SUSG STATEMENT ON THE NOTICE OF GARNISHMENT

The Silliman University Student Government (SUSG) reaffirms its solidarity with the Silliman University Faculty Association (SUFA) in its ongoing efforts to secure just and equitable compensation from the University Administration.

The writ of garnishment marks a lawful enforcement of a final ruling for SUFA in their seemingly never-ending pursuit of just compensation for the vital work it does. The Administration’s subsequent statement on the writ, however, is deeply concerning and falls short of the standards expected of a Christian educational institution.

As an academic community that professes the values of accountability and transparency, justice with compassion, and honesty and integrity, the Administration is called to demonstrate these principles not only in words but in action; clearly delineating facts rather than rhetorically presenting notions that create misimpressions and misunderstandings amongst stakeholders, including the students. Its current perspective regarding the notice of garnishment appears inconsistent with the very ideals upon which Silliman University is founded.

As the representatives of the student body, the University’s primary stakeholders, the SUSG strongly urges the Administration to take full account of the broader implications of this dispute on students’ lives and welfare, as it serves as a genuine threat to student education. From the perspective of learners directly affected by these developments, the University’s claim to prioritize student stability and well-being remains difficult to accept and comprehend with its present stance.

The University’s promise of “quality education” can only be fully realized when this conflict is resolved and when our teachers, our mentors and nurturers, receive the fair and lawful compensation they deserve.

Last Saturday, the kahiVAWCa: Steps to a VAW-Free Community have shed light on the reality of gender-based harassment and violence through informative storytelling and meaningful connection using music and the arts 🎶🎭

We are incredibly grateful to our speakers, performers, and participants for making this event possible. It was an honor to learn and hope with you.

This year’s National 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women and Children may have come to an end, but we strongly continue to campaign and advocate for a better world for our women and children to feel safe and heard 🧡

Hello, Sillimanians! 👋

As part of the preparations for the upcoming Intramurals 2025–2026, the SUSG Sports Committee is conducting a short survey to gather the honest thoughts and opinions of our fellow students regarding two important matters:

(1) the possible participation of Senior High School (SHS) students in the intramurals and,

(2) the preferred venue for the Intramurals Closing Program.

Your responses will greatly help the organizers in making fair and well-informed decisions that truly reflect the voice of the students. This survey will only take a few minutes to complete, and rest assured that all answers will be kept confidential and will be used strictly for planning purposes.

Thank you very much for your time and cooperation!
