𝗛𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼 “𝗡𝗼𝗻𝗼𝗻𝗴” 𝗚. 𝗝𝗮𝗹𝗼𝘀𝗷𝗼𝘀

Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) pays tribute to former Congressman Romeo “Nonong” G. Jalosjos, whose legislative initiative helped lay the foundation for the institution that serves thousands of learners across the Zamboanga Peninsula and neighboring provinces today.

As the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 8193, signed into law by President Fidel V. Ramos on June 11, 1996, Congressman Jalosjos championed the creation of the Jose Rizal Memorial State College (JRMSC). The measure consolidated three key regional institutions: the Rizal Memorial National Vocational School in Dapitan City, the Zamboanga del Norte School of Arts and Trades in Dipolog City, and the Siocon National Vocational School in Siocon.

What began as a state college nearly three decades ago has since grown into a university, serving thousands of students and producing skilled graduates and leaders who contribute to communities, industries, and public institutions nationwide.

The JRMSU community honors Congressman Jalosjos’s enduring contribution to our history and his role in enabling our vital mandate—advancing the four pillars of higher education: instruction, research, extension, and production.

JRMSU extends its sincere condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.

The Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Libraries reaffirmed their commitment to continuous professional development as library personnel participated in the 2026 𝙎𝙪𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘼𝙨𝙨𝙤𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝙎𝙥𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙖𝙡 𝙇𝙞𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙚𝙨 (𝘼𝙎𝙇𝙋) held at the 456 Hotel, Legarda Road, Baguio City on July 1-3, 2026. The conference gathered librarians and information professionals from across the country to explore emerging trends, best practices, and innovations in library and information services.

Representing JRMSU were 𝙈𝙧. 𝙑𝙚𝙧𝙜𝙚𝙡 𝙋𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙞𝙥 𝙋. 𝘽𝙤𝙨𝙦𝙪𝙞𝙩 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙈𝙨. 𝙕𝙖𝙞𝙧𝙖 𝙅𝙤𝙮 𝙁𝙡𝙤𝙧𝙚𝙨, 𝙇𝙞𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙨 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙞𝙥𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙜 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨, 𝙩𝙤𝙜𝙚𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙬𝙞𝙩𝙝 𝙈𝙨. 𝙍𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙢𝙖𝙮 𝘿. 𝙋𝙚𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙤, 𝙚-𝙇𝙞𝙗𝙧𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙋𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙣𝙚𝙡 𝙛𝙧𝙤𝙢 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝘿𝙖𝙥𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙣 𝘾𝙖𝙢𝙥𝙪𝙨. Their participation reflects the University's continued investment in developing competent library professionals equipped to respond to the evolving needs of today's academic and information landscape.

Throughout the conference, participants attended sessions on professional ethics, gender-sensitive and inclusive library services, creative writing and data storytelling, innovative library marketing, and the Data Privacy Act. The discussions emphasized the expanding role of librarians as ethical information professionals, effective communicators, advocates of inclusive services, and responsible stewards of information in an increasingly digital environment. The conference also provided valuable opportunities for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among library professionals from different institutions.

As part of its commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in library services, the Jose Rizal Memorial State University (JRMSU) Libraries conducted a benchmarking activity at the University of Baguio Libraries on July 1, 2026. The activity provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, explore innovative library practices, and identify strategies that can further enhance JRMSU Libraries' programs, services, facilities, and overall user experience. The 𝑷𝒉𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒃𝒓𝒂𝒓𝒊𝒂𝒏𝒔 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒐𝒄𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏, 𝑰𝒏𝒄.
