GILAS, LILACS! 💜

Students from the Bachelor of Arts in Literary and Cultural Studies (BALCS) program represented MSU-IIT at the Linguistics Society of the Philippines International Conference (LSPIC) 2026, held at West Visayas State University (WVSU), in Iloilo City, from April 23 to 25.

The annual conference, organized by the Linguistics Society of the Philippines (LSP), brings together researchers to discuss current trends and challenges in the field.

The BALCS delegation, with guidance from their former instructor, Assoc. Prof. Lourd Greggory Crisol, shared their findings on diverse themes, including q***r pop culture semiotics, digital fandom activism, and the integration of Filipino values in modern advertising, topics that align with the core pillars of the BALCS curriculum.

The student-researchers included:

By presenting at LSPIC, these students had the opportunity to engage with fellow scholars and linguists from the Philippines and abroad. Their participation also highlights the English Department’s commitment to research and the practical application of linguistic, literary, and cultural studies.

MSU-IIT’s English Department is joining an 𝙄𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧𝙣𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙋𝙞𝙩𝙘𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝘾𝙤𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 with students from Malaysia and Indonesia, and is calling out for participants that would like to join this upcoming activity.

For this, you first must attend a webinar for an orientation of the guidelines in the event. Each interested student shall, after reading the guidelines, submit their first video to the English Department for an initial screening. Those shortlisted shall advance to the next round of the competition.

This day not only marks the end of the “Holy Week” but most significantly, it is the day of celebrating a new beginning. A beginning that is full of 𝗵𝗼𝗽𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗲 as we reflect on the journey of Jesus Christ towards humanity’s salvation.
