The Department of Arts and Communication recently conducted a two-day Curricular Review Workshop on December 15–16, 2025. The workshop aimed to assess the strengths and identify gaps in the current curricula of the BA Organizational Communication and BA Philippine Arts programs. Insights generated from the discussions will inform necessary revisions and guide future improvements to DAC’s academic offerings.

On Day 1, data from stakeholders’ consultations were presented, followed by small-group discussions among the program committees in the afternoon. These breakout session continued into the morning of Day 2 and concluded with the presentation of proposed curricular changes from both program committees.

Through this initiative, and in line with UN , DAC reaffirms its commitment to continuously enhancing program quality and ensuring that the programs' curricula remain relevant, responsive, and student-centered.

READ: UP MANILA OFFICIAL STATEMENT ON THE BOMB THREAT

The University of the Philippines Manila condemns in the strongest terms the bomb threat directed at our campus. Such actions are reprehensible and disrupt the meaningful work our community does in education, research, and public service.

We ask everyone to stay vigilant and to rely only on official updates from the university.

From the Department Chair:

Face-to-face classes at CAS are suspended effective 12:00 PM today. Alternative class modalities may be allowed but with due consideration given to students who may still be in transit.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS!

The Department of Arts and Communication is accepting submissions for PUWEDE: A Literary Anthology about and for People with Disability.

The Filipino word “puwede” means “possible” or “it can be done.” This anthology seeks to reclaim and transform the narrative often associated with the word “hindi puwede” (“cannot”), which has long been tied to the barriers- that persons with disabilities (PWDs) face.

Too often, PWDs are marginalized or defined solely by their disabilities, rather than by their talents, aspirations, and contributions.

Through this project, the Department of Arts and Communication (DAC) at the University of the Philippines Manila aims to create a platform where PWDs and allies can share stories, poems, and essays that challenge stereotypes, highlight resilience, and affirm the dignity, creativity, and leadership of PWDs.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

Submission may be in the form of:
One (1) short story (maximum 5,000 words)
A collection of up to three (3) poems
One (1) essay or creative nonfiction piece (maximum 5,000 words)

Works may be written in English or Filipino. Submissions in regional languages are welcome, provided they are accompanied by an English translation.

All manuscripts should be in DOCX format, using Times New Roman, size 12.

Please include a short biographical note (maximum 100 words) with your submission.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

All submissions will undergo a double-blind review process to ensure fairness.

Deadline for submissions: December 31, 2025

Notifications of acceptance: February 15, 2026

Accepted works will be published in the in-house journal of the Department of Arts and Communication. The DAC may also submit the anthology to a reputable academic publishing house for wider dissemination.

While contributors will not receive monetary compensation, each will receive a complimentary copy of the anthology as recognition of their contribution.

Contributors will retain copyright of their work.

Submit your submissions and biographical note to: [email protected]
