Health Education and other related disciplines, to integrating them in return demonstrations and clinical duties, the day is finally here.

The day where all of the collaborative effort on building the first stepping stone towards becoming a future nurse comes into fruition, serving as a testament to a student nurse's unwavering perseverance, steadfast dedication, resilience, and compassionate spirit. This milestone marks not only the triumph of academic pursuit, nor an inaugural cohort, but also the birth of a deeper calling - to heal, to serve, and to embody the values of care and humanity.

What started as an aspiration and curiosities, is continuously shaped by the never-ending learning, refined by morals and values, and is strengthened by a heart that chooses compassion every passing day.

The caps are to be placed on one's head. The badges are ready to be pinned. The candles are about to be lit. The white uniforms are ready to depict purity, demureness, and most importantly, a promise of commitment. The extension, 'SN' will be embedded onto names, marking the transition from a nursing student to a 'student nurse'.

This is not a mere display, bur rather a symbol of a responsibility that will be carried with honor. A responsibility to uphold compassion, integrity, and excellence in everything that will be done.

The flames that will be carried today seal the pact of the promise that will be upheld. A promise of undying compassion in service, resilience in trials, and integrity in the noble calling of nursing.

UNDER THE HEAT: A Call To Stay Safe

As the temperature climbs across the bustling city of Butuan, the heat is becoming more than just an uncomfortable part of the day. With classes shifting to asynchronous learning, it serves as a reminder that safety should always come before staying on schedule.

Heat can quickly take a toll on the body. It is always important to drink water even before you feel thirsty, wear light and comfortable clothing. When going outdoors, wearing sunscreen and taking an umbrella with you can also make a massive difference, or if plausible, limit unnecessary exposure to the sun during the hottest hours.

For students, learning may continue at home—but so should our awareness. The switch of learning modalities is not simply a disruption; it is a precaution meant to protect the students, teachers, and the school community as a whole.

The heat may be intense, but our response is simple: stay hydrated, stay safe, and stay informed. Because even when the sun turns up the heat, health should never be put on the sidelines.

𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬, 𝐛𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐛𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐝𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐬

The world of every freshmen is a kaleidoscope of color and smell, and their curiosity serves as a canvas of twinkling stars waiting to be filled up by colors and rainbows… many of them have always believed that there is more to the nursing program than just scrubs, syringes, or mock gowns. Many have always believed that there is more… or perhaps, they can be more.

The Nursing Program at Father Saturnino Urios University offers many wonders for small little oysters like me growing, it takes many to new places they have never reached before. Even when time gets rough, or even when the atmosphere feels like it is about to swallow everyone whole, many still want to find and follow that tingling sensation inside each of them, one that urges the heart to truly find that place they can call home.

Many have always wondered what it would feel like to become an RCY first-aider, what it would feel like to respond to the call of times—to treat wounds and be the hands that heal. The idea of becoming someone full of compassion flatters countless young minds.

Many have also wondered what it would mean to be a member of the PHILIPPINE STUDENT NURSES ASSOCIATION (PSNA), to venture out on a journey of learning, engagement, and service. Or once in their life, have wondered what it would feel like to be part of an organization that connects students from every level like a golden string.

Additionally, the idea of being a volunteer at VOLUNTEER YOUTH LEADERS for HEALH (VYLH) sparks something in many young and growing hearts. The idea of becoming an advocate of public awareness about existing health programs, and the importance of a healthy lifestyle somehow makes many feel like their frowns have turned upside-down.

Hundreds have also believed they could become a member of the AGILA RESCUE GROUP (ARG), to become someone who makes meaningful actions towards the needy during calamities, and most importantly, many believed they could also become someone who symbolizes a stone under a storm—immovable and resilient.

Ultimately, many once wondered if they are capable enough to become a journalist and a member of the NIGHTINGALE’S PEN (NPEN), to become the voice for the unheard… or to become the pen that speaks when the tongue bleeds. Hundreds of brave minds have wondered what it would feel like to become a nursing student who cares, and at the same time, become a journalist whose voice can amplify the youth.

