Research and Innovation leaders from across the UP System gathered on September 22-23, 2026, for the 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗰𝗵, 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗲 (𝗥𝗖𝗪𝗜𝗖) meeting, hosted by UP Los Baños and led by the Vice Chancellor for Innovation and Enterprise Management Dr. Haerold Dean Z. Layaoen and Vice Chancellor for Research and Extension Dr. Nathaniel C. Bantayan. The meeting was held at the UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) and via Zoom.

The RCWIC also visited various research and innovation centers within the campus and attended UPLB’s Innovation Week 2026 at the UPLB Science and Technology (S&T) Park. Anchored on the theme “Harvesting Horizons: Philippine Innovation for Climate-Resilient and Inclusive Agri-Food Systems,” the event brought together youth- and startup-focused activities, including University Innovation Fellowship (UIF) showcases.

⚡ 𝐂𝐇𝐑𝐆-𝐞𝐝 𝐔𝐩!: 𝐀 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐈𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡

CHRG EV Technologies Inc., a startup born from research at the University of the Philippines Diliman, officially sealed its first-ever equity fundraising round on September 24, backed by Leave a Nest Group and IGNYSIA Holding. This makes CHRG the first university spin-off in the electric vehicle (EV) sector to receive this kind of investment, a milestone connecting Philippine deep tech research to the Japanese industrial ecosystem.

In his remarks, CHRG founder and CEO Leo Tayo emphasized the company’s strengthened commitment to promote green and sustainable mobility, adding that this investment is a challenge for them to further grow and reach more communities.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒖𝒍𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒚𝒐𝒖?
This investment fuels the expansion of EV charging infrastructure across the Philippines, including plans for an EV charging highway linking the country's islands, making electric mobility more accessible and reliable for everyday Filipino commuters, fleet operators, and communities beyond Metro Manila.
