CEBU CITY, Philippines โ The University of the Visayasโ College of Allied Health Sciences conducted a Head Nursing Orientation on September 15 at the Inday Pining Theatro to prepare Level IV students for their responsibilities as head nurses in the clinical area.
With the theme, โStrengthening Nursing Leadership, Clinical Competence, and Professional Responsibility,โ the seminar focused on the essential skills and knowledge needed by student nurses as they take on leadership roles during their clinical rotations.
The orientation was spearheaded by Nurse Wilbert Codilla, who guided the students through the fundamentals of head nursing and its significance in delivering safe and organized patient care. He discussed the role of head nursing among student nurses, emphasizing their responsibilities in coordinating nursing activities, maintaining proper documentation, and ensuring that patient care is carried out efficiently.
As part of the practical learning experience, he demonstrated how to properly interpret doctorsโ orders and accomplish essential nursing documents required during head nursing. These included the medication sheet and Kardex, which serve as important tools for organizing patient information and supporting continuity of care.
The hands-on discussion allowed students to gain a better understanding of the proper completion of these forms and the importance of accuracy, attentiveness, and accountability in nursing documentation.
In addition to the practical responsibilities of head nursing, the orientation highlighted the importance of leadership and professional responsibility in the nursing profession. Through the discussions, students were given the opportunity to recognize the role of effective leadership, clinical competence, and proper documentation in promoting quality patient care.
The Head Nursing Orientation served as an important learning opportunity for Level IV students as they prepare to apply their knowledge and skills in actual clinical settings. Through Mr. Codillaโs guidance, the students gained practical insights into the responsibilities of head nursing and the professional standards expected of future registered nurses.
