Saint Louis College (SLC) College Information and Marketing Office (CIMO) Head, Ms. Viviene Aisha Gugol-Baker, successfully completed the two-week CommTECH Camp Highlight 2026 Stream 1: Creative Design, held from July 20 to 31, 2026, in Surabaya, Indonesia. Her participation was made possible through the international mobility initiatives of the SLC Global Affairs Office (GAO).

Hosted by the Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS), this innovative program provided an immersive deep dive into creative design and visual communication. Utilizing a Project-Based Learning (PbL) approach under the theme "Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge," the 12-day camp empowered participants through interactive workshops, seminars, and hands-on collaborative activities focused on design thinking, user-centered design, digital media, and sustainable design practices.

Saint Louis College of San Fernando, La Union (SLC-SFLU) continues to strengthen its internationalization efforts as Ms. Viviene Aisha Gugol-Baker, Head of the College Information and Marketing Office (CIMO), participates in the CommTECH Highlight 2026 – Creative Design hosted by Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember (ITS) in Surabaya, Indonesia from July 20 to 31, 2026.

This international mobility program brings together university students, academics, and professionals from various countries to explore innovative approaches to addressing societal challenges through collaboration, technology, and intercultural learning. Gugol-Baker's participation forms part of the College's continuing commitment to developing globally competent personnel who can bring international perspectives and best practices into institutional communication and engagement.

Carrying the theme "Solving Local Problems with Global Knowledge," CommTECH Highlight 2026 promotes the exchange of ideas among participants while showcasing how technology and innovation can be harnessed to create sustainable solutions for communities. The program also serves as a platform for building international networks and fostering future academic and professional collaborations.

As a participant in the Creative Design stream, Ms. Baker will take part in workshops, seminars, and experiential learning sessions focusing on design thinking, user-centered design, digital media, and sustainable design practices. The specialized track introduces participants to ITS' research and expertise in creative design and visual communication, equipping them with practical knowledge that can be translated into their respective institutions.
Beyond the academic sessions, CommTECH offers an immersive cultural experience through visits to government and non-government organizations, community engagement activities, Indonesian language classes, traditional music and dance workshops, educational tours, and opportunities to experience Indonesia's rich cultural heritage and cuisine.

Hosted annually by ITS, CommTECH Camp is designed to deepen participants' understanding of community and global issues while encouraging meaningful intercultural dialogue and collaboration. Through participation in internationally recognized programs such as CommTECH, SLC-SFLU continues to advance its internationalization agenda by empowering its personnel with global competencies that enrich institutional practice and strengthen the College's engagement with the international academic community.

Pero bago ang rampa, here’s a quick fun fact: Did you know na hindi pala talaga 'toga' ang formal name nito? It’s actually called a graduation gown or academic gown na nag-originate pa noong Medieval Europe!

𝗦𝗟𝗖-𝗦𝗙𝗟𝗨, 𝗣𝗜𝗔 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝟭 𝗶𝗻𝗸 𝗵𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗢𝗨 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗼𝗿𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘆

In a historic first for both institutions, Saint Louis College (SLC) and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 1 officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) today at the SLC Conference Room. This landmark collaboration makes SLC the first-ever academic partner of PIA Region 1 on a joint commitment to institutional capacity building with a core focus on strategic communication and media and information literacy.

The mutually beneficial partnership outlines several key initiatives aimed at institutional growth and youth empowerment. Under the agreement, PIA Region 1 will provide elite training and technical expertise to equip SLC’s communication personnel in refining the school's institutional communication frameworks.

Furthermore, both organizations will launch proactive Media and Information Literacy (MIL) programs designed specifically for Louisian students. These student-centered initiatives aim to equip the youth with critical thinking skills, champion responsible digital citizenship, and actively combat the spread of misinformation. In return, SLC will open its communication platforms and facilities to support PIA's national public service campaigns, providing the agency with a direct academic platform to engage and educate the community.

The historic signing was witnessed by the top officials of both organizations. The PIA Region 1 delegation was led by Regional Director Ms. Jennylyne C. Role and Assistant Regional Director Ms. April M. Bravo.

Representing Saint Louis College was the top Management Council, headed by College President Rev. Fr. Roderick G. Villamar, CICM, PhD. They were joined by Global Affairs Office Director Dr. Leo Esteene L. Galap, CIMO Head Ms. Viviene Aisha Gugol-Baker, Marketing Supervisor Mr. Monte Carlo B. Zuniega, and Media Assistant Ms. Beatrize V. Marquez, alongside institutional representatives Ms. Zenaida M. Miranda, The Louisian Torch School Paper Adviser, and Mr. John Ken Francisco, Head of the Religious Education Department in the Basic Education Schools.

Spearheaded by CIMO and facilitated through the Global Affairs Office, this initiative aligns with SLC's core mission as a Catholic educational institution. By building a robust communication framework, the partnership ensures that the Louisian community remains at the forefront of promoting truth, critical thinking, and impactful service to form intellectually and morally upright individuals.