The world of every freshmen is indeed a kaleidoscope of color and smell, and the FSUU Nursing Program and its different organizations serve as the palette that will color those empty canvas of twinkling stars—all of these wonders will eventually lead many to the place they can and will call home, a place of excellence, and is a building block of dream.

That’s a wrap on our First Semester General Assembly for Academic Year 2026–2027!

Under the powerful theme “The Cure Begins With Us: United by Purpose, Defined by Excellence,” this gathering became more than just an event. It was a warm welcome, a clear guide, and a strong reminder for every Urian Nurse that true healing starts when all gather and stand together with one purpose and aim for the best in everything.

The morning kicked off with a blast. The College of Nursing (CoN) organizations took the stage with a lively intermission number that set up the mood of the day, especially for the Level 1 freshmen, who were attending their very first General Assembly.

Right after the performance, College of Nursing Dean Dr. Tarcisio B. Candog Jr., RN, MAN, LPT, delivered the opening remarks. He warmly greeted the new students and made them feel right at home. He then shared the FSUU Mission and Vision, along with the College of Nursing program outcomes, showing everyone the big picture of what it means to be a true Urian Nurse.

Next, Ms. Maria Katrina Costiniano, RN, MAN, the Level 3 and 4 coordinator, took center stage by carefully explaining the prescribed uniforms so students know exactly how to look prim, proper and professional. She also went through the grading system and retention policy, giving clear and helpful information that will guide every student in their academic journey.

Dr. Daisy Joy Carin, PhD, RN, then oriented everyone on how to act inside the skills laboratory. She shared simple but important rules and good habits that will help students stay safe, respectful, and ready to learn hands-on skills.

Mrs. Tina Joy Mante, RN, MAN, followed with the Related Learning Experience (RLE) presentation. She gave a clear and useful guide, especially for the Level 1 freshmen who are just stepping their first step in the college, more specifically in the realm of nursing.

As the afternoon came, the event was far from over. The energy stayed strong. One of the highlights of the day was a small but heartfelt birthday surprise for the adviser of the College of Nursing Local Student Government (CoN-LSG), Mrs. Mary Lois Charity Elicano, RN, MAN. The room filled with smiles, cheers, and warm wishes, showing the caring family spirit of the College of Nursing (CoN).

After the celebration, the RLE orientation continued so students could learn even more. An intermission number was then given by the Level 4 students under the Seniors’ Dance segment, where they danced with energy and big smiles, gathering applause from the audience.

Then came the presentation of the College of Nursing (CoN) student organizations, which includes the Philippine Student Nurses Association (PSNA), Volunteer Youth Leaders for Health (VYLH), Agila Rescue Group (ARG), and The Nightingale’s Pen. They shared their goals, activities, and shared insights about each organizations. It was a great chance for everyone, especially the new students, to see where they can join, grow, and serve.

By the end of the day, the message was clear. These sessions gave future Urian Nurses the knowledge, standards, and spirit they need. From uniforms and policies to skills lab rules, RLE guidance, and the chance to be part of active organizations—everything pointed to one truth: the cure begins with us.

As the afternoon went on, the importance of nursing rules are in building a good nurse's character are highlighted.

Mrs. Tina Joy G. Mante, RN, MAN, explained that every student needs to be on time and fully ready physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Mrs. Mante reminded us that these good habits are the foundation of a student nurse. She also talked about the IR Policies, which connects to the importance of abiding to the Urian Core Values and Nursing Goals. Making mistakes must be prevented or be completely avoided because errors in nursing can put a person's life in danger. She stressed that these rules are very serious: even small acts of dishonesty can cause big problems, let alone the mistakes that could hurt future patients who depend on us.

