General information
Through Ordinance No. 15, series of 2003, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina or PLMar, was established to provide quality and affordable tertiary education to the marginalized youth of Marikina City. From its humble beginnings of educating 1, 424 in 2003, we are now academically taking part in the lives of 8, 532 scholars that also include students from nearby cities. True to its mission of producing work-ready, career-focused, and community-oriented graduates honed through holistic and life-long learning, PLMar now consistently boasts of above National Passing Rates for Criminology, Nursing, and Teacher Education Board Exams. Additional programs have also been opened such as Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education, General Science, Social Studies, Special Education, Psychology, and Guidance and Counseling. Short programs were also opened such as Front Office Management, Food & Beverage, Baking and Commercial Cooking, Diploma in Public Management, 2-Year Associate in Criminology, and 1-Year Computer Hardware Servicing. These offerings are all in conjunction to the K-12 program implementation, covering both academic and tech-voc strands. Today, in consistence with the guiding slogan “Tunay na Kaunlaran, Tao Naman” of the present leadership headed by Mayor Del R. De Guzman, and with Karunungan, one of the 7-K flagship programs of his administration, PLMar, headed by the University President Dr. Carmelita L. Palabay, gears its programs towards attaining the vision of “Meeting global challenges producing disciplined and excellent leaders of good taste” who are proud of their roots and have mutual concern for the common good.
