Look!

The last day of the Subanen Beadwork and Cultural Entrepreneurship Livelihood Research Project held on July 10, 2026 at MSU-ZS HM Hall.

On this third and last day of the project, all of the participants and organizers continued their journey toward the appreciation, promotion, and protection of the Subanen culture and the arts. Their finished beadworks that embodied the Subanen aesthetics, beliefs, and values were curated and displayed, and will be available to the public soon.

On this day, the participants successfully finished the training and finally received their certificates of completion and appreciation, as well as some humble tokens to commemorate this remarkable achievement.

Also, the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) historically occured in the afternoon part of the program. This marked a new beginning of a new and far more impactful collaborations.

The event ended with inundating joy and excitement from the participants during the impression part delivered by Maam Selena Ansalay who spoke on behalf of the participants.

As this project came into conclusion, the entire team extends their sincerest gratitude to all of the partners of this project.

To the empowered and empowering Chancellor of the Mindanao State University - Zamboanga Sibugay, Prof. Sheila G. Magolama, who have been consistently supportive of this project, your unwavering support have propelled the team to execute this extension program excellently. We have honored your vision in making MSU-ZS a future-proof university thru empowering the minds and enriching the communities.

To the Paramount Princess of the Western Mindanao, Bae Labi Sonita M. Mande-Ryde, who has been very steadfast and unquestionably passionate for this project, the entire team is beyond grateful to your kindness, generosity, and compassion. Your commitment in uplifting the Subanen tribe has always inspired the hearts of many. The entire MSU-ZS is always ready to provide the support you need as it is our shared responsibility to protect and serve our communities.

Look!

The 2nd day of the Subanen Beadwork and Cultural Entrepreneurship Livelihood Research Project held at the MSU-ZS HM Hall on July 9, 2026.

On this day, both the participants and organizers immersed themselves in creating different beadworks such as bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, chokers, and leis under the guidance of the Paramount Princess of Western Mindanao, Bae Labi Sonita M. Mande-Ryde. Also, the produced beadworks showcased the rich and vibrant culture of the Subanen tribe.

The creative crafted beadworks will be curated on the 3rd day thru a mini-exhibit.

The first day of the Subanen Beadwork and Cultural Entrepreneurship Livelihood Research Project held at the MSU-ZS HM Hall on July 8, 2026.

This research project aims to equip the participants with skills and knowledge for entrepreneurship to prepare and support them in their livelihoods and business endeavours.

The first day started with a seminar with Ms. Queenie M. Tan from DTI-Buug discussing Financial Literary and Entrepreneurship Mind-Setting to inform and encourage the participants about business-related processes and supports from the government.

This is followed by the Cultural Orientation, Beadwork Introduction and Basic Technique guided by Bae Labi Sonita M. Mande-Ryde.

Further, the training-workshop also promotes the indigenous culture and the arts of the Subanen tribe.

The Gender and Development Focal Point System (GADFPS) of Mindanao State University–Zamboanga Sibugay actively participated in the Training-Workshop on “Research for Gender and Development” held on June 29–30, 2026, through teleconferencing via Zoom. The training was organized by the Asian Association for Interdisciplinary Research Incorporated (AAIRI), an international organization of universities, faculty members, and researchers across Asia.

Representing the University were GADFPS Chairperson Mx. Jai Rondo S. Apilar, Co-Chair Mr. Ramil B. Entana Jr., and Secretary Ms. Nestle Claire Tumampos, who engaged in enriching discussions and capacity-building activities focused on advancing gender-responsive research.

The GADFPS is also pleased to announce that these representatives are now official members of the Asian Association for Interdisciplinary Research Incorporated (AAIRI). This milestone underscores the University's commitment to strengthening research excellence, expanding academic collaboration and international visibility, and promoting evidence-based initiatives that advance gender and development.

Through this achievement, Mindanao State University–Zamboanga Sibugay reaffirms its dedication to championing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 5 (SDG 5): Gender Equality, fostering inclusive research, and contributing to sustainable and equitable development.

MSU-Zamboanga Sibugay successfully culminated its celebration of National Women’s Month with a meaningful program that highlighted excellence, empowerment, and inclusivity.

One of the major highlights of the event was the Juana Know-Quiz Bee and Digital Poster Making Contest, where Senior High School participants emerged as overall champions, securing 1st place in both competitions. The College of Forestry and Environmental Sciences followed closely, clinching 2nd place in both events, while the College of Arts and Sciences placed 3rd across the same categories.

The culmination program was further enriched by the inspiring message of Guest Speaker, Bae Labi Sonita M. Mande-Ryde, Paramount Princess of Western Mindanao. In her address, she emphasized the vital and multifaceted roles of women in society, proudly sharing her identity as a Subana leader of the Subanen tribe. Her message resonated deeply with this year’s NWMC theme, leaving participants motivated and empowered.

The event concluded on a powerful note through the message of Mx. Jai Rondo S. Apilar, GAD Focal Person, who reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to gender and development initiatives and the continuous empowerment of women.
