Community Development students of Bukidnon State University took part in the SIGAW MindaNOW program held yesterday at the BukSU Auditorium, bringing together students, government representatives, and stakeholders for an engaging discussion on Philippine politics, environmental protection, youth involvement, mineral development, and good governance.
The program was hosted by the Office of the Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns, in partnership with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Bukidnon State University (BukSU), and the City Government of Malaybalay.
The program featured a series of talks that provided participants with different perspectives on issues affecting communities and the country:
๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐ง๐ญ๐จ๐ง๐ข๐จ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ฌ, Presidential Adviser for Mindanao Concerns, opened the discussions with a Youth Conversation on Philippine Politics, encouraging young people to become more aware and engaged in political and social issues.
๐๐ฌ. ๐๐ก๐๐ซ๐ฅ๐ฒ๐ง ๐๐๐ฆ๐จ๐, Head of the Capacity, Building, and Training Section, shared insights on the importance of strengthening the knowledge, skills, and capabilities of young people as active members of society.
The environmental discussion was led by ๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ฒ. ๐๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐ ๐๐ณ๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ ๐. ๐๐๐๐๐ฅ๐ข๐ง-๐๐๐๐ฎ๐ฌ of DENR-PENRO Misamis Oriental through โYouth as Future Leaders in Environmental Protection and Resource Conservation.โ The discussion highlighted the role of the youth in environmental protection and introduced key environmental laws, including R.A. 8749 (Clean Air Act), R.A. 9275 (Clean Water Act), and R.A. 9003 (Ecological Solid Waste Management Act).
๐๐ง๐ ๐ซ. ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐ณ๐ then discussed โMinerals Development Towards a Progressive Philippinesโ providing participants with a perspective on mineral resources and their role in national development.
Meanwhile, ๐๐จ๐ง. ๐๐๐ฒ๐จ๐ซ ๐๐๐ซ๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐๐ซ๐๐ง tackled the issue of corruption, highlighting the importance of integrity, accountability, and responsible leadership in public service.
For Community Development students, SIGAW MindaNOW was more than an academic gathering. It was an opportunity to listen, learn, and engage with real issues that shape communities and society. The discussions reinforced the importance of informed youth participation, environmental responsibility, and ethical leadership in building responsive and empowered communities.
