FROM ICCT COLLEGES SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL TO MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
We are incredibly proud to see one of our graduates turn a personal experience into an innovative solution that can help fellow Filipino commuters.
Jullian Rob B. Ong, a graduate of ICCT Senior High School โ Sumulong Campus, is making his mark through PresyoByahe, an Android application designed to help commuters access transportation fare information and other useful travel details.
His journey is a wonderful reminder that the skills, experiences, and values developed during Senior High School can become the foundation for creating solutions that make a real difference in the community.
From being an ICCTian to becoming a young innovatorโwe are proud of you, Jullian! ๐๐
Keep creating. Keep innovating. Keep making a difference.
Once an ICCTian, always an ICCTian!
FOR FAIR FARE! ๐
Experiencing questionable fares during his own daily commute pushed an 18-year-old IT student to turn a recurring transportation problem into a digital solution.
Jullian Rob B. Ong, a first-year BS Information Technology student at National Teachers College, developed PresyoByahe, an Android application designed to help Filipino commuters check transportation fares and access useful travel information in one place.
Ong's idea grew from his daily commute between his home in Marikina and the nearest LRT-2 station. As a student with limited allowance, he experienced being asked to pay โฑ35 to โฑ50 for tricycle trips of less than two kilometers, prompting him at times to walk instead to save transportation money.
The issue became particularly personal for Ong, who is a student with hearing disability. He shared that there were instances when asking a driver to repeat the fare resulted in him hearing a different, sometimes higher amount the second time.
Drawing on programming skills he began developing in senior high school, Ong created PresyoByahe to give commuters a convenient reference before and during their journeys.
The application uses location and mapping technology to estimate fares based on transportation mode and travel distance. It also provides fare-matrix information for different modes of transportation, alongside train information, Pasig River Ferry schedules, traffic conditions, and weather information.
The project particularly aims to help students, persons with disabilities, senior citizens, tourists, and commuters unfamiliar with local fares understand what they should expect to pay.
Government rules support the importance of accessible fare information. Qualified students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities are entitled to mandated fare discounts on covered public transportation services. Current government programs also require official fare matrices or guides for participating public utility vehicles. Tricycles, however, are regulated by their respective local governments rather than directly by the LTFRB.
PresyoByahe is currently available for Android through Ong's website and direct distribution, while he plans to eventually release it on the Google Play Store.
For Ong, programming is more than learning how to build applications. It is an opportunity to create solutions for everyday problems that can easily be overlooked.
From experiencing fare uncertainty himself to developing a tool for other passengers, his project carries a straightforward purpose: helping commuters become more informed about the fares they pay and the journeys they take.
