The Eta Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega Fraternity grieves the loss of Brother Enrico “Koreeks” Lainez ‘70A, who passed away on 24 February 2021 at the age of 69.

Always one of the brightest minds, Brod Koreeks was licensed to practice law not only in the Philippines, but also in the United States. Such excellence also sent him to a position of leadership in industry, becoming the Vice President for Marketing for RISE Manpower Services.

A man of Leadership, Friendship, and Service through and through, moreover, Brod Koreeks never hesitated to lend the Fraternity his talents. In 1972, he co-organized the Gamma Epsilon Chapter of the Alpha Phi Omega International Collegiate Service Fraternity in De La Salle University.

For many friends, especially to his Alpha Phi Omega brothers and sisters, Brod Koreeks was a leader and true friend in need. He was a key figure who kept the Fraternity strong and growing, wherever he may be. He served as legal adviser to the APO Western Batangas Alumni Association, and went on to serve in the same capacity for the Fraternity nationwide as Presidential Assistant for Special Concerns from 2009 to 2013. He also led the APO Greater Los Angeles (GLA) Alumni Association as their President in 1992. Such contributions made him worthy of the status of Life Member and recipient of the Dr. Librado I. Ureta Award from the APO GLA Alumni Association.

He was a warm and reassuring presence among brothers and sisters everywhere, ever active as a member his entire life, whether in the Philippines, at the UP APO Alumni Association, or in the United States, with the APO-Eta Alumni Association of North America.

Thank you for your life of Service, Brod Koreeks. May we always be.

ETA at 68: A STRONG CIRCLE SURMOUNTING CHALLENGES

68 years ago, Eliseo ‘Dad’ Clamor organized the first Alpha Phi Omega chapter in Quezon City, and the first in the whole University of the Philippines System. A year later, UP Diliman was designated as the Eta Chapter of Alpha Phi Omega in the Philippines.

The Eta Chapter exemplifies the ideals and principles of the Fraternity, and endeavors to uphold the standards of excellence. In a tradition unbroken for almost seven decades, brothers of the Eta Chapter continue to take leadership roles, form friendships, and serve the University, various communities, and the country.

Over the years, brothers have thrived in their various professions and vocations, showing the mark of Etan excellence in the arts, across all industries, in the service sector, in public service, and most importantly, in providing organized services to communities across the country. This is notwithstanding, and often even inspired by, the challenges we have time and time again faced as a nation--social unrest, calamities, and other unexpected adversities.

The past year, marked by a volcanic eruption, a pandemic, and damaging typhoons has been no different. Brothers have risen to the occasion, providing aid to our fellow Filipinos in the Southern Tagalog region, our health workers who faced shortages in protection and nourishment in the first months of the pandemic, and communities affected by the typhoons in the late year.

As we weather the coming stages of the pandemic and the challenges ahead, we take stock in the strong circle that has been forged through friendship and struggle, and build upon the past toward a new tomorrow.
