Mabalacat City College (MCC) and Lone Star College (LSC) in Texas, USA, through their Internationalization Units, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today, June 14,2022, to seal the collaboration and agendas each institute plan to undertake as part of a globalized instruction for their students, faculty, and staff.

Present in the signing earlier today were LSC Vice Chancellor of Academic Success, Dr. Dwight Smith; LSC Chief Operating Officer & General Counsel, Mr. Mario Castillo; LSC Associate Vice Chancellor of Honors and International Education, Dr. Katharine Karuso; and our very own MCC College President, Dr. Michelle Aguilarโ€“Ong, who were all delighted at the idea of finally moving ahead at the implementation of the various programs lined up in the collaboration. The signing materialized at Lone Star College and was virtually attended via Zoom by some members of the MCC faculty and administration.

Mabalacat City College keeps on giving its students global exposure and experiences of international education via such kinds of collaborations with different institutes around the globe. It (MCC) will continue to provide excellent training to Mabalaqueรฑos and nearby towns with such partnerships here and abroad.

Some students and classes at MCC have had the opportunity to participate in virtual exchange programs such as this partnership, and are looking forward for more learnings with other foreign instructors and students. The world has indeed become smaller with this type of exchanges and everyone can truly learn from anyone. Life long learning and education has become boundless and limitless with such alliances.

To Lone Star College, welcome to the Philippines! Mabuhay kayo!

Every 9th of April, we commemorate and honor the brave souls who fought to defend the Philippines from Japanese invaders during World War 2. This day is known as โ€œAraw ng Kagitinganโ€ or โ€œThe Day of Valor.โ€

As the Japanese forces continue their campaign to occupy the Philippine Islands and expand their influence over the Asian continent, the combined Filipino and American forces fought bravely to put a stop to the invaderโ€™s advances. The climax to this defense happened in Bataan where the joint Fil-Am forces staged their last stand against the much superior Japanese forces. Severely disadvantaged, Major General Edward King and his army of over 76,000 Filipino and American soldiers were forced to surrender to the Japanese at dawn of April 9, 1942 despite their valiant defense. The Prisoners of War were to be detained in Camp Oโ€™ Donnell in Capas, Tarlac, but due to the large number of POWs, the Japanese decided to make most of the prisoners walk 140km from Bataan to the Camp. An estimated 30,000 prisoners died due to starvation, exhaustion, or physical abuse from the Japanese soldiers. This became known as the infamous "Bataan Death March."

But beyond the tragedy of the Fall of Bataan, the valor of the joint Fil-Am forces was not in vain. Those who were able to escape capture resorted to guerilla tactics and, along with many of the citizens, continued to resist Japanese authority. Japanโ€™s advance through Asia was significantly hindered enough for the Allied forces to eventually shift their focus to the Pacific Arena of the War and turn the tide. Thus, the sacrifices of our heroes were essential in the bigger context of how events have unfolded.

In 1961, April 9 was declared as Bataan Day. Then in 1987, via Executive Order No. 203, it was officially renamed to "Araw ng Kagitingan." On this day, we salute all the great veterans and heroes for fighting for our country's freedom, and we will be forever grateful to those who gave their lives so that others may live.

IASTE CONDUCTS LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE CLASS
By Edward Q. Inong, LPT, MAELLT

The Institute of Arts, Sciences, and Teacher Education (IASTE) successfully conducted its first limited face-to-face class in MCC Dapdap.

Following the MCCโ€™s guidelines and protocols on conducting limited face-to-face classes in the second semester of the current academic year 2021-2022, the senior students of the BS Biology program, together with their course instructor, Ms. Sarah Joy Dizon, had their FOOD MICROBIOLOGY (SPECORE 104) class in the Physics Laboratory of MCC Dapdap last Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

As a laboratory course, experiments were done by the students like aseptic techniques application, microbial culture preparation for micro-organisms found in food, and food sample preparation for microbial culture.

After almost two years of not going to the College to attend classes, especially laboratory course works, some of the students expressed their thoughts and feelings about their experience on the limited face-to-face class.

Various feedbacks were given by the students like they felt unusual at first; however, instructions were clear and the course instructor is in person available to facilitate and guide them in the use of the tools and equipment inside the laboratory; and that nothing beats hands-on learning or experiential learning as it provides a positive long-term effect in their knowledge and skill acquisition. In addition, the students were surprised and appreciated the school facilities.

Overall, the first class conducted under MCCโ€™s limited face-to-face scheme in the Institute was indeed a success. Hence, the IASTE administration, faculty, and staff hope that this will be the start of students getting back to their classrooms, attending their classes, and fulfilling their dreams.

IASTE IN-HOUSE REVIEW gears up for Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers
The Board Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers (BLEPT) is an examination that tests the prospective teachers' aggregate knowledge and skill thereby confirming their readiness to becoming professional teachers.
However, passing the required BLEPT, takes more than a lot of effort. It entails dedication and unobstructed review of all the academic and professional undertakings leading to the said board examination.
Ergo, the IASTE gives its share of support in helping its graduates pass the BLEPT by offering to all its graduates the IN-HOUSE BLEPT REVIEW which commenced last Saturday, 12March2022, with all the would-be takers from all programs in attendance. The IN-HOUSE BLEPT REVIEW aims to prepare and assist the graduates pass the Licensure Examination through the holistic approach of providing quality and effective mock exam preparations to students apart from giving them once again pertinent information which might have gone unrecalled through their years of education at MCC. The IASTE believes that students learn, retain, and apply information most effectively when they have received personalized education paths and when sufficient resources are made available to them. The IASTE instructors are one with the institute in preparing different materials for the review and conducting on-line assessment in order to see which areas the students are strong at and which need more reinforcement and further instruction through the review.
Dr. Mesa, the MCC-AVPAA was inspiring in his message of graduating teachers with a heartful of values over the cognitive domain โ€“ important as it may. The different heads of the institute โ€“ from the FOSHs to the Dean also gave the more important details of attendance, required performance from the mock tests and the challenge of attaining a passing mark from the exam โ€“ a one hundred percent passing rate and a board top notched from the batch.
IASTE gives its share, may the takers take full advantage of this free in-house review and gear themselves up for the BLEPT.
