NEUST COED HOSTS INTERNATIONAL WEBINAR ON AI-ENHANCED LANGUAGE LEARNING WITH WALAILAK UNIVERSITY

The College of Education (COED) of Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST), in coordination with the University Training Department, successfully hosted an international webinar in partnership with Walailak University (WU) of Thailand on March 11, 2026, conducted via Zoom platform.

The event, which drew educators, researchers, and practitioners from both countries, featured three research presentations centered on the growing intersection of artificial intelligence and English language learning. The webinar served as a platform for cross-cultural academic exchange, underscoring both institutions' commitment to innovation-driven education in the 21st century.

The programme opened at 8:00 AM with the singing of the Philippine and Thailand National Anthems, a symbolic gesture of the binational partnership at the heart of the event. An Ecumenical Prayer was offered before Dr. Jo Neil T. Peria, PhD, Dean of the NEUST College of Education, delivered his Welcome Remarks, setting an optimistic tone for the day's discussions.

The first session was presented by Asst. Prof. Dr. Kiki Juli Anggoro, Acting Assistant Dean for International Affairs of Walailak University, who tackled "Gen-AI Assisted In-Class Self-Regulation in a Blended Learning Classroom: A Case of a Face-to-Face Driver Model in an EFL/ESL Context." The study examined how generative AI tools can empower students to regulate their own learning within blended classroom settings, offering practical implications for English as a Foreign Language and English as a Second Language instruction.

The second session featured Ms. Kedkarn Phanwiriyarat, Acting Assistant Dean for Student Affairs of Walailak University, who presented "Exploring AI-Powered Gamified Flipped Classroom in an English-Speaking Course: A Case of Duolingo." Her research explored how the widely-used AI language platform Duolingo can be reimagined as a flipped classroom tool โ€” one where students engage with content before class, freeing in-person time for deeper interaction and application. Both sessions were followed by lively interactive forums that allowed participants to pose questions and share their own classroom experiences.

After a lunch break, the afternoon session resumed at 1:00 PM with the third and final presentation delivered by Ms. Treenuch Chaowanakritsanakul, Head of the Language Teaching Department at Walailak University, who presented "Enhancing Online Language Learning: The Impact of a Role-Playing Game-Based Platform in Thailand." The study demonstrated how immersive, game-based environments can significantly enhance online language acquisition, with findings drawn from research conducted in Thailand's educational landscape.

The presentation sparked robust discussion among participants, many of whom expressed keen interest in adopting similar approaches in their own institutions. An interactive Q&A session followed before certificates were awarded to all three resource speakers in recognition of their valuable contributions.

Closing Remarks were delivered by Dr. Andrea P. Adigue, PhD, Chairperson of the BSED Program of COED-NEUST, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to the speakers, participants, and organizers. She described the webinar as a milestone in the growing academic relationship between NEUST and Walailak University, and encouraged participants to apply the insights gained in their respective classrooms and research pursuits.

The event was moderated by Ms. Pauline Joy G. Tardaguila and coordinated through the joint efforts of key COED officers including Ms. Jade O. Hizon, MSc, Head of COED Linkages; Dr. Analiza B. Tanghal, PhD, Focal Person of COED IZN; and Engr. Mary Joy P. Cruz, Coordinator of COED Training.
