St. Josephโ€™s College of Quezon City was founded 75 years ago as St. Josephโ€™s Academy by Dutch Franciscan Sisters.

Situated along Espaรฑa Extension, the school admitted its first primary school pupils in 1932 and drew children from the rapidly growing communities of New Manila, Kamuning and San Juan. Under the leadership of its first school directress, Mother Magdala Verhuizen, the academy opened the high school department the following year. During the Japanese occupation, the school was closed down, the Dutch sisters interned in Los Baรฑos, and the buildings were used as a mini-military hospital by the Japanese army and later by the US military. SJA officially became St. Joseph โ€™s College of Quezon City in 1948 with the opening of the college department which offered programs in education, liberal arts, secretarial science, and music. The St. Josephโ€™s College of Quezon City community mourns the passing of Mr. Julius Vernie B. Vier, who served as Officer of the Office of Student Affairs and Discipline of the College Department.

We remember with gratitude his service to the School and the role he played in supporting student formation and fostering a community grounded in responsibility, discipline, and care. His contributions to SJCQC and the lives he touched will remain part of the institutionโ€™s story.

Our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and colleagues.

May the Lord grant him eternal rest, and may perpetual light shine upon him. He will be remembered with gratitude and respect.

SJCQC employees joined the St. Francis of Assisi Lecture Series (SFALS) on October 9, featuring Rev. Fr. Cristino R. Pine, OFM, with the theme โ€œSt. Francisโ€™ Relevance to the Climate Crisis.โ€

The lecture invited us to rediscover the enduring wisdom of St. Francis and reflect on our shared responsibility to care for creation amid todayโ€™s ecological challenges.

The event also featured the launch of Fr. Crisโ€™s book, Word of Redemption for an Earth in Travail.

๐ŸŒŽ The call is clear: let us move beyond reflection and take meaningful action. Through our daily choices, responsible use of resources, and collective efforts to protect the environment, may we live out our Franciscan commitment to care for our common home.

Today, the whole Franciscan Family celebrates the Solemnity of Our Seraphic Father, Saint Francis of Assisi, whose life continues to inspire the Church to follow Christ in humility, simplicity, peace, and loving care for all creation.

This yearโ€™s celebration is made even more meaningful as we commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Transitus of Saint Francisโ€”his passage from this earthly life into eternal life. His final surrender reminds us that a life completely given to God becomes a lasting witness of hope, fraternity, and peace.

May Saint Francis inspire us to recognize every person as a brother or sister, to care faithfully for our Common Home, to become instruments of reconciliation, and to proclaim the Gospel not only through our words but, above all, through the witness of our lives.