Meanwhile, the message from Hon. Erell C. Montajes, the governor of College of Nursing (CoN) - Local Student Government (CoN-LSG), is heartfelt and filled with warmth and encouragement. He stated that being a nurse is about so much more than just doing tasks—it is about showing true compassion and living out the best qualities of a human being.

Gov. Montajes also emphasized that leadership takes a lot of heart. He promised to stand proudly by the College of Nursing (CoN), ready to face any challenge during his term.

The event continued with attendance check-in, followed by the continuation of the RLE Orientation.

The afternoon program will spark the event with a birthday surprise for the beloved adviser of the College of Nursing (CoN) - Local Student Government (CoN-LSG), Mrs. Mary Lois Charity Elicano, RN, MAN to be followed by the the governor’s address, a seniors’ dance presented by Level 4 students, orientations from different organizations, the introduction of all Clinical Instructors, the different uniforms of Nursing, an intermission number, and lastly, a recognition dedicated to the College of Nursing- Local Student Government (CoN-LSG), Philippine Student Nurses Association (PSNA), Volunteer Youth Leaders of Health (VYLH), Agila Rescue Group (ARG) and The Nightingale’s Pen officers.

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐥𝐲: 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞 𝐚 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫

Compassion. Therapeutic. Care—these are some of the words that describe a nursing student as they navigate their journey to become competent caregivers of the future, however, reality stretch far beyond the four corners of a classroom, and even further than just learning how to care for strangers as though they were family.

The neatly-pressed uniforms of every nursing student symbolizes the dreams they are trying to conquer, it represents the integrity of a caregiver, and most importantly, it represents the person wearing it. Students are encouraged to follow the prescribed uniform: Plain white uniform with above the knee skirt, black hair fixed in a bun, skin-tone stockings, and a stud earrings. For men, wearing the prescribed uniform with proper hair grooming is encouraged to promote a representable look.

“When you are wearing the uniform, you are also wearing the name of the school.” As stated by the level 3 and 4 coordinator, ma’am Maria Katrina Costiniano, RN, MAN. Additionally, students are also encouraged to practice academic honesty at all times in order to become capable nurses; a nurse who is knowledgeable in the field they are in, and a nurse who is capable of caring for others with integrity and diligence. Becoming a competent nurse also requires having a competent grade, major subjects can only be failed twice. On the other hand, students who fail to meet the passing grades are advised to shift schools or course.

Moreover, the Nursing Skills Laboratory also serves as a haven for hands-on learning to every nursing student. It serves as a bridge that connects knowledge and skills, and it serves as the string that binds the student and the profession itself. Hence, it is important for every student to treat the lab with respect; voices soft, and actions concise.

The aforementioned policies of the Nursing Program guide students to become the best versions of themselves as they embark on their journey in following their dreams. And when those dreams do happen, these policies reminds students about their journey, and ultimately, these policies serve as molds that shape a caregiver.

The FSUU College of Nursing (CoN) is currently holding its 1st General Assembly for Academic Year 2026-2027 at the FSUU Gymnasium.

The program was formally opened with an opening prayer (Urian Prayer), followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

The opening salvo was then led by the student organizations of the College of Nursing, starting with FSUU PSNA, followed by FSUU VYLH, FSUU Agila, The Nightingale's Pen and the Local Student Government.

Setting a thoughtful tone for the academic year, Dr. Tarciso B. Candog Jr., RN, MAN, LPT, reminded the students that true professional growth means developing practical skills and theoretical knowledge hand in hand.

Dr. Candog began with a warm welcome for Level 1 students on their successful and graceful win in Uriantation, followed by an encouragement for the Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 students.

The College of Nursing is making quiet changes. Dr. Candog urged people to widen their perspectives as he revealed a collaboration with an Indonesian university.

At the heart of this shift are the Urian core values, which Dr. Candog emphasized should be naturally integrated into everyday events. He left students with a reflective question to ponder: What are those days you will truly recall and remember as a student in Urios?

Also, he called the importance of critical thinking in nursing, talking about how different nurses face different issues in their careers.
