Look || The Department of Communication and Development Studies proudly recognizes the participation of Ms. Lynell M. Alejandro in the 11th Philippine Korean Studies Symposium at the Pilar Herrera Lecture Hall, UP Diliman on May 8, 2026 .

Ms. Alejandro presented her research titled, “New Hallyu Generation: Paracommunication between Filipino Fans and Virtual K-pop Idols,” which explores how Filipino fans build connections and engage with virtual K-pop idols in today’s highly mediated digital environment.

Her study examined the rise of CGI-based idols and how interactive media platforms shape fan experiences, social cues, and online relationships. Using the lenses of Media Are Social Actors (MASA) and paracommunication, the research highlights how fans perceive virtual idols as interactive social actors while also navigating the limitations and asymmetrical nature of digital fan interactions.

The presentation contributes to the growing discourse on fandom studies, emerging media, and the evolving landscape of the Korean Wave (Hallyu) in the Philippines.

Congratulations, Ma'am Lynell, for representing CLSU-DCDS and contributing meaningful insights to contemporary media and cultural studies!

The Master of Science in Development Communication (MSDC) program of Central Luzon State University (CLSU) has reached another milestone after being granted Level IV Re-Accredited Status by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines, Inc. (AACCUP).

This notable recognition affirms the program’s sustained commitment to academic excellence, robust quality assurance mechanisms, and adherence to high standards in graduate education. The Level IV Re-Accredited status signifies that the program consistently demonstrates excellence in instruction, research, and extension, supported by competent faculty, strong institutional linkages, and well-established systems comparable to leading higher education institutions.

With an impressive grand mean rating of 4.50, the MSDC program successfully met all accreditation requirements, including the submission of comprehensive documentation and compliance with mandatory recommendations.

This achievement highlights CLSU’s dedication to advancing development communication as a discipline. The MSDC program equips graduate students with advanced competencies in strategic communication, media and development, participatory communication, and research, preparing them to become effective communicators, development practitioners, and scholars capable of addressing complex societal issues in both local and global contexts.

[DCDS Extension Highlights] Faculty and Students Embark on Fieldwork for Policy Advocacy and Agri Narratives

The Department of Communication and Development Studies (DCDS), in collaboration with the University Extension Office, has kicked off its extension projects for 2026, bringing faculty and students together in meaningful fieldwork.

Students from the Social and Behavioral Change Communication and Multimedia courses joined the activity, gaining hands-on experience in development communication—from capturing community narratives to engaging with stakeholders. This is where classroom learning meets real-world practice.

This fieldwork is just one of a series of activities under the department’s extension projects, which include: Policy Advocacy to enhance the effective and sustainable uptake of CLSU technologies and Digital Agri Contents showcasing Farmer Success Narratives.

All these initiatives are conducted in support of the CLSU Techno Village Development Program—the university’s springboard for promoting impact and innovation in communities.

Kudos to our faculty and students for bridging knowledge with action!
