On the Use of Greek Chapter Names within Alpha Kappa Rho

In the realm of Greek fraternities, Alpha Kappa Rho stands among those that have never adopted the use of Greek chapter names.

The following are the reasons why such practice is deemed inappropriate within our Fraternity:

* It does not form part of the history, tradition, or founding principles of Alpha Kappa Rho.
* If such a system had existed from the beginning, the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Chapter would have been recognised as the Alpha (1st) Chapter since its establishment.
* The use of Greek letters would necessitate a systematic chapter roster ranging from Alpha to Omega and beyond, which has never been observed within our organisation.
* This practice breeds confusion and lacks proper regulation, resulting in multiple chapters bearing identical designations — an issue that continues to proliferate.
* The mere aesthetic appeal of such naming conventions in other fraternities should not serve as justification for imitation. Those organisations maintain a structured system that supports such use; ours does not. Furthermore, they employ it as a mechanism to verify the legitimacy of their members.

Our Fraternity faces several internal challenges. Unfortunately, it appears that either the leadership remains unaware of these concerns or lacks the capacity to institute and enforce the necessary reforms to address them.

Should hazing really be made public?

To those who like posting videos on TikTok or any other social media platform showing yourselves conducting hazing, exchange paddle, or disciplinary actions, think carefully first. You might not realise the serious charges they’ll face under the Anti-Hazing Law.

You’re only tarnishing the Brotherhood’s reputation even more with your actions.

FYI: ❗️❗️❗️

The anti-hazing law in the Philippines is Republic Act No. 11053 (Anti-Hazing Act of 2018), which amended the original Republic Act No. 8049. The law prohibits all forms of hazing, which is defined as any act that causes physical or psychological harm during initiation rites. It applies to various organizations, including fraternities, sororities, and community groups, and imposes stricter penalties, including harsher punishments for those involved and making schools liable if they fail to prevent hazing.

During the 1990s era, members were respectable, disciplined, and well-educated—many were professionals. Unlike today, it seems that anyone can easily become a member, as if having more members automatically make things better.

With that kind of membership, we can no longer expect to produce future leaders for the government and the community.

Quality over quantity should always be upheld to restore the former standards of the brotherhood, as the image of AKP is being severely tarnished.
