The vibrant spirit of Calabangaโs elderly community shone brightly at the Calabanga Peopleโs Center Octagon during the program โTataramon asin Talinhaga, Boses ni Lolo asin Lola (Mga Tigsik, Rawitdawit asin iba pa).โ The event, a celebration of tradition, talent, and togetherness, was made possible through the partnership of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Calabanga and the Central Bicol State University of Agriculture (CBSUA)โCalabanga Campus.
The gathering opened with a warm welcome from Campus Administrator Dr. Ernesto D. Doloso, Jr., who highlighted the importance of showing love and care for the elderlyโour living treasures of wisdom and experience. The program was also well attended by CBSUA students from the College of Arts and Sciences, with the active support of program chairpersons and faculty members who came together to honor Calabangaโs lolo and lola. This was followed by an inspirational message from Hon. Enrico Rey de los Santos, whose words uplifted the spirits of the participants. Adding depth to the occasion, Assistant Professor and Director of NeoNormal Agventure, Ms. Nina Francia B. Bergonio, presented the program rationale and her heartfelt HOPES for the senior citizens of Calabanga.
The spotlight then turned to the much-anticipated competitionsโRawitdawit, Vocal Solo, and Tigsikโwhere the senior citizens captivated the audience with their creativity, humor, and passion. Each performance echoed both talent and tradition, proving that age is no barrier to artistry. Winners and participants alike were recognized with cash prizes generously provided by LGU Calabanga.
The program was further enlivened by the SAMBIT cultural group of CBSUA, whose graceful dances painted stories of heritage. The senior citizens themselves joined the celebration with an energetic sing-and-dance number, which was met with thunderous applause and admiration from the crowd.
Expressions of gratitude came from Mr. Francisco A. Rafael, President of the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA), who thanked the organizers and participants for making the event a resounding success. Towards the end of the program, the Mayor of Calabanga, Hon. Phillip Dumalasa, delivered a message of support, affirming the vital role of the elderly in the townโs growth and progress. The mayor also expressed sincere appreciation to CBSUA for its continued partnership in programs that honor and empower senior citizens.
Closing the program was Dean Richard G. Castor of the College of Arts and Sciences, who extended heartfelt thanks to LGU Calabanga for their invaluable partnership in mounting the activity for the senior citizens. He also expressed hope for more years of collaboration to continue honoring and uplifting the communityโs beloved lolo and lola.
Guiding the program with warmth and elegance was Ms. Anna Grace E. Villarico, program chairperson of the Bachelor of Arts in English Language of CBSUA Calabanga, whose presence added a touch of grace to the entire celebration.
โTataramon asin Talinhagaโ became more than just a showcase of tigsik and rawitdawitโit was a heartfelt tribute to the voices of the elderly, affirming their timeless role as keepers of culture, wisdom, and joy in the Calabanga community.
