The first-year BSTM students recently embarked on the Integrated Manila Experience, a faculty and student learning immersion program meticulously designed to bridge the gap between classroom theory and industry reality. This journey took them to the epicenter of the Philippine tourism landscape, featuring pivotal visits to Department of Tourism Philippines and the Philippine Airlines Museum. By engaging with these cornerstone institutions, students gained a deeper appreciation for the rich history and strategic governance that drive the nation’s travel sector, grounding their academic studies in the heritage and policy that define our islands.

Exposure to the core pillars of global hospitality was central to the mission. Students participated in specialized seminars and earned credentials at premier venues, including the PTC Aviation Training Center, MIHCA, Belmont Hotel Manila, and Sheraton Hotel Manila. These sessions provided a high-definition look at the operational excellence required in the hotel, cruise, and airline industries. From mastering service standards to witnessing technical aviation training, the experience offered a firsthand look at the precision and passion necessary to succeed in a competitive global market.

This immersion serves as a vital foundation, exposing our students to the authentic demands and rewards of their chosen career paths as early as their first year. By witnessing the "realities of their dreams" through direct interaction with industry leaders and world-class facilities, these future tourism professionals are now equipped with the perspective and motivation needed to excel. This program is more than just an educational trip; it is a transformative first step in turning student aspirations into a professional legacy.

In a world full of pressure, deadlines, and expectations, we are often focused on meeting demands and overcoming challenges—but who reminds us to pause and take care of our own well-being?

Last April 15, 2026, this Wellness Wednesday became a meaningful space for us to breathe, reflect, and regain our sense of calm. Through insightful discussions on stress management and handling pressure, we were reminded that staying grounded and composed is a strength we can all develop.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mrs. Alene J. Tan for sharing her wisdom with such grace and depth. Her inspiring words and valuable insights encouraged us to manage stress with clarity, embrace calmness, and face life’s pressures with resilience and confidence.

𝗕𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝘅𝘁𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸: 𝗔 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆

Stepping into Tapas and Toma in Mandurriao, Iloilo City, BSTM 2nd-year students embarked on a sensory journey that transcended the typical dining experience. On April 15, 2026, as part of their Philippine Gastronomical Tourism course, these aspiring tourism professionals traded their textbooks for tasting spoons to explore the deep-rooted connections between history and the plate. This core subject is about more than just identifying ingredients; it focuses on understanding food as a living cultural heritage and a primary driver for modern travel destinations.

The highlight of the visit was La Mesa Nocturna, a meticulously crafted 7-course Filipino-Spanish degustation led by the expertise of Chef EJ and Chef Ivan. As the only dedicated degustation experience currently offered in Iloilo, it provided a rare, front-row seat to culinary innovation. From the first bite to the final course, the students witnessed how technical precision and storytelling can transform a simple meal into a high-value tourism asset.

Ultimately, this "food crawl" was far more than an excursion. By engaging with the chefs and deconstructing each dish, the students learned that a degustation is an intentional dialogue between the producer, the cook, and the consumer. They walked away with a profound realization: in the world of tourism, the table is a stage where heritage is preserved. The La Mesa Nocturna experience stands as a gold standard for how local flavors can be showcased to the world.
