Editorial staff members of The Ledger Publication conducted their first-ever internal journalism training titled “Journal to Journalism” at the College of Business (COB) Conference Room, Aguirre Hall, University of San Agustin, on April 11.

With the theme “Honing Skills for Truthful and Responsible Storytelling,” the whole-day training aimed to equip staff writers, editors, and creatives with essential skills in news writing, editorial writing, publication material design, layouting, and photojournalism.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Marivis A. Gangoso, Dean of COB, emphasized that student journalists must not only report with truth and responsibility but also anchor their work on Augustinian values: unitas (unity), caritas (charity), and veritas (truth).

The training featured three speakers who shared their expertise in different fields of campus journalism.

Columnist and educator, Engr. Herman M. Lagon led the morning session on the basics of news writing and column/editorial writing.

In the afternoon, Fitz Ethan Daut, Art and Design Director of the USA Publications, discussed publication material-making and tabloid layout.

This was followed by Alessa Moreno, Photography Director of the USA Publications, who conducted a session on photojournalism.

As the days slip quietly into memory, the sun rises and sets with unyielding rhythm. I pause, wondering what will tomorrow bring?

Seasons turn. Spring blossoms, Summer burns, Autumn fades, Winter stills. Each cycle marks the passage of time, relentless in its march. Dynasties once rose in grandeur, ruled with power, and fell into silence. Yet time, patient and impartial, erodes their legacy until only fragments remain. Time is constant. It does not falter, does not rest, does not bend to plead or protest. In a single blink, what seemed eternal reveals its fragility. Iron rusts, stone crumbles, faces age. What was once vibrant becomes shadow, and what was once certain dissolves into change. And still, time endures. It is the quiet witness, the eternal sculptor, the one truth that binds all beginnings and endings.

In every field, time is indispensable. It chronicles our past, offering lessons etched in memory, while hinting at the possibilities of our future. In science, it is the measure that determines whether an experiment succeeds or fails. In economics, it is used to deal with payables, interest, and values of assets. Across disciplines such as medical, art, business, and beyond, time is the silent axis that anchors progress. It is not merely a tool, but the essential element that gives meaning to every problem.

Time is effortless, yet inexhaustible. It flows without pause, abundant beyond measure, and untouched by human command. It is a treasure no wealth can purchase, a possession no hand can hold, and a force no will can bend. It surrounds us in silence, guiding the rise and fall of civilizations, the success of experiments, the healing of wounds, and the fading memories. We live within its embrace, yet we can never fully comprehend its nature. Time may unlock the promise of our future, offering hope and renewal, or it may mark the quiet end of all things, reminding us of our limits. It is both a gift and reckoning, both companion and adversary.

Above all, time remains the greatest mystery, one whose answer lies only within itself, waiting patiently for us to discover, even as it continues its eternal march.

Beneath the summer sun we tread,
Palms raised high, soft prayers said,
Through quiet streets, the faithful go,
Bearing burdens only they know.
A heavier cross than any play
Lies in hunger, in work, in pay,
In mothers’ eyes and children’s sleep,
In debts that grow and dreams too deep.

Storms take homes and rivers rise,
Yet life persists beneath gray skies,
Fishermen row and vendors pray,
Faith and toil mark every day.

On Maundy Thursday, hearts recall
The love that reaches, bearing all,
In acts of kindness, bread and care,
Christ walks with those in deep despair.

On Good Friday, doubts appear,
“Lord, how long?” we whisper near,
In every loss, in every fear,
Yet hope still flickers, soft, sincere.

Then comes the dawn, the stone rolls free,
A quiet light for you and me,
Not grand or loud, but gently near,
Rising in hearts despite the tear.

In this land of sun and rain,
Our crosses bear both grief and gain,
Each act of love, each prayer we keep,
Is soil where resurrection sleeps.

And so we walk through every day,
With faith as lamp, and hope as way,
Knowing that, through toil and strife,
Christ rises still in every life.

