IASTE CONDUCTS LIMITED FACE-TO-FACE CLASS
By Edward Q. Inong, LPT, MAELLT
The Institute of Arts, Sciences, and Teacher Education (IASTE) successfully conducted its first limited face-to-face class in MCC Dapdap.
Following the MCCโs guidelines and protocols on conducting limited face-to-face classes in the second semester of the current academic year 2021-2022, the senior students of the BS Biology program, together with their course instructor, Ms. Sarah Joy Dizon, had their FOOD MICROBIOLOGY (SPECORE 104) class in the Physics Laboratory of MCC Dapdap last Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
As a laboratory course, experiments were done by the students like aseptic techniques application, microbial culture preparation for micro-organisms found in food, and food sample preparation for microbial culture.
After almost two years of not going to the College to attend classes, especially laboratory course works, some of the students expressed their thoughts and feelings about their experience on the limited face-to-face class.
Various feedbacks were given by the students like they felt unusual at first; however, instructions were clear and the course instructor is in person available to facilitate and guide them in the use of the tools and equipment inside the laboratory; and that nothing beats hands-on learning or experiential learning as it provides a positive long-term effect in their knowledge and skill acquisition. In addition, the students were surprised and appreciated the school facilities.
Overall, the first class conducted under MCCโs limited face-to-face scheme in the Institute was indeed a success. Hence, the IASTE administration, faculty, and staff hope that this will be the start of students getting back to their classrooms, attending their classes, and fulfilling their dreams.
