DLSU Management and Organization Department GSB established a leadership role in Philippine management education when it required business ethics courses for its DBA (1981) and MBA (1998) students.

Bridging Faith and Management Practice

The Management and Organization Department (MOD) is a synergy of two significant historic streams in business education in De La Salle University. The first stream emerged from the former Graduate School of Business which first offered the Master of Business Administration Program in 1960 and the Doctor of Management Program in 1981 (which was later renamed as the Doctor of Business Administration). The GSB became one of the country’s leading business schools in the country by providing relevant professional and scholarly business education characterized by a strong practitioner orientation to working managers and employees, entrepreneurs and academics. It made itself more accessible to working professionals by establishing extension campuses near the business districts in La Salle Green Hills in Mandaluyong (1996) and in RCBC Plaza in Makati (2001). This was followed through with Sustainable Business in the DBA Program in 2003 and Family and Work-life Harmony and Human Rights, Social Responsibility and & Sustainable Development in the MBA Program in 2004. The GSB formally joined the international community of business schools committed to educating socially responsible managers when it signed up for the United Nations Principles for Responsible Management Education in 2009. The second stream emerged from the former Business Management Department and its BS in Applied Corporate Management Program. Established in 1997, the program distinguished itself through its rigorous selection process for students and the way it provided a unique sandwich curriculum, which gives undergraduate business students broad exposure to the corporate environment through a sequence of three internships. The program also strongly encourages its students to take Corporate Social Responsibility. Under the new MOD, the concern for industry relevance -- through internships at the undergraduate level and practitioner-oriented programs at the graduate level -- plus the emphasis on socially responsible management provides a strong framework for management education, combining the strengths of the programs from the above two streams and moving the Lasallian mission in business leadership more vigorously.

ABSTRACT:

This action research documents the three-cycle journey to internationalize the Applied Corporate Management (ACM) Program at the Ramon V. del Rosario College of Business, De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines. The first cycle focused on establishing a formal partnership with Pforzheim University in Germany and on producing a proposal for a dual-degree program and a student exchange program as an interim step toward full internationalization. The second cycle navigated the strict regulatory requirements of the CHED memorandum on exchange programs with internships and pivoted to supporting student exchanges through the Office of the Vice President for External Relations and Internationalization's existing network. As a result, a number of ACM students successfully completed exchange programs in Asia, Europe, and Australia, and an informal Internationalization Committee and Internationalization Coordinator positions were established within the ACM Program. The third cycle focused on developing the DMO Internationalization Plan, a formal, four-component strategic document covering student mobility, collaborative online international learning, participation in PRME activities, and exposure to foreign professors and researchers. The plan was formally approved by both the ACM Committee and the full-time faculty of the Department of Management and Organization. The study is grounded in the Network Theory of Internationalization (Munusamy & Hashim, 2020), and the final emergent framework demonstrates that internationalization in a Philippine higher education institution does not activate all seven networking elements at once; it builds them one cycle at a time, starting from Partnership and progressing toward Market Pe*******on. The four program components are the practical strategies through which the networking elements are operationalized. Sustainable internationalization requires both relational work and navigating institutional processes. The most important lesson of this research is that meaningful and lasting internationalization is not achieved through any single decisive action, but through a patient, iterative, and institutionally grounded process of building capacity one cycle at a time.
