The Philippine Genome Center Visayas, represented by Dr. Carla Lenore Calumpang (DOST-CIP Fellow for Omics) and Nadelene Faith Cartago (University Research Associate), joined Project CELLS Session 01 of Pangasinan State University (PSU) as invited speakers on April 24, 2026.

Held at the Research and Innovation Hub (RIH) in PSU Lingayen Campus and via Zoom, the session highlighted β€œBiotechniques in Molecular Biology as Foundational Lab and Research Skills.”

Participants were introduced to essential molecular biology techniques and explored opportunities in genomics and scientific research, helping guide their academic and career paths.

The event gathered over 100 undergraduate fisheries and science students and was organized in partnership with the Philippine Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Central Luzon Chapter.

Project CELLS (Curated and Empowered Lectures in the Life Sciences) is an academic initiative designed to enhance science learning among undergraduate students through guided, collaborative, and discussion-based sessions.

PGC Visayas welcomed a group of research partners for a courtesy visit and laboratory tour on April 24, 2026. The visit formed part of the second day of activities under the GIZ-supported project β€œCrabsolutely Zero: Promoting a Circular Model for Sustainable Valorization of Crustacean Waste,” implemented through the UP Visayas Foundation, Inc.

Representatives from GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft fΓΌr Internationale Zusammenarbeit), together with members of the project team and participants from the Department of Science and Technology Industrial Technology Development Institute (DOST-ITDI), took part in the activity. During the afternoon session, the group joined a tour of several key research facilities across UP Visayas.

As part of the tour, the group made a stop at the Philippine Genome Center Visayas laboratories, where they were introduced to the facility and its research initiatives. The group was guided through the laboratories, with PGC Visayas URA Nadelene Faith Cartago and SRA Lee Genesis Mabaquiao assisting the visitors and facilitating the walkthrough of the facility.

The visit gave participants a better understanding of the research environment at UP Visayas and how the university’s scientific capabilities support the broader goals of the CrabZero program.

Students from West Visayas State University (WVSU) recently conducted an educational visit to the Philippine Genome Center Visayas as part of their academic enrichment activities.

The visiting group, composed of Bachelor of Science in Biology students, organized the tour in line with their Developmental Biology course under the guidance of their instructor, Dr. Pastor Jones Denusta.

The visit aimed to provide students with firsthand exposure to laboratory practices and emerging scientific techniques relevant to their field.

The educational tour, held on April 24, 2026, highlighted WVSU’s commitment to experiential learning, allowing students to engage directly with research professionals and facilities. During the visit, PGC Visayas SRA Xemenes Lee Secondes, together with PGC Visayas DOST-CIP Fellows P*e Jee JareΓ±o (Omics Lab) and Christine Marie Florece (Bioinformatics Lab), assisted the group and guided them around the facilities.

Through this initiative, the students gained valuable insights that will contribute to their future careers in biology and scientific research.
