The UPLB PHLO Division welcomes its new Head, Asst. Prof. Nikko Parcon Leyretana, PhD.

Asst. Prof. Leyretana is a faculty member of the PHLO Division at the UPLB Department of Humanities. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy in Philosophy and Master in Philosophical Research degrees from De La Salle University Manila. His research interests lie within the areas of Philosophy of God and Philosophy of Religion. Prior to his appointment as head of the PHLO Division, he served as its Officer-in-Charge (OIC) for Second Semester of Academic Year 2025 - 2026. The division wishes Asst. Prof. Leyretana the best in his new role and looks forward to strengthening the division's programs as well as reaching greater milestones.

The division also expresses its gratitude to Assoc. Prof. Rizalino Noble Malabed, PhD, for his service and guidance as Head for First Semester of Academic Year 2025 - 2026. Under Assoc. Prof. Malabed's leadership, efforts to put up a Master of Arts in Philosophy by Research Program were initiated.

𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟕, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 | 𝟓:𝟎𝟎 - 𝟕:𝟎𝟎 𝐏𝐌 | 𝐂𝐀𝐒 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐱 𝟐

This forum is a class activity for the Ethics 1 sections handled by Wilrich Jeffrey Nieto, in partnership with Kalikasan People's Network for the Environment – Southern Tagalog (KALIKASAN PNE–ST), Advocates of Science and Technology for the People – ST (AGHAM ST), and All UP Academic Employees Union – UPLB Chapter (AUPAEU–UPLB). However, this activity is meant not only for students but for all UPLB constituents and members of the wider society. It introduces participants to concrete ethical questions arising from contemporary personal, interpersonal, social, economic, political, technological, and ecological realities.

Rather than approaching ethical inquiry solely through abstract cases, the forum brings students, educators, and community members into conversation, with the help of resource persons whose work and experience offer concrete perspectives on the issues under discussion. The sessions provide an opportunity for participants to identify competing values and interests, examine assumptions, consider responsibilities and consequences, and reflect on different conceptions of human and social flourishing.

The forum will consist of three parallel sessions:

Cheers to the PHLO Division faculty members on their various engagements!

Lec. Capacio successfully defended her MA Thesis Proposal.

Asst. Prof. Abog presented two papers at the 2026 Conference on Global Perspectives on Public Philosophy and the 2026 Australasian Association of Philosophy Conference, respectively.

Assoc. Prof. Malabed and Asst. Prof. Espuelas presented their respective papers at the 2026 Philosophical Association of the Philippines Annual International Conference.

Asst. Prof. Salvacion presented his co-authored paper at the John Paul II International Conference. He also served as a resource speaker for the St. Peter's College Seminary's Lectio Brevis and the 2nd CHARTS-Philippines (Convention of History, Arts, Religion, and Tradition Scholars of the Philippines) International Conference, respectively. He was also appointed as one of the Regional Representatives of CHARTS-Philippines for CALABARZON (2026-2027).

Asst. Prof. Pugal presented a poster and paper at the Asian Philosophy of Science Association (APSA) Conference 2026.

Big congratulations to Assoc. Prof. Cleofas on being the Guest Editor for Philosophy East and West, Volume 76, No. 3 (Filipino Philosophy Special Issue), published by the University of Hawai'i Press. Included in this special issue are her two new papers: "Introduction to Special Feature on Filipino Philosophy" and "An Account of Justice as a Virtue from Katarúngan."
