Student nurses from the University of the Visayas proudly represented the university during the Nightingale Quest Quiz Bowl and Singing Nightingale Student Nurses Edition organized by the Philippine Nurses Association โ Cebu Chapter Inc. in celebration of International Nursesโ Day on May 17 at Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
Carrying this yearโs theme, โOur Nurses, Our Future: Empowered Nurses Save Lives,โ the event gathered nursing schools across Cebu in a meaningful celebration of the nursing profession while showcasing excellence, knowledge, and talent among future healthcare professionals.
The annual Nightingale Quest Quiz Bowl also carried the battle cry, โEmpowered Minds: The Nursing Quiz Bowl 2026,โ highlighting the importance of knowledge, critical thinking, and empowered learning among future nurses.
Representing the university in the Nightingale Quest Quiz Bowl were Jasmine Luma-ad (4th year), Quena Kriska Noel (3rd year), and Shekinah Raiza Peรฑas (2nd year) under the guidance of coach Mr. Moneto Casagan. The team demonstrated determination, teamwork, and academic excellence as they competed alongside some of the cityโs brightest nursing students. The competition highlighted the participantsโ knowledge and critical thinking skills in various nursing concepts and healthcare-related topics.
Meanwhile, Marianne Gerliet Cabeleรฑo (3rd year) proudly took the stage as the universityโs representative for the Singing Nightingale 2026 Student Nurses Edition under the mentorship of Mrs. Armida Gutierrez. Through music and performance, she showcased not only musical talent and confidence, but also the passion and heart that student nurses bring beyond the clinical setting.
While the university may not have secured a placing in this yearโs competitions, the dedication, courage, professionalism, and sportsmanship shown by the delegates remain a source of pride and inspiration for the UV community. Their willingness to represent the university on a prestigious platform embodies the values of perseverance, excellence, and service that define the nursing profession.
The University of the Visayas community also extends its gratitude for the unwavering support of Dean Yvonne M. Sevilla, the rest of the faculty members, NSBO Officers, and the 2nd Year Nursing students whose encouragement and presence contributed greatly to the success and meaningful participation of the university delegates throughout the event.
More than a competition, the celebration served as a reminder of the vital role nurses play in shaping the future of healthcare. The University of the Visayas community proudly congratulates its representatives and coaches for their hard work, commitment, and willingness to rise to the challenge. Their participation alone reflects the spirit of empowered nurses who continue to lead with knowledge, compassion, and purpose. ๐ฉบโญ๐ค
