To strengthen understanding of intellectual property (IP) and innovation processes, the Office of Innovation, Technology, and Support (ITSO) conducted a seminar-workshop on IP Foundation, Patent Search, and Patent/Claim Drafting at the CTE Conference Room on April 21, 2026.
Anchored on the theme โIMPACT 2026: Advancing Research, Innovation, and IP Commercialization in Higher Education,โ the activity was led by Campus ITSO Director Dr. Maria Danesa Rabia.
The morning session opened with a discussion on IP Foundation by Clarin Campus ITSO Director Dr. Margie Avenido, who introduced key concepts and emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property. Immediately afterwards, Ms. Alissa Mae B. Carias, technical specialist from the Main Campus, facilitated the session on patent search, where participants learned how to locate and analyze existing patents.
In the afternoon, Mr. Allan P. Toston, also a technical specialist from the Main Campus, discussed claim drafting. He highlighted proper structure and precise language in developing patent claims. The session was followed by a hands-on workshop led by Ms. Carias. During the workshop, participants practiced accessing patent databases using platforms such as WIPO and Espacenet.
The seminar-workshop equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills to support research development, innovation, and intellectual property commercialization.
