On August 9, 2026, the Junior Anthropologists and Sociologists of Silliman, along with the faculty of the Department of Anthropology & Sociology, Silliman University, organized “BALAYANIHAN”, a housebuilding community outreach program in Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental, in support of our faculty member Sir Meljoe Loreto.

We’re grateful to the Constantino Foundation for donating 𝒫𝒽𝒾𝓁𝒾𝓅𝓅𝒾𝓃𝑒 𝒩𝒶𝓉𝒾𝓋𝑒 𝒯𝓇𝑒𝑒𝓈 𝟦𝟢𝟦: 𝑅𝑜𝑜𝓉𝑒𝒹 & 𝑅𝒾𝓈𝒾𝓃𝑔 to the Department of Anthropology and Sociology. The book was delivered by our alumna Dee Nuique of the Talarak Foundation and received by faculty members of the department. We’re happy to have this new resource for our faculty and students. On August 26, 2026, we had the opportunity to hear from our alumnus, Atty. Averill Cubacub, Attorney II at the PNP Legal Service in Camp Crame, Quezon City, as he shared how his background in sociology continues to shape his work in law.

Through stories from his own journey, Atty. Averill gave our students a glimpse into how sociological thinking can be put into action.

Thank you, Atty. Averill, for sharing your experiences and perspectives with us. It was a meaningful reminder that sociology can continue to shape the way we understand and engage with the world around us.

On August 26, 2026, we welcomed back our alumna, Deanne Lois Nuique (Dee Nuique), Head of Social Impact and Community Engagement at the Talarak Foundation, for the first talk of this year’s Balik-Talent Event, "Murag Wala Lang: Subtle Sociological Insights, Real Public Impact."

Drawing from her journey from sociology to wildlife conservation, Deanne shared how conservation goes beyond biology and ecology--to the people, communities, relationships, and the social realities that shape how we care for the environment.