Today, the nation remembers.

Araw ng Kagitingan—the Day of Valor—is more than history. It is a celebration of courage, sacrifice, and the unyielding spirit that shaped the Philippines.

Bravery is never forgotten.
Courage shines brightest in the darkest hours.
Every Filipino who stands, fights, and rises carries the spirit of a nation.

We honor the heroes of the past,
and the everyday heroes of today those who work, strive, and protect the promise of a better tomorrow.

Valor lives on.
In them.
In us. 🇵🇭

07/04/2026

World Health Day is observed every April 7. It is not merely a symbolic occasion but a deliberate reminder by the World Health Organization to compel societies, governments, and individuals alike to pause and reflect on the state of human well‑being, and recognizing that health is the indispensable foundation upon which every other pursuit whether personal ambition, economic prosperity, or national progress ultimately rests.

Each year, the chosen theme draws attention to urgent issues such as equitable access to care, the mounting pressures of climate change, or the widening gaps in health systems, thereby transforming the day into a global platform for awareness, advocacy, and action. Its impact is felt in the way it helps communities to adopt preventive habits, encourages policymakers to invest in stronger healthcare infrastructures, and reminds us that health is our priceless asset and not a privilege reserved for the few but a universal right that sustains the vitality of societies.

Wealth, though often celebrated as the pinnacle of success, cannot substitute for the vitality that health provides, for money may purchase treatment or temporary comfort and pleasure, but it ultimately cannot restore lost years, mend neglected bodies, or rekindle the energy required to live a fulfilling and happy life. A society that prioritizes material gain while disregarding health risks building prosperity that is hollow, fragile, and ultimately unsustainable. To be mindful of our health is therefore not only a personal responsibility but also a civic obligation, because the strength of a nation is measured not by the size of its economy but by the resilience, productivity, and wellness of its citizens.

World Health Day insists that we recalibrate our priorities, reminding us that health must come first and wealth or other duties second, for without the former, the latter is little more than an illusion of success, and a heavy luggage for our tomorrow.

BLOOMING OPPORTUNITIES: KOMERSYANTES BRING FINANCIAL LITERACY TO LIFE

Students from Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) Financial Management class 4-A of the College of Business (COB), in collaboration with Barangay Tanza, Timawa Zone 2, Iloilo City Proper, successfully launched their outreach program titled 'Blooming Opportunities: Learning Investment, Business, & Fuzzy Wire Flower Crafting.'

The initiative of their outreach program went beyond lectures. Through this event, they were able to blend financial literacy with creative crafting, since participants not only learned practical insights about how to save, invest, and start small businesses, but also enjoyed hands-on flower-making activities that showed how simple skills can bloom into income opportunities.

The event emphasized that learning can be fun, engaging, and deeply connected to community growth and another form of income through hobbies.

Class president Sheila Mae Bañares shared that the program was not just a requirement but a heartfelt effort to give back.

“I felt really happy when I saw the participants smiling and enjoying the activities, especially during the crafting part. Seeing them proud of what they created made me realize that our efforts were worth it,” she reflected, adding those simple moments reminded her how powerful small acts can be.

For Bañares, the joy in the faces of the participants was a solid proof that knowledge and creativity when combined, can bring hope in a community.

For the organizers, the program was both fulfilling and humbling. It taught lessons in patience, teamwork, and responsibility, while strengthening bonds with the community.

Today, we recognize the remarkable spirit of student-athletes who masters the ultimate balance between studies and playing in a professional team. From early-morning practices to late-night study sessions, these dedicated and striving individuals prove that success is built on the discipline that they learned on both aspects.

National Student-Athlete Day honors the resilience, passion, and excellence of those who excels in two demanding worlds simultaneously—as a student and as an athlete.

We applaud your strong and desirable commitment to excellence in both academics and sports as you pave the way for a brighter future.
